I'm the guy who's had a car in the shop for 2 years now. Update, I called him and he said it's all painted and has to put back on the headlights and taillights and all that and it'll be done in a few weeks. Called my mom and I guess that's where he was at the beginning if March.
He said he'll call me within a week to come and see it in person.
I'm never getting my car back am I?
Luke Turner
what the fuck?
Grayson Perry
y u do this That car went to Mexico a year and a half ago.
Ayden Thompson
Nah I went in and saw it last summer. That's what that pic is from.
Nolan Rogers
Also my mom called our insurance person and they couldn't believe that it's been in there for 2 years and were like wtf senpai.
She said the claim is so old she can't find it and it's probably archived somewhere and she'll look into it.
Josiah Sanchez
Why didn't you take it to a proper mechanic
Leo Adams
I think I missed the original thread, why? How the fuck have you let them have your car for 2 fucking years?
Ayden Peterson
>Car in shop for two years >fucking shithole of a shop OP you're a fucking moron.
Jaxson Martin
Nobody would do it. Just wanted to total it. This guy does show cars and had great reviews. We think he took the insurance claim money and paid other shit off with it and has been using the profits from the rental cars to slowly work on our car.
Dylan Morgan
Holy shit I've also had a car in a shop for like 2 years. It's just about ready though. Guy didn't start on it til a few weeks ago lol.
Robert Collins
My brother hit a pole 2 weeks after my mom got it for me. Afterwards she bought me a cheap x300 ($2000 it was a great deal) so I've been using that. It's not like I haven't had a car. But we've rushed him and regularly called but it's just taken forever.
Kevin Robinson
2 years for that damage, why did your family stand for this?
If the back end was literally 180° upside down compared to the front then that might have made more sense, but this?
Ridiculous.
>rushed him >2 years
You're a troll right? Or some kind of master b8man??
Shit I'm mad right now.
Josiah Fisher
It sat on the tires for 2 years? The tires have a pressure spot now due to the belts shifting? If a car sits that long, it should do so on jackstands.
Remember that water vapor can cause rust in the car like that unless it was properly prepared for long term storage.
Seals can also go bad from standing still in one position for a long time. So you will have to check for slow oil leaks now. You will need to look up what to do to bring a car back to life out of longterm storage.
Aiden Nguyen
>Okay user it's finally done, here's the final tally for everything >$19,984+Tax >It's nice eh?
Nathan Fisher
If insurance paid him user doesn't owe him shit. Hence why he's taking so fucking long.
Joshua Moore
Did you slap that shit out of your brother? This is really why I don't let other people drive my cars.
Jordan Fisher
Unfortunately no I'm not a troll. And because we are beta I guess. Don't want to be rude because we still want it done well.
Cameron Gray
Old XJ6 are a dime a dozen why the fuck would you have that repaired? Use it for a fucking parts car and buy another XJ6
Ryder Williams
>Haven't seen damages go beyond insurance claims It's been in the shop for 2 YEARS, chances are it's gone above and he will try to squirrel money out of OP. I guarantee it.
Jacob Jones
Naw that's serious damage dude and I agree the car wasn't economically repairable, AKA totaled, but it still shouldn't have taken two years. Honestly though OP should've found another one.
David Foster
We bought new tires for it. But yea engine stuff I'll have to look into. I stole his car for awhile until I got mine. Unfortunately his car gets 8mpg though
Brody Collins
>>Haven't seen damages go beyond insurance claims That's when the mechanic goes back to the insurance and says gibe mone pls
probably won't get it and then try to surprise OP which i would just take my spare keys and drive the car out for the fucking gall.
Xavier Reyes
In NC that's a great way to get shot dead
Dylan Myers
>I'm the guy who's had a car in the shop for 2 years now.
That car has taken on additional damage for not moving for two years. The liquids in the car along with seals need to be exercised or bad things happen. Were all the liquids drained and the inside of engine stabilized of water? I wonder how much rust there is in your water pump?
Caleb Morris
>how to kill a jag
let it sit 2 years
Ian Moore
He had to go back to get money for new wheel bearings a year ago or so. Fuck I didn't even think of all this ;-;
Brayden Rogers
>In NC that's a great way to get shot dead Shoot back
You're taking back what's yours from someone trying to ransom it.
Oliver Kelly
Americans are so fucking stupid I can't even comprehend what goes through some dimwit like OPs brain most of the time.
Fuck.
Jordan Lewis
>nobody would repair it, said it's totaled >NUH-UH >one guy in a shitshop offered repairs
Learned your lesson motherfucker?
Isaac Harris
Actually, the ones I'd be worried about are the internal transmission seals and brake master cylinder pistons. It's not uncommon to get in a car that's sat for years and find lolnobrakes. Which doesn't matter that much because lolwon'tmoveeither.
Henry Martinez
I can almost hear your 1.3l 3 cylinder from here.
Julian Campbell
So basically if and when I get this back I'm going to have to dump more money into it to make it run
Sebastian James
He took your money in advance. If he charges additional money for it after 2 years, he needs to be sued for fraud in court and given MAXIMUM sentence. What he did was against the law for repair work in my state and probably in yours too. So you should look up the laws ahead of time and be ready to shove it in his face if he makes claims that you owe him for the repairs since he already took the insurance money.
The car looks mistreated in the photo as it sat in one spot on its tires for 2 years. The engine is probably full of rust by now. The gasoline evaporated and left sludgy something residue behind I bet in various places of the car fuel system.
If he tells you he ran the engine for a short time occasionally, then that actually makes it worse because short runs generate water vapor in the oil from blowby and the engine crankcase doesn't get hot enough to evaporate the water out of the oil.
Before you run, you have to check all fluids and the oil dipstick. Don't know what to do about the gas tank contents.
Ayden Diaz
This
It's a shitty old jag. It's not rare or collectible any more than a Honda civic is. Why did you not take the insurance money and run?
Ethan James
2.4L five cylinder turbo you fucking faggot.
Henry Gray
This m8
if he charges you for anything, take the car and call a lawyer
Matthew Sanders
>2.4L five cylinder >has less than 6 cylinders
HOLY SHIT I'M DYIN
Joshua Wright
He took so long that he probably just wanted you to walk away from it. Max profit.
Since you didn't walk away, he then did the bare minimum repairs to make it run and still took more money for repairs in the meantime as you said. So, as of now, he is hoping right now you will take it back in shitty BARELY running condition just because you are glad HE claims it is done. It is not done unless YOU claim it is done. Two years is bad. WHat advice does your insurance company have for you about a repair shop that has strung you along for two years? What would they do? The insurance company rep probably knows the name of the law for such occasions when the shop claims it can do the repair, takes the money, waits forever, and then gives it back to you in poor condition and with additional damage.
The shop can say they are not responsible for additional damage, but under the laws of due diligence, a shop is actually responsible for some things. If the shop failed to exercise due diligence, then you can sue them successfully for some things.
Austin Martin
Enjoy your stiff axles and ridiculous hp/liter ratio you fucking idiot. Your "cars" are nothing but cast iron boxes with wheels on them.
'Sides, we make the best |6 in the world. You need not apply.
Nathan Murphy
lol OP all the seals in your car are fucked by now
valve seals go bad really fast if the car hasnt been started every week or so, the rest is probably fucked by now anyways, wouldn't even pick it up anymore
Dominic Torres
>stiff axles and ridiculous hp/liter ratio >this delusion
Nolan Johnson
The best part is if he walks away from it now, he lost everything. Pissed away the money AND lost the car.
Great stuff.
Gabriel Morales
You're driving it.
Brakes work for the first 10 uses.
They start to fade a lot and you need to press the pedal more to stop.
After the 10th use, the seals finally gave way due to 2 years non-use, leakage, and rust. Losing fluid each time you pump brakes.
NEW ACCIDENT DUE TO NO BRAKES. The shop hoped for this situation because now he is off the hook for bad or faked repairs. He will blame all problems you now find on your fresh new accident due to "LOL no brakes" after you used the brakes 10 or so times.
Happy days again for the cheating shop. Blame free due to OP having no brakes accident on the way home.
Anyways, if you are able to do oil change at home, inspect the oil. Or you might even send it to Blackstone Labs for a test analysis. They will also tell you if coolant is in there (a bad sign).
Anyways, I suppose you have your pre-inspection checklist handy before you accept the car back from him and sign the paperwork saying that you officially got the car back.
Matthew Cooper
joe
Matthew Brown
What ;-;
Alexander Martinez
I'd love to see OPs face when he read this thread and realized how hard he fucked up
Robert Brooks
Eh. If it runs and drives after you're good.
Carter Reed

Cooper Edwards
Have your cellphone on and in hands free during the drive back home. Someone is following you to see you are okay. No freeway until you know what is wrong?
ANYWAYS, the shop is to do a proper road test of the car and that includes FREEWAY driving test. He is not to use the customer for the road test.
MAKE SURE he does a full road test in the car and you see it. No more of this I already did the road test talk. You'll follow him in your car while he does the road test to proves it works on the freeway. At least two off ramp and two on ramps too plus city driving and traffic light stops. If he is too nervous, then you know he has faked repairs.
"""No, Mr Anonymous, I will not drive that car as it is unsafe to drive."""" That means he has not completed repairs. But because he tried to get you to take it in that condition, it also means he tried to deceive you too.
Eli Morales
Inspect the car after the test drive for leaks. Look underneath. Wet spots?
two year old gasoline in the tank must be thicker by now since all the most volatile parts of the gasoline evaporated first.
Grayson Watson
I'm feeling extremely shitty right now. I loved this car and have been super patient and now I'm realizing she'll never drive again.
Colton Taylor
Try that and when OP insists on the road test a second time, OP goes in the fucking trunk.
Jaxson Bailey
user do you live in 30's Chicago or something
Adrian Martin
>pothole
Do you mean fucking building?
Connor Baker
I said pole senpai
Julian Evans
user are you having a stroke?
Please call 911 and relax
Ryan Parker
My bad. Still, you are the ultimate beta. Fucking sue his ass. That's like 2 months work, tops, not two fucking years. Your car is gonna need a whole lot more work since it sat so long. Sue him for the cost of taking it to a proper shop to get a complete brake rebuild, and have them look over everything else.
Cooper Young
Why is the dent rusted? It looks like the photo was taken at least a year after it was damaged.
Michael Bailey
Bare metal rusts in terms of miliseconds m8.
>cleaning out motorcycle gas tank >use diluted phosphoric acid >rust all gone >leave it for a couple minutes >rust has started to form again, visibly, sickeningly
Sebastian Barnes
It had sat a week after the wreck there Snowy salty roads senpai.
Isaiah Rivera
Did you send this car to Hennessey's autistic brother or something? You should have been to his shop every fucking day after a month. "putting head lights in" that's bullshit, you can see theyre just taped up in the picture and I doubt he ever bothered to remove them. It probably isn't even painted yet.
Ryder Parker
Op here. I've decided to just kill myself.
Hudson Bell
One weird thing to me about these stories and anyone who works in a shop that's either high end, in a major city, or both, is the absolute WORST thing for a shop is having a car sitting around for too long. The space it takes loses you money, every day that goes on something bad can happen to the car while it's in your care or something can knock into it, it's just unthinkable that someone would go "meh just let it sit there we'll finish it next year"
Caleb Gray
>space it takes loses you money, every day Doesn't matter because nobody goes there because they don't want their oil change to take a month.
Gavin Kelly
Fucking this, I wouldn't be surprised if he faked those good reviews and just paid someone else for a show car. This is Canadian tow truck tier scamming
Jayden Howard
They were all word of mouth reviews.
Bentley Young
Those words and mouths ain't fixin yo car nigga
Jace Gonzalez
OP you need to have a chat with your insurance. See what can be done.
Surprised that a insurance company would pay up BEFORE any work is complete.
When I had a fender bender my insurance was very clear... Take the car to whatever shop you want and email us their contact info, once work is complete make sure you are thoroughly satisfied with repairs before signing anything, then we will handle payment.
Thomas Edwards
Read my post down a bit from the top. Just called today do it was so old she couldn't find the claim and I think it's in archives so it might take a bit for a response. And nah they just threw him the money.
James Foster
Damn OP it sounds like you're fucked and it's not even your fault this time.
Anthony Collins
You say that like you're proud
James Taylor
By 'have a chat' I mean follow up aggressively with your insurance. Get them to find that claim asap. If there is an actual office you can go to and talk to someone in person do it.
Right now your two years out with no car and no money. It's not a good situation for you. If you can get the insurance on your side they have a fuck ton of resources and pull at their disposal.
Cameron Collins
This, OP. Things move much smoother if it's an insurance company suing a faggot for fraud than it would if YOU were trying to do the same.
Jesus you have a sixth sense or some shit. I rarely visit here and regular /k/
Asher Sanchez
Fuck mayte, we got blight
Dominic Thomas
Cars can sit for years in dry storage stop trying to wind up OP.
Also, OP, two years is too long for any kind if repair, let alone one paid for by insurance. You need to get onto your insurance company and have them put pressure on the repairer to finish the job, failing that, have them take it to another repairer. Insurance companies have a lot more weight to throw around so can get shit done a lot quicker
Wyatt Wright
He's right, I assume your silly denial is just a eurotroll trying to make Americans look ignorant
Jack Johnson
I'm gonna go ahead and call bullshit here. If it's totalled, it's totalled no insurance company in the U.S. Is going to let you take it to a special snowflake shop to get it repaired. That puts them on the hook for all repair costs, all storage costs if the car cannot be repaired, and any parts the mechanic buys if the car isn't repaired. I have worked in insurance for years and no company I know of does business this way. They would have recommended one of the shops they have an agreement with or had an estimate written by a staff estimator. Calling BS here user
Asher Sanchez
>you didn't just go there last week when everybody told you to go there last week pussy ass nigga
Josiah Edwards
>Cars can sit for years in dry storage stop trying to wind up OP.
You neglected to say "properly prepared" as this car was probably not prepared for long term storage. The shop is run by a careless "i don't care" repair person who misused the insurance money AND even got extra money beyond the original insurance money.
Brody Wright
OP, do NOT sign off on the car unless the work is actually completed. This repair guy is going to do whatever it takes to scam you into signing the acceptance form that you are taking the car back "as is".
Hot glue holding the headlight in place long enough to fool you on a test drive? Don't be so fast to sign the paperwork just because this 2 year scammer shoves the paperwork under your nose over and over and over. Once you carelessly sign the paperwork with the "as is" embedded somewhere in the fine print you are stuck and you torpedo'ed your insurance company from helping you.
Since he took 2 plus years to fix the car, he should not expect you to instantly sign the paperwork with "AS IS" clause in just 2 minutes. The insurance agent can give you advice to sign or not.
Leo Perry
No it doesn't
Michael Morgan
Insurance guy has called the body shop guy personally and has forced a 4 week deadline.
Eli Martin
>HE STILL HAS TO WAIT FOUR (4) WEEKS
I posted early on in this thread and I'm still triggered by this.
Fucking hell don't ever let this be repeated, and that does to everyone and not just op
Ethan Mitchell
Let me be an example of don't be so patient. But after 2 years 4 weeks isn't really anything.
Zachary Barnes
Make sure you still do everything we've told you to do about testing it and having him test it. Do NOT take it back without him doing that. Hell, if you can, have a rep from the insurance company come along with you so you have their muscle right there if the faggot tries to play coy.
Also, never let your brother touch another one of your cars again.
Ryan Jackson
Yea ive talked over all this with my mom about checking things and making sure it's him that does a road test not us.
Henry Johnson
Holy shit, OP. I get impatient if my car is in the shop for 2 hours, how the fuck can you stand 2 years?
You are literally getting cucked.
Parker Russell
What if... > labor is 79 an hour >3427.5 hours
Lincoln Richardson
when the insurance guy talked to him on the phone he got an agreement that no more costs will be added.
Michael Russell
>how to kill a jag
try to start it
Cooper Ward
Flash rusting is a thing. Happened to me when I soaked and pressure washed the cylinder heads during a full rebuild. The few seconds after I wiped the iron heads down and air blasted them dry, they started rusting. There was a few hokey pokey moments with a can of WD-40 and the air hose.
Grayson Miller
>Yea ive talked over all this with my mom about checking things and making sure it's him that does a road test not us.
You will follow him in your car to make sure he actually gets on the freeway or does a real drive test at different speeds. That makes sure he doesn't go around the block, park the car for 10 minutes, and then come back. A real test drive should be 10 minutes minimum.
Be ready after the test drive to inspect the car yourself. Look for liquids leaking. Immediately sniff the car for burning smell. Check dipstick for bubbles in oil (prolly coolant if bubbles). Have flashlight to shine behind the wheel when you peer behind the wheel to look for leaks from caliper area. A small mirror may be useful since the car is probably not up on a hoist.
I would feel nervous if he refused to take it on the freeway because he felt that was too risky for HIMself to do that. If he feels it is too risky to drive, then you should feel it is too risky for you to drive.
Do NOT sign papers unless you get a real idea it is properly tested. An easy going 35MPH drive around the block doesn't count. If it cannot go freeway speed and you see smoke coming out as you follow, then the engine is in trouble from all that sitting.
By the way, just in case he tries the excuse "it was leaking before the test" you can inspect the car before the test so that you can compare before and after if new leaks appear or a new burning smell occurs.
The insurance agent is probably telling this story all over the company about this new record time taken to do car repair. It probably holds the record at 2 years 4 weeks.
Noah Harris
How long a test drive? Maybe the insurance agent can give you an idea of what a test drive should be like after the car sat for 2 years. The agent might need to get info from a claims adjuster inspector before getting back to you.
