As long as there is demand for +300k houses and people are not willing to pay more than 25% of their income for housing, +25 year mortgages are a norm >20% VAT amongst other ludicrous tax. Look at Utah for example, doesnt have a retardedly inaccessible housing market with homes ranging as low as 35k USD, 3 bedroom 1 bathroom, which is as big as this home im living in right now execpt this costs 500k GBP on the market.
The 20% VAT cucks businesses small and big, no wonder that so many of them exploit loopholes and other things to avoid them. Europe in general has the highest black market in terms of tax evasion.

Murrican born in the UK here. Because class mobility is not a fucking thing in Europe. Americans don't realize this because they don't know shit about the world outside of Murrica. Europeans don't know that the rest of the world isn't like this.
Here's how it goes: if you're lower class you have no ins anywhere, just safety nets. People think you're trying to be posh and get above yourself if you try to advance. You'll be sneered at, and quite probably not offered jobs/promotions that pay a decent salary. If you're middle class you'll have the ins needed to get into middle class paying jobs, but taxes will eat most of your income. You're understood to be a commoner. If you're upper class, then your rich lodge buddies and school mates make openings for you in terms of lucrative investments and high paying jobs. You look down your nose at commoner filth, sneer at foreigners, and use anyone lucky enough to be nouveau riche for their money while sneering at them behind their back. They only look up to the royal family, who have far more money than most suspect.
That's how it fucking works. I'm guessing that you're American because you don't already know this. Europe is not some fucking paradise that's like America but more cultured and with more history, it's a hell-hole for anyone born lower class who is locked out of a better life, and it's socialistic economy is geared to prevent violent uprising by funding social safety nets.

I'm a UK grad who is too autistic to pass graduate job interviews. Also I have a northern accent. I'm tired of going for London job interviews and being surrounded by posh people. But frankly I have no idea if I could handle normies.
Also I think we need to stop ever feeling sorry for poor people who live in London. They have all the opportunities in the fucking world.
I don't even know how the UK is so rich. The rest of the world must be lazy or brain damaged if they're poorer than us. All worthwhile jobs are in London. There are various shitty engineering jobs throughout the country that are so low paid it's laughable. And of course tonnes of HR / marketing / sales jobs. What do they even do? I imagine once I start a full time job they'll take me in to an underground crypt and tell me that the economy runs on pixie dust and nobody knows anything.

Anything that helps British business be more competitive is highly valued. Demonstrating value is a huge part of this and that is why marketing and sales are fairly large operators in the economy.
HR exists because companies are massive and administration is a massive task which requires a lot of man hours.

The only houses being built right now are high rise apartments, but nearly all of them are advertised towards 'professionals', so you're paying £300,000 for a 2 bedroom flat, with a shitty kitchenette.
This also leads to gentrification, all the broke people move out (Most new homes are being built in inner city nigger areas) and then becomes even more expensive.
