Taking into account 99% of modern petrols rev to 6.2k or thereabouts, it's not really that much of a loss.

I know what diesels are, I've driven quite a few and owned one. I know most of them can rev to 5k, but that's pathetic compared to a petrol engine.

European diesels have LITERALLY an endless aftermarket, you dip. There are even mass-fabricated DPF dummies and whatnot.
Want a bigger turbo for a Punto? Just get a Garrett or a Honeywell from an Iveco or whatever. Want a nice FMIC? Get one from Forge.
Want better headers? Get some from literally every web store specialised in diesel tuning.
Want bigger injectors? Get some from a bigger engine. Etc, etc.

When modding a european diesel, the only limit is how deep your pocket is.
There are italian guys pushing more than 180hp from 1.3 multijets. There are guys pushing north of 350hp from 1.9 multijets.
