Medical Bills

A few years ago i was arrested for public intoxication (i threw up outside waiting for a taxi). A week prior to this i fell down some stairs and scraped my arm. The officer saw that my arm was scraped and took me to the hospital against my will and the nurse looked me over and said 'ok' and there was no "treatment". I asked her in front of the arresting officer "when does it look like this happened?" and she said "at least a few days ago". I was there against my will, they did nothing to 'treat me', and i have a statement from a medical professional saying that nothing happened to me at that time. I check my credit score just now and i see that i have a $900 medical bill reported to collections. What the fuck do i do?

just do it
you said yesterday
its tomorrow
just
do it

You call the collections company and tell them you are disputing it.

easy as that? they'll just let it go if i ask them to?

Ignore it.

I have like 3 medical bills against my name and my credit is fine.

Those fucks can go fuck themselves.

make the police department pay for it, sue em. get a free consultation about it first.

praise the lord for being born in the united states of america where you have the freedom to be charged $3,000 for an ambulance ride or in your case, $900 for a nurse to look at a scrape on your arm and decide it doesn't even need stitches.

That nurse was probably paid a total of $1.50 for the time she spent looking at your arm.

And people vote against Single-Payer healthcare...

It will go away in 7 years. Similar thing happened to me. Passed out in the back of an uber. Driver called an ambulance and i woke up with a $1400 bill. Dont know why they couldnt just chuck me in the lobby of my building to sleep it off but lesson learned. Thanks obama.

it was just scabbed over, the cop knew what he was doing when he forced me into the hospital against my will. He was fucking with me and i didn't realize until now. He was trying to punish me when he couldn't charge me for anything else. I did everything he asked me to do but i wouldn't speak a word to him. He knew that i was going to be billed for that trip thats why he was grinning when he handcuffed me to the fucking chair in that room. I guess he won.

gg cops

>Ignore it.

Never ignore a bill.

Lawyer here. Used to work with debt collection. The ignore crowd were our best customers because we could just pile on late fees and interest. Then they would shit their pants when we sent it to court and pay up.

Do this instead:
Just email them that you dispute it and ask for documentation. In most cases they will check back with the creditor. Whether or not they can prove anything, they won't be able to pile on late fees and interest until they document the claim.

Not sure if it's the same way in America and your particular state though.

All of mine were sub $500.

So I doubt they're gonna go to the trouble.

I'd rather not live in fear.

I respect you guys, but sometimes I think yall believe you have more power than you really do.

Claims need to be above a certain threshold before it makes sense to collect. Business was slow for us, so I would have fought tooth and nail for all of my shekels on any claim with a principal of $350+, especially if you added all of the late fees.

The threshold varies based on jurisdiction and collector, though, so I'm glad it worked out for you user.

Still, disputing is always the best course of action, because it stops the late fees and interest accumulation. Fags disputing was literally the most annoying thing about the job, because it meant a lot more work for less money and it slowed down the process considerably.

u mean you pay $130 a month and your dr visits are $20 a visit, specialists are $25 a visit, your $300 medication is subsidized to $5.50, and you get 2 pairs of glasses every year for $50?

ill agree dental benefits suck but healthcare is so fucking good right now i cant believe how good of a deal this shit is.

i alone have 4 different medications that I pay ~$50 a month for that probably would cost $1000 otherwise.

Literally in no state in America are insurance premiums that cheap for those kinds of benefits. Sounds like your employer is paying the other $400 of your insurance premium every month.

If you pay for insurance yourself it's more like
>$350 per month
>$50 to see a specialist
>only some drugs that have cheap generic versions are covered at $20 each
>everything else is out of pocket until you reach your $5000 deductible

You know that penalty is super easy to waive right?

Britbong here.
>all prescriptions fixed price of £6.50
>pay nothing for tests, consultations, etc
>exempt if unemployed or pensioner
>mfw I am exempt from all costs because lifelong medical condition
>shit is so cash

It's like burgerlanders enjoy paying for being sick.

ger-fag here,
we got free medical treatment.
man merica get your shitty social-system working.
I hope you dont need to pay shit.

You know if the government didn't take as much taxes, it would e fine.

If people would actually claim their rights as Americans and say "fck that", "fck this", and "fck you"; as per the Constitution. We'd be in a better place.

But no. Everyone wants everything handed to them. We live in a fucking capitalist country and that's not how any of this works.

Idiots.

Stfu dude. Cop was doing his job. Problem is the outrageous gouging of hospitals. You're the problem for not sticking it to the man. Your cop is a citizen just like you, getting paid $35k a year to deal with whinnying cunts such as yourself.

i don't get it how could you be charged for any service that you did not voluntarily agreed to receive? this is legally impossible.

>then they would shit their pants when we sent it to court and pay up

Are you serious? They'd actually pay? That's hysterical!

Not sure what country you're from, but that's not how things work here in the good ol U, S, of A!

If an account is in collections, the person probably doesn't have the money to pay it and probably has more accounts in collections than just that one. In other words, blood from a stone, my friend. I'll tell you a quick story...

>be me
>young and dumb
>making good money but spending good money as quickly as it comes in
>swiping the ol' credit card(s) like crazy
>paying them on time but it slowly catches up to me and I'm in way over my head
>fast forward a few years...
>they want their money
>they're calling me off the hook and shit
>$40,000+ in credit card debt alone
>I sit and wait
>the phone calls stop so I know they're sending it to legal
>yep here come the letters!
>got them where I want them
>retain my own attorney and immediately begin bankruptcy proceedings
>they never got a dime

Let's just say, I wasn't the one doing the pants-shitting...

Oh and mfw my credit score actually went UP after bankruptcy and is now back in the "average" range.

Oh and here's the kicker...

One credit card company I had put me on an initial repayment plan that I eventually reneged on, but they never sent me the terms of the agreement...

They had to return all that money to me (about $3,000).

>mfw I got that check in the mail

but no you are wrong the hospital was just doing their job just as the cop was doing his job by your logic you fucking idiot, there was nothing wrong with me he knew what he was doing, this was intentional because he didn't like me and couldn't charge me for anything else

how master

share your wisdom senpai

I believe you bro. Cops are dicks.

This is America, bro. I've made friends with a ton of attorneys over the years because I am genuinely interested in the law and love the idea of becoming an attorney myself (except I'm already happy as a teacher), so I'm always picking their brains and whatever.

Anyway, I basically already knew what my options were and knew that bankruptcy was probably my best bet. So I sat down with one of my lawyer friends one day and told him what was going on and that I needed help...

Help arrived in the form of a retainer and bankruptcy.

But my attorney not only helped me to quash all those outstanding debts. He gave me some good advice on how to quickly rebuild my credit. So that's what I did...

Seriously, if I could invest in attorneys, I would. Fucking ATNY stock ticker lol

I considered waiting until all the creditors and their lawyers actually filed the lawsuits against me just to make them burn a little more money on me in filing fees....y'know....just to be a vindictive little brat. But I was anxious to just get the debt discharged. And that's what I did...

Everyone talks about how terrible bankruptcy is, but it's not that bad. I mean, shit, is it on my record? Yeah. It'll be there for a few years more, too. But my credit score is already back to normal and I haven't suffered any real consequences as a result.

> he didn't like me

Top gen y kekory.

you don't understand bro, you weren't there. i promise you that i understand your sentiment and i would lean the same way but thats just not how it was.

Yeah cops are never dicks. They're all just honest, hard-working guys trying to scrape by. I'm sure they were genuinely concerned about that tiny scratch on OP's arm. God bless those brave men and women. Truly angels!

Are you catching the sarcasm? That's sarcasm.

If you're serious. Do me a favor and ask yourself why he'd single you out of all things he could have done with his time. I want you to think about how you're wrong and he's right.

Tldr; think from a different perspective

Ya kid fuck da police, they just tryin' to put us down. They don't know the struggle we in.

Come on kid.

read me here if you haven't already

...

Yeah, or y'know, maybe as with all professions this kid got the one ball-breaking dick-head cop who had the time to piss away on an obnoxious, publicly intoxicated kid...

You know...just exactly how OP described it.

You're the one arguing against that very real possibility.

You're leaving parts m9.

> I didn't speak a word to him
> Did everything he asked
> Forced me against my will

How can one know they're doing something against your will, when you don't inform them they're doing so?

the market can handle security and protection better then the monopoly of force government has. read murray rothbard to get a better understanding on how that might work but anyways here is a case where the new york police strike and stop doing their job and things actually improve.

he didn't ask me and i didn't know i was going to the hospital he just kidnapped me off the street in front of everyone. it was obvious that i didn't need fucking medical attention for a four inch scab on my arm, again he knew exactly what he was doing.

So did he take you to jail or arrest you for public intoxication?

both

>police stop working
>arrests plummet
THE CRIME PROBLEM SOLVED ITSELF

Are you serious? Maybe arrests arent a good measure of crime when the cops stop arresting people.
#blacklivesmatter #justiceforthatblackguy
#heagoodboywhodindunuffin

i'm sure he wanted to charge me for disturbing the peace, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, anything really but he couldn't because i wasn't doing anything wrong so he did the only other thing he could do.

the cops stooped doing their job and nothing happened is the point i'm making. the city did not collapse, people were not murdered in the streets, there was no looting, buildings did not explode. Government doesn't need to micromanage your live. You don't need an overseer to protect yourself. The market can work, just consider it as a possibility and learn about it. Its hard to imagine a different way of living with freedom but it can work and it would work better than what we have.

It's like talking to a wall.

So many inconsistencies.

sorry i wasn't saying what you wanted to hear

Seems pretty consistent to me.

I'm sure OP was probably a lot more drunk and obnoxious than even he is aware (come on, OP, you were drunk...)

And I'm sure that OP's speculation as to why the officer sent him to the hospital is probably a little bit off. (I don't think the cop sent OP to the hospital because he wanted OP to get stuck with a huge bill...)

But he's probably not too far off. The cop didn't give a shit about the scratch on his arm and wasn't concerned for OP's well being.

The cop probably figured a quick trip to the hospital would give OP time to sober up and would protect the officer from any accusations of police brutality. Which actually sounds reasonable but it's not entirely necessary.

I don't know. I wasn't there. But if I had to bet, that's probably how it went down.

i was obnoxious in the since that i didn't say anything, if you would want to think that way in order to make yourself more comfortable. He knew what he was doing. i know how it sounds but i wasn't really that drunk. he arrested me because he saw me barf after someone blew some clover cigerete smoke in my face not because i was obstructing the sidewalk, talking loudly (was silent the entire time), disturbing the peace, nothing. Otherwise he would have jumped in his boots at the opportunity to charge me with anything else. Again, i understand this sentiment about leaning towards this thinking that i was somehow deserving of what happened but that is just not the case.

>be nazi me
>slip in bath and hit knee that hard that it bleeds
>Go to hospital on saturday
>wait 30 minutes then it's my turn
>doc looks at my knee, says it's fine just take it easy for the next few weeks oh and here, take these bandages

Price:
0 Euronions.

>u mean you pay $130 a month and your dr visits are $20 a visit, specialists are $25 a visit, your $300 medication is subsidized to $5.50, and you get 2 pairs of glasses every year for $50?

I did pay $300 a month, with $5000 deductible. Doctors visits not covered, no dental, no prescription plan. My doctor gave me the same misdiagnosis 4 times in a row for 4 separate things. After paying for xrays and exams out of pocket I got fed up and decided to cancel my plan so I could get a better one. Now they tell me I'm not allowed to get health insurance till 2017 and I'll have to pay a penalty fee for having no insurance.

You're such a basic bitch.

It's not even funny.

> I was intoxicated right
> Da police be getting in my biz
> I was like silent doh
> I let him touch me in places
> He forced me against ma will dog
> But I didn't yell rape
> He wanted me to have da medical bill
> da police keepin' us down

Just do basic.

Taxes: 65%

Gas here is like $2.30. How much is yours eurofag?

what was i supposed to do then? hit him? run away?

Idk be an adult and tell him you don't want him touching you.

Da da dur hur hur.

And fck off with your medical bill. Don't be a retard and take his ass to court or w/e your dumb "meh it should be free", "meh poor me", or w/e your feels are.

Stupid hippie mentality.

Either pay it or dont. You don't pay it, your credit will suffice. But you'll get letters left n' right and calls. Knowing your dumbass though, you'll prob try n' fight it.

if i said anything like that then he would have charged me with obstruction of justice or some other bullshit charge, i think i made the best possible choices. Any other person would have had a laundry list of charges if anyone would have acted any differently than i did.

As for the medical bill, i'll just see how things progress and if i have any issues i'll deal with them when i get there.

Youre being trolled nigs

oh shit you're right bro

>Your cop is a citizen just like you, getting paid $35k a year to deal
ok hold up there captain retard, Cops are paid a retarded amount of money. In my area they make upwards of 150k a year.
