How is that even possible? Do so many people really buy shitty iPhones and macbooks for exuberant prices when they could literally get a $250 phone that has BETTER specs than a 6s minus the camera/video quality or a thinkpad for $200 which performs 90% of the things normies want just as well but has better build quality and is actually user-servicable

I thought the free market was rational? I thought the money goes to whoever provides a better product or service under capitalism at a better value?

How can Apple products be so popular when they are objectively inferior and overpriced?

You thought false. Money goes to the one who has the better marketing. You can't imagine how shitty the most of the ultraexpensive stuff outthere have pure imaginary value like Louis Viton scarfs and so on.

Apple's strategy is to sell cheap to make gadget with a 500%+ profit price. And they make it perfectly because their products have an image that makes the consumer feel himself better... not because of the qualities of the machine, but because of the brand itself.

Yeah I know...

Some designer shit is LITERALLY made in the same factory as some cheapo wallet but just has a trademark stamped on and then sold at a huge markup... But doesn't that disprove the free market?

And they make it perfectly because their products have an image that makes the consumer feel himself better... not because of the qualities of the machine, but because of the brand itself.

So how does the free market work then?

According to the "invisible hand" of Adam Smith the company which provides better products/services at a better value to the customer should reign supreme while inferior ones perish and fall out of business. So how does Economic theory explain marketing and 'designer'/luxury brands

First off go to /g/ with your fucktard apple-hate. Singular specs (CPU, RAM) =/= Experience, nor performance.

Your fucktard argument about price vs product can be made in any industry. Cars, i.e. Why would someone buy a BMW or Mercedes when they can get the same mode of transportation for cheaper.

Macbooks are over $1000, why do you need to pay $1000 to browse the internet and send some emails? @Burnblaze

But this is free market. It doesn't have to be the perfect one. Adam Smith perhaps didn't think about that the consumers also can be a target of a product.

Consumers buy what satisfies them. Sometimes you don't have to create the perfect product to make them buy it. You only have to make them think that this is perfect or that it is just what they want and need.
The consumers are buying because they are happy with their choice.

I can't apply to the apple example but as a big car fan it applys to me too. I can buy myself a perfect Volvo 2015 in a perfect condition but somehow i want that 2006 Mercedes because of its... i don't know, image? Or how it looks?

But all of this in my opinion is just part of the free market. Luxury satisfies people not with the quality but with the way they make you feel like you are superior.

no one gives a fuck about your OPINION on these subjects. Apple computers, since you are specifically talking about this one product that they make, which amounts to 1/4 of their revenue, have a great build quality. Uhh, technically they are more advanced, A9 shits on any other mobile CPU and got a much better optimisation, which leads to a much better user experience before we even get to a much better operation system. Comparing them to cheap shit shows that you don't even understand the technology.

Other than that, there is obviously branding, service and support. If you want to make big bucks, you sell a feeling, the product is just a part of it. iPhones feel comfy, get support for years and just work.

You can either buy a cheap brick from a faceless company for 200 bucks without any support or a premium feeling and performing phone everybody you know has, with a better user experience and support for 800. Anybody who isn't homeless and cares about having the best product would pick the second option, hence Apple performs pretty well in the first world, while the poorfags in 3rd world countries get chinkphones.

It's even more ridiculously obvious with macs, you can get some Asus 31241515 or Thinkpad X1235, that got nasty stickers, are fat and basically presented as throwaway goods for the poor, or a slick Macbook Pro that stands out even before you open the box. Then there is the whole OS aspect. OSX used by professionals or Windows used by office drones, what sounds more appealing?

All of them, have yet to see one that isn't an abomination. Liked the idea of KDE but the actual execution looks like a mess, Cinnamon/MATE are dumb/uninspired, Xfce looks like it's decades behind the trends, GNOME/Unity is the closest they got to decent but it's clunky and pretty inflexible actually.

You can completely customize any DE to however you want
You and me can, a normal person who wants to use a PC can't and/or doesn't want to waste their time on that shit. That's actually another huge pro for macs, you start the shit, log in and it's ready. With some shitty Windows laptop you spend the first hours deleting the bloat and configuring it, specially in the newer versions with all the privacy mess.

There are Free and Opensource alternatives
That all have the same interface problems and irrelevant because they aren't the industry standard like Office or CS. Jesus, there is not a single decent looking music player.

but the option to customize is cruical.
For you maybe. Some people want shit just to work.

Really, there is nothing to discuss. Linux is freely available to anybody, yet people don't bother with it, even after a mess like Windows 8. You can blame it on their idiocy or whatever, what's left is that it's not a viable option for the masses now.

Also one aspect I haven't seen mentioned here is innovation. Ignorance. People with technical sense (and enough money) buy apple products for superior user experience (hard to argue this when it comes to mobile devices).

...and while there are plenty of arguments for PC over Mac (many of which are true) and PCs are better than Macs for many business uses, it's undeniable that iOS is superior than windows when it comes to most creative digital fields.

There might be plenty of people paying for the brand, but they are obviously making legitimate, high quality products.

@BlogWobbles
Far from any, you still need a very specific set of hardware and it would be technically illegal, which obviously doesn't mean shit for private user but not an option for a business in the first world.

@CouchChiller
You still won't get the entire all in one package as you would with the iMac. Besides, you're not including the cost of a 4/5k 16:10 screen. Apple stuff is actually cheap when compared to similar products and not some half assed shit.

Techpill

You are ignoring the fact that value is subjective, not objective. You don't think apple products are worth their price but a lot of people do, and this could be for a number of different reasons, not just because of specs.

The invisible hand of the market means the product makers and service providers that better SATISFY the consumers will be successful, while those that fail will go out of business.
Apple, with very intelligent marketing, has made it's own name be considered by a vast amount of people a symbol of high status, of coolness and beauty, that's why people are willing to spend money on their products, it does not matter if there are products with better specs from different brands, they don't have the luxury status that Apple convinced people it does and thus people don't consider them as valuable and thus they don't satisfy people like Apple products do.

Value is subjective, success comes from better SATISFYING consumers, and this can be done in many ways, not just making mechanically better products.

By that logic, since MLM "fat loss" scam product companies makes hundreds of millions a year each in profit, they are better than Starting Strength, a routine/book that has sold a lot of copies and is utilized by tens of thousands of people but has not earned so much money.

The blogs with legitimate, tangiable information have failed on some level - failed to understand the market, to promote themselves, to provide the things that people actually want and at the price they're willing to pay (whatever that price may be). According to the "invisible hand" of Adam Smith the company which provides better products/services at a better value to the customer should reign supreme while inferior ones perish and fall out of business.
The invisible hand doesn't really have much to do with the "better" product winning out, it's just the principle that with a lack of government interference, the product with the most demand will have the most success, and demand is very easy to artificially create these days in developed countries.

Color accuracy, brightness, time it takes to switch them. View angle stability is mostly standard too by now. The software for media creation is their strength, not office drone work.

Given that people that actually do that shit are some faggy hipster cucks and there are bazillions of office drones, the ability to do office drone work with a computer is vastly more important. And of course since most of the "work" software runs on windows (office, accounting, engineering, etc.) it is highly likely, that the best software for media creation is made for Windows too. And in gaming, Windows cucks Mac by a wide margin.

Besides given the unix nature they are nice for devs too.

Those IT geeks' poison of choice seems to be Linux.

And if you want to create apps for the app store, there isn't an alternative ... and obviously you do want to create apps for the most profitable store.

Given that there are a lot more users for Android phones worldwide, you would hit a larger audience by developing for Android phones.

and there are bazillions of office drones, the ability to do office drone work with a computer is vastly more important
And here is where your thinking fails and the reason why Apple is so successful. They don't care about making a computer for most people, they have a clearly defined idea they follow and want to attract only certain customers. Take their one port macbook, it's a completely horror for most people who can't use their old shit with it, it's a complete delight for frequent travelers and people who do everything wirelessly. There is no size fits them all device and they don't even try to make one, unlike MS for example who still try to merge tablets and laptops.

Those IT geeks' poison of choice seems to be Linux.
Really depends on what they are do, for a lot work it's Linux, for other stuff, specially web related and mobile development, OSX it is.

Given that there are a lot more users for Android phones worldwide, you would hit a larger audience by developing for Android phones.
Sure but what's the benefit of a larger audience that doesn't pay shit? There might be couple idealists in between but most devs want to get paid and App store has 70+% of all mobile revenues, while having much fewer users, as you said.

Given that you are fanboi, I don't trust you.
I use pretty much every popular OS there is, user. *typed on a Windows 10 PC*

With tons of bloat you have to clean up again ... a fresh install is preferably in every scenario.

And not to mention, the Macs have to run both Macshit OS and Windows OS at the same time, so the Mac ends up being even more shitty and slower than it usually is.
That's not how it works. Bootcamp isn't virtualisation, it's having each OS side by side, only using resources, when you're using it.

Gullible retards that buy any shit, that has a picture of an apple on it is pretty much their target audience.

Seriously, what is the point of paying 2k for a food tray, that you can go to facebook with and nothing else?

All of Mac machines value is derived from marketing bullshit and perception of luxury. They can't do jack shit and they cost thrice as much as a regular computer, which have better hardware to boot.

And given that Windows is piss easy to use, I don't really see, where this luxury is fucking coming from except from their bullshit price tags.

Other ambiguous marketing ramblings

Sure thing m8.

There might be couple idealists in between but most devs want to get paid and App store has 70+% of all mobile revenues

That's the apple business model: rip off the customer at every step. Someone told me, that he had to pay 50 dollars to get a calculator app , that doesn't spam ads, on iPhone. Like those fucking 20 year old cell phones had that shit on them for free.

They even rip you off with their 20$ "Lightning cables". Your regular USB cables cost like 3-4$ or some shit like that. Everything those fags do is a rip off.

And 79$ for a FUCKING POWER adapter? Like what the fuck man? I made a half assed electronic alarm clock once and I can tell you, that shit costs nowhere near that.
With tons of bloat you have to clean up again ... a fresh install is preferably in every scenario.

Never had to do it with any of my computers.
