Mine is a question about the dodge stratus; guy has one listed and says it's awd, I'm 99% certain it's a fwd car, and I can't find anything saying otherwise. Is the guy just retarded, or am I?
Picture unrelated but a e s t h i c
Eli Clark
FWD. People not even knowing what drivetrain they have is why I won't touch Craigslist.
Chase Rodriguez
Guys i'm a little scared. Over the course of the week, i've witnessed two different soccer moms take a picture of my license plate at a stop light. I dont drive too fast so why the fuck are they doing this?
Mason Gray
Afaik, they were all FWD as they left the showroom. Since some of them were based on the Mitsu Eclipse platform I've heard of people doing the AWD conversion using Mitsu parts.
I'd avoid unless I knew the guy who did the conversion was a professional. It would suck to drop a rear propshaft while going down the highway.
Sebastian Brooks
I don't know what you're doing to trigger them but they can't do shit with a license plate photo.
Jeremiah Bennett
Ah I see. The price was sitting at 450 because it's a donation car, dunno what that means but for now it means I'm not touching that car.
Although it did lead me to another one with more info and reliable pictures for 1k, so cool.
Adrian Gomez
How does one keep calm when dealing with the pressures of trying to deal with jews at dealerships? Damn near snapped when they showed me the "Fees" being attached to the car price. 1300 dollars of absolute bullshit.
Connor Harris
I do play my music a little loud. If they file a complaint I can just deny it because of no evidence, right?
Jonathan Wright
1. Cops aren't going to give a shit or even do anything about it even if there was evidence 2. There has to be proof that it was you driving 3. The women have no proof of you doing anything if it's just a photo
You sure there's nothing that stands out about your car that would warrant a picture for another reason?
Noah Nguyen
It's a stock 08 outback. I have some paracord and clips in my trunk to keep shit from sliding around but thats it.
Thanks for putting my mind at ease, I really dont feel like getting a ticket because some soccermom got triggered.
Cameron Kelly

Are all brake fluid brands of the same DOT the same? Meaning, can I get whatever oreily's/autozone is selling, is there a difference between cheap and expensive "performance" brake fluid?
Bentley Young
They are pretty much all the same so don't worry about getting the super sport extreme break fluid over the vatozone stuff.

>head to bank >soccer mom parked in handicapped spot >no plates no hanger >she is coming out >say "you know that's a handicapped spot right?" >she loses her shit, goes off on me screaming >this is shit I don't need >I walk away and flip her the bird over my shoulder as I go in the bank
several hours later I'm chilling at home >ding dong >couple of officers in drive >come downstairs see what I can do to help >walk out door >they are 30' away flanked out in a V >hands on gun butts >I'm in gym shorts tee and bare feet
In short we had a long chat about what is legal (free speech is flipping the bird randomly into the air) what is illegal (words or gestures escalating a conflict) and who decides (a jury, not a cop or some cunt) if flipping a bird over your shoulder as you walk away is the latter.
I don't know who she knew or what she said but I basically ignored her and I think that's what really pissed her the fuck off, the bird thing was just an excuse for the officers- who showed up expecting me to be a 7' tall raging nigger on angle dust not a pasty irish neckbeard.
in the end I wound up giving them a tour of my van and everybody was chill even though I wouldn't promise to not call people out on hc parking nor keep my middle finger to myself.

>Having trouble bleeding my brakes Rear ones went okay but it's hard to get anything out of the front ones, the nipple is clean the lines look fine.
I don't know what to do, are there any special steps for a car with ABS?
Zachary Brown
Can anyone identify this drivetrain?
Hunter Russell
Yes. Brake fluids are all basically the same within a rating. If you want "premium" brake fluid, use DOT 4 instead of DOT 3. Or Perhaps even DOT 5.1 (NOT 5) if you can find it and want to spend the money.
It's better to change DOT 3 more often than it is to rarely change DOT 4 because they're all hygroscopic and that "de-rates" the brake fluid over time as it picks up water.
I'm anal about brakes, so I use DOT 4 and bleed them every year on my bikes.
Brayden Murphy
What methods are you using to get the brake fluid out?
The best way to do it is with two people, one pumping the brake pedal and the other turning the bleed nipple.
Dylan Miller
I don't know about cars and whether their ABS reservoir / manifold has a purge function.
On my bike with ABS the computer maintenance / diagnostics protocols have a function where you can repeated force the ABS pump to cycle and pumps fluid through the manifold. It double the amount of time to bleed, but gets that fluid out and bled.
Angel Barnes
Saying you don't want them not work? Threaten to walk away and maybe they'll change their tune.
Parker Powell
I have a 1 way valve and some hose, the pressure required to overcome the valve was way too much.
Just put some hose in a plastic bottle and filled it above the intake of the hose like pic related.
So there's no pressure to be overcome outside of the calipers, it can flow free. I just put the hose on, open the vale and pump the pedals filling the res as it got low.
Easton Long
Guy here who posted the thread about the Explorer yesterday. To the fag that I was talking to, thanks. The newer gasket wasn't a perfect fit, but it was so close that with a little coaxing/foam tape it's got a great seal and my hatch no longer leaks. Option 4 wins again
Ethan Evans
This.
Rule Numero Uno when buying anything, but especially cars: Always be willing to walk.
If you get emotionally evolved they have you by the balls. And if you get angry you're only hurting yourself.
Luis Carter
In what parallel universe is flipping the bird illegal?
Jose Flores
Yeah. The automakers are cranking 18 million new cars in the US every year, and more coming every day. You don't HAVE to buy a car, but they MUST sell cars to stay in business. It's all just making a deal where they make some money and move cars, and you leave happy with no hard feelings. You can always walk.
Don't take it personally.
Carson White
are you topping up master cylinder as you go? what order of wheel did you go from? furtherst from cylinder to closest? Is the hose to form an upwards facing kink or downwards facing? its much easier with two people to get all the air out than alone, cant tell if all the air is gone if its just you and you cant see the line as youre stomping the brakes.
Eli Thompson
bought a k&n washable air filter bought because a one of $60 is better than the $20 i'll spend every time for the throwaway ones. It claims that you gain power and torque, i dont buy it and highly doubt it. thoughts?
Michael Howard
Topping the cylinder up as I'm going, never letting it get below 1/4 full.
Started from from the furtherest back, then closer back, then furtherest front then closest front.
Checked all the lines for kinks, none. all the lines on the hoses are straight.
James Bennett
They don't filter as well as a pleated paper filter. You will see more dust enter the engine.
I use an oiled foam filter on my dirt bike, but I don't expect it to last more than 30K miles.
Blake Sanders
They probably mean more power than a dirty filter. Unless it's a different design or one that lets more air flow.
Camden Stewart
Mechanic here, 99% of cars with ABS (with the exception of certain Land Rovers and Pajeros with electrically boosted brakes) don't require you to bleed the ABS system in order to get a good pedal.
The only time fluid actually passes through any of the ABS solenoid channels is when it's active, so if your ABS isn't working properly then it would at least need a proper bleed done using a scan tool.
Bentley Evans
rip. old filter was certainly doing its job, not very dirty at all but a few bugs in the pleats. its eant to be a high flow filter. less segments than the paper one for sure. the induction noise is certainly different, it sounds a bit angrier at 5+k where you would usually hear the induction noise anyway. kinda metallic, i like it.
Samuel Garcia
Cool, now do an oil change.

im looking to buy another car. i know a lot of guys like manual transmissions. why should i choose a manual over an automatic. why should i chose an automatic over a manual
Xavier Powell
new stick shift driver here. does my engine lurch a bit when I start moving in first because I'm not giving it enough gas when I engage the clutch?
if you live in a city with narrow streets or stop and go traffic go with automatic as well
Evan Nelson
Looks fun as fuck, especially with that RPK on it.
Automatic is good if you sit in stop-and-go traffic all the time.
Old automatics (less than 5 speed) get worse mileage than manuals.
They're about equal on the highway.
I dunno, man. Test drive one of each and get whatever feels right to you.
Alexander Jackson
Maybe. Maybe you're letting the clutch out a bit fast.
I usually try to bring the RPMs up ~50 above idle, and maintain that throughout letting the clutch out.
In practice, it's usually more like 2-300 above idle and the RPM drops about to idle.
Practice, practice, practice, and don't be afraid of trying different methods
Aaron Price
There is a law which says it's illegal to use language or gestures to incite or escalate a situation in Colorado. It's pretty thin to extend that to randomly flipping the bird at some cunt, and it would never get to court, but it's still broadly technically illegal. It certainly hasn't stopped me from flipping people off.
There was actually a case in another state where a guy win the right to flip police off as freedom of speech-he literally had to go to court for flipping off every cop he saw all the time.
Jose Brooks

Do I go with the pre 97 or 97-01 Jeep xj? Also, what price range is realistic for the later model 97-01s? I've seen anywhere from 2500-7000 on CL.
Adrian Mitchell
Huh I had no idea that was technically illegal here. I guess I'm a career criminal.
Tyler Ward
I bought my near factory, mint, rust-free 2000 model for $3000 from a dealership. Prices here are pretty set around that range in KY. Modded XJs with lifts and good tires go up to about $5500. Older models pre-97 usually never go above $2000, unless they have tons of mods.

My family has offered to buy me a 2011 Subaru Impreza if I give up my 2004 Legacy L.
Should I do it? I really love my legacy.
Robert Nelson
Tell them you need it to have the convenience package called "WRX".
Justin Hall
Seems to be a little more over here, about 1k more give or take. Seen a couple modded newer xjs for 7k and even some pre 97s with 250k mi going for as high as 5000. But, I'm in WA. I'd prefer a stock xj myself. Just wanted to make sure before I went into the market what prices are going for lately.
Jayden Mitchell
For your area that really seems to be the "fair" price. XJ prices are kind of jumping lately anyway, with the addition of winter being upon us. I got a good deal on mine because I paid cash, two days before Christmas when no one is buying cars.

No vanlife thread atm. I was going to move into my vehicle tomorrow morning. My window just got smashed last night, i just came back from the police (insurance won't cover it so it's out of my pocket). someone tried to break in. i had a rolled rug and a few empty cardboard boxes in it and a blanket. My windows are heavily tinted already though. Other than getting a steering wheel lock, what security measures should I take? get an alarm system for it? At night I will have covers on the window but is that helpful? It was done sometime last night. During the day there's a lot of people around walking their dogs. So if I have covers on my windows at night, does that make me less vulnerable to theft or more? obviously I'm going to have all of my possessions in the vehicle, mainly boxes of clothing and my bedding. I can hide my laptop in the empty place the seats would fold into (removed the seats). Otherwise all i have is clothing and blankets.
specifically I don't know what to do because it's friday now, can't get it repaired before I move into it, just asked for an extra day and my flatmate won't let me stay another night or two.
So anyway is just a steering wheel lock enough to deter theft significantly? I want to get an alarm system put in as well but it might be a week or two until then. Any other advice is good too, I can't really think straight right now, this is just the worst possible time this could have happened. One way or another tomorrow night i am sleeping in that vehicle. I'm also going to think about "moving" to a less crime-y suburb and taking the rail in every day. not sure yet.
Christian Martinez
**i should say this area is supposedly really safe, but there are hobos around. very family oriented and a lot of people walking dogs from morning until like 11 pm.
what should I do about the window in the mean time? i can't get it to a mechanic until monday and i have no garage, just street parking. I also don't want to drive it like this, it's drivers side front window. Should I put packing tape over it, or a tarp or something?
Joseph Parker
>can't get it replaced before i move in duct tape and some cardboard the hole up Plastic bag on the outside for waterproofing if you can wrench and it's not a fixed window (like the windshield or rear windows) you may be able to get a replacement at a junkyard >how do i prevent theft? get a storage unit and keep anything irreplaceable or expensive there If you're living in it this will prevent theft better than an alarm or the club, save your money for housing >not taking your houselessmobile with you everywhere i would advise against this, it's your home now figure out a few good places to camp at night, at least 3, and rotate good luck an/o/n

Important question: person is selling a 2005 rx8, manual, for 1500, with the tag "needs engine," I haven't inquired any further as to why it needs one.
It's 1500 though, so my question is, can I buy this car, but an engine, and pay someone to drop it in and not take a bath on this?
Car looks really clean from the pictures they provided. Where would I go to hand this done? Mazda dealer?
Levi Jenkins
that's a lot for an rx8 shell
Bentley Williams
I have no clue honestly, I've never priced anything other than a 4x4 or sedan.
Maybe the engine can actually be repaired by I have pretty much zero knowledge of wankel engine. Would be nice for work, 90 minute commute up and down a mountain, the car would definitely be driven the way it likes
Jaxson Sullivan
I don't know in the USA but in the UK an RX-8 non-runner [from engine blowing] costs £250-800 averaging probably 700 by volume.
This is because a proper rotary rebuild [in the UK, we have lots of rotary specialists not too sure how easy it will be if you're US] is around 2-3k depending on the level of damage and how much you want to replace.
Michael Rivera
The glass held but it's cracked all over. Oh and now it's snowing, fuck me. If I put clear tape over it, will that hold the glass together until I can see a mechanic? I'm also going to park in the next neighborhood over, they have 1/3 as many auto breakins as my area according to the crime map. I'm going now to buy a wheel bar. I can keep stuff out of it today but tomorrow night I'm dwelling with the window as it is. I can't wrench, I'm useless. Thanks for reply.
Isaac Lee
I may just hold out some and wait another couple weeks then. I've got about 4k to throw around at the moment, so I'll shoot for that. Haven't even really thought of looking at dealers, either.
Matthew Hughes
I heard the first oil change on a new car should be done sooner than regular ones.
How soon do you think?
I've had my car for 4 months and 1800+ miles.
William Nelson
Change it now. Should have done it at 1000.
Bentley Hill
Honestly, I wasn't even looking at dealers. Just caught a glimpse of the head light and fog light at the very back of the lot. Turned around and went back to look. Drove it around a while, it ran great and everything worked. Checked the underside for rust, then told the guy to hang out for a few minutes (it was closing time) then went and got cash. Whole thing took about 45 minutes and it was mine. Only issue in a year was the heater core leaking, $60 part and two hours in my garage to fix that.
Andrew Barnes
>should I tape the glass? no that will make it easier to bust out again as it will come out in one piece

Got into an argument the other day regarding parking.
I put the car in neutral and set the parking brake whilst the other guy switches into first gear without parking brake. This is all on leveled ground. So my question is, what do you guys do? Any negative effects of doing one or the other?
Julian Bennett
I leave my car in gear b/c my parking brake is shit. I still set it tho. >double your insurance the parking brake can fail and trannies can pop out of gear
Isaac Adams
>the barking brake can fail
Yeah, I'm aware of that, but considering if you were to get your car bumped while it was parked in gear, can there be any problems with transmission?
Juan Richardson
nah, it would probably break the diff. or lose traction first >diff. breakage would probably happen at speeds considered more than a bump (25 mph+)
James Martin
I've a 1993 ferd mustang LX with fading black trim.
how do i make that look go-od again? primer and clearcoat?
Dominic Nguyen
any engine savy anons who might be able to tell me what this part is called? It seems to mount up where a normal transmision would, and even seems to have a "small oil pan". This engine is made for a generator that mounts onto truck trailers wich transport frozen goods. Any ideas?
Wyatt Mitchell
Dumb novice DIY maintenance guy here, so I have several questions because I'm not sure if they are related.
-Popping open my hood, i've noticed that the valve cover gets dirty extremely easy and it almost looks wet with oil. Could a valve gasket cover job be in my future?
-To follow up, I checked my engine oil level. It's normal, but slightly above the HIGH line. Is it bad to have slightly too much oil than low? Could it be that I overfilled on oil slightly which is causing my valve cover to get dirty? Or do they just do that?
Wyatt Young
So while troubleshooting my faulty ignition switch, my ignition wire got super hot and melted all its insulation+ the insulation of a close wires as well.
The under-dash wire loom costs $800 which is fucking retarded, but I've never done any electrical work short of hooking up a stereo. I've got about 2.5 ft of wire loom looking like pic related, does anyone know how to go about fixing this?
If anyone has a sub-$100 solution, send me ur address and ill suck ur dick
Luke Perez
I also trimmed off all the original electrical tape, which is what that remaining gummy black stuff around the burn is.
Benjamin Rogers
>nah, it would probably break the diff. or lose traction first
alright, so the general consensus is to leave it in gear and set the parking break?

I have a 2016 WRX, and am thinking about having the windows tinted. However, the factory glass has a slight tint to it already. Is the factory glass itself tinted, or is it a film like aftermaret tint is? If it is a film, would it need to be removed before applying new film?
Zachary Myers
First of all, find the short that caused the problem and fix it. Then cut out the burned sections of wire and solder (or butt connect) them back with new sections. Or find a junkyard and get the harness for pennies.
Samuel Ortiz
You just cut out the sections of bad wire and splice new wire in. It's really simple in concept, it lust might be a pain in the ass to actually do depending on how the wire you have to replace is routed.
Josiah Wright
Pretty much what this guy said
Get a spool of stranded wire from somewhere, 12 gauge would probably work fine. Buy a packet or two of crimp connectors. Cut out the nasty bits, splice color to color. Heat shrink or electrical tape over the end product.
If you want to make sure the wire never shorts in that area again, use 10 gauge wire instead, and the rest of the harness will become the failure point.
Ryan Mitchell
Thank you all for the feedback. Ill try to find out where i can buy high heat wire and the specific connectors. As far as finding shorts go, it's just a visual inspection for bare wire right?
Camden Bailey
It can be a simple obvious short, or a gremlin inside the harness. If you can get your hands on a handheld AM radio they are amazing at finding shorts. Just set it between stations, slowly move it along the harness, and listen for interference.
Robert Ross
I would need power to the harness for that though, wouldn't I?
Jack Barnes
If it's shorting out it's flowing power.
Easton Miller
Yeah, but I mean in order to troubleshoot it with an AM radio, id need to turn the power back on?
That's not really an option due to the fact that it'll just reheat up and continue melting, causing further damage.
Daniel Martinez
If it's that bad something is really fucked, and should be pretty easy to find. Wish I could help further, but I'd have to be there. Good luck, chum.
Eli Turner
Can a warped head cause overheating but not cause antifreeze to mix with oil, or cause steam to come out the back?
Carter Fisher
Yes. Longer answer, yess. The coolant goes out instead of in.
