Rotary engines make a lot of power for their size, but they're just a glorified 2 stroke that manages to use more fuel than a v8 engine will, make heat like nothing else because the combustion chamber never not has a fire in it and on top of that they sound like a lawnmower. The fact that you can still fit an ls in an rx-7 means that there was literally no reason for it to use such a small engine in the first place.
