Pretty sure it's supposed to cancel when you equip a non instrument like dagger or bow, not re-equipping your instrument / another instrument. If it did before that'd be a bug now fixed most likely.

I couldn't actually find anything about its refine in the files relating to skills when I increased the odds.
Tried google too but no luck.
So I _think_ it might just use the same table as the refine NPC.
