The aero for the factory WRC teams is now as ridiculous as it was in the FIA Group B era. And the cars have been much faster than Group Bs were since the late 1990s. Will the WRC finally end up being a successful series? Will people start to give a shit about rally? They have the best drivers in the world, the best roads in the world, and possibly the most advanced cars in the world.
Maybe more people will pay attention to WRC if the cars were derived from more interesting or exotic cars rather than economy shitboxes.
Robert Lopez
they just share the name and some visual feature it's not the same car at all
Alexander Stewart
>similar to the road car Name one person willing to spend $300,000 on a road going hatchback
I'll wait.
If you want road going rally cars, the WRC has that with Group N. They all race at the same event.
Michael Baker
quads confirm
Hunter Bailey
Spectator got hit and died on the first stage today. Return of Group B?
Henry Russell
Post your carfu
Evan Brown
Shit i didn't even realize the season started this weekend. Stage 1 cancelled after a massive shunt and a spectator fatality. This is exactly what the FIA was worried about.
group b got memed into wrc2017 just like trump got memed into becoming the president
too bad group b was stupid
Henry Hall
yeah it's really bad luck the dude literally fell between the car and a hard place
Mason Miller
VOD? Can't find any.
Connor Jenkins
do you mean this ? of if you're talking about the full race i don't know where you can watch that shit on the internet
Andrew Rivera
i would pay to see rally with F1 cars
Isaac Hall
I think you're looking for the buggy class in the Baja 1000.
Tho just putting 33" tires on an otherwise normal competition F1 car and sending it off road would be pretty fun to watch.
Daniel Reyes
oh fuck watched it several times and didn't realise there was a person there
Christopher Murphy
Fuck off rally shits, most advanced cars go to F1
Jack Reed
You and me both know that's not how any of this works
Kevin James
Uh, but you see goyim, the greatest yeaes in WRC have been about shitboxes. Mini? Shitbox. Renault 5? Shitbox. Lancia Delta? Shitbox. Rover Metro? Shitbox. Peugeot 205? Shitbox. Impreza? Shitbox. Corolla? Shitbox. Escort? Shitbox. Focus? Shitbox. C4? Shitbox.
Maybe the only notable exception is the Lancia Stratos but, besides that, WRC is for shitboxes turned up to 11. The Impreza and Lancers would've never had their WRX/Evolution variants to separate them from the early shitboxes they were without the WRC.
Henry Rodriguez
Even Pike's Peak unlimited class cars look akin to compact shitboxes because guess what, rally cars tend to be small and compact, as a short wheelbase is advantageous and you need lots of suspension travel. Admittedly it'd be kinda cool if there was no requirement for WRC cars to be based on production models, but given the performance restrictions I doubt production compacts pose much of a hindrance.
Ryder Richardson
Group B was successfull because it had homologation specials for people to wank over, that's it. Today's cars are noticeably faster than Group B cars, while having almost half the power.
Gr B cars were rockets that go super fast on the straights and then struggled like hell to take turns because there is only so much power you can add to a car before it starts being uncontrollable on anything but a straight line. It was a glorified dick lenght contest: big numbers, extreme aero, lots of dead people.
If today's WRC had homologation specials, I bet everyone but the most hardcore nostalgic would forget Gr B even existed in the blink of an eye.
Christopher Perry

ffs if a car was going to go off thats exactly where it would go. dont sit there
Nicholas Cruz
>look ma i posted it again
Isaiah Brooks
So what, do you prefer to see corvette laptimes for the millionth times?
I'm trying to have a conversation here, my point being that Gr B is only famous for muh feels and because of homologation specials, but modern WRC cars surpass them in pretty much every aspect except raw power numbers
Bentley Cox
how does one get into rally sport? where do you watch it for example?
Xavier Scott
sadly this is how scientific advancement works in real life, eventually people will find what is the most efficient and cheap design and go with it
Xavier Flores
You could have at least written it over instead of copy pasting it and i like both cars so i dont care.
One of the reasons people like group b is the implementation of new technologies that were relatively simple to understand thus appealing to a wide audience. Most people can understand twin charging but if you try to explain the minutia the use to get power out of modern engines it goes a bit too deep for most people. Additionally most people reflect on it as a representation of an era with reduced safety regulations and less restrictive technical regulations. Whether or not the cars are fast or the risk is greater doesn't matter, people just want to feel that there is a real risk. That is the key to the continued popularity of the IOMTT for example
i dont even disagree with you its just that ive seen it damn near word for word before
Josiah Brooks
>modern WRC >no one fucking watches or cares about it
>but th-they're faster >muh FWD hatches >muh loeb dick in the ass
Dominic Gomez

Joshua Morales
>how to instantly make rally racing more interesting in the modern era ban forced induction now you have to choose between compact design and power, and suddenly cars that aren't the smallest hatchbacks in the world start making sense
Jace Reed
That's exactly what I said, nobody cares about it because they "only" have 300+ hp and there are no homologation specials for them so everyone is wanking over Gr B because oh my god someone can totally drive those things up the streets and they have those earth shattering 600hp and everyone pretends they are the fastest rally car ever
Anthony Morris
>Most people can understand twin charging but if you try to explain the minutia the use to get power out of modern engines it goes a bit too deep for most people. It's not like Gr B engines were street engines with a turbo and a supercharger slapped on them, they were deeply modified just like modern engines are, albeit with different tech involved. Trying to explain a gr.B engine to someone who knows next to nothing about engines will be just as difficult.
>Additionally most people reflect on it as a representation of an era with reduced safety regulations and less restrictive technical regulations. Yeah, the only thing I can concede here is that the public was much more involved, but that doesn't really depend on the cars, just the mindset of who was making the rules at the time.
>Whether or not the cars are fast or the risk is greater doesn't matter, people just want to feel that there is a real risk. People are dying in and out of rally cars even today, it's not that rallying became a safe sport.
We can have the same argument over GT1 cars, same legendary aura because of homologation specials, same worshipping them as the fastest and most advanced rockets on the planet today, yet they were slower and weren't even GTs
Connor Ramirez
Why would banning turbos prevent them from using small cars? Even if they bump the displacement back to 2.0L or even a little more, they won't start using bigger chassis because of that.
You have to change a ton of rules and actually force teams to use bigger cars before anyone would be interested in using heavier chassis over proven and used small and light chassis
Joseph Scott
to get 300+ horsepower NA they're going to need more than a 2.0L fourpot, and transverse engine compartments really can't hold anything much bigger with the design they have so either they go bigger or they start getting creative with the way they design their cars, both being more interesting than what we have now
Nolan Myers
cricfree.sc/motor-sports-live-streaming sport.bt.com/tv-guide-01363810618853 BtSport airs the official 30min review show for each day of the rally. So Day 1 Review should air today. And sometimes they'll do live/hour long coverage from a full stage. Stage 2 replay airs at 6am EST/11 GMT time. It's kind of lame having to watch a shitty stream of BtSport to watch some rally. Broadcasting WRC for tv is kind of tricky because they drive all day. Even one stage takes forever to finish by the time all of the WRC2 cars go. so the review shows for each day are the best option. But they don't give you the sense of how much driving they actually do all day. I'm not sure if the chaos from the first stage cancellation will affect the broadcasts but that's usually how BtSport does it.
Dylan Powell
Or you can pay for a WRC+ subscription on their website but fuck that.
Connor Kelly
I learned about redbull tv is doing some wrc cover, there is one live now, but all I see is talking.
Michael Howard
most people can understand turbo+supercharger = kewl. i think but i suppose if someone doesn't know about this sort of stuff then it'll still be too technical
i think people want to feel like its dangerous. eg mulsanne chicanes make the track a little more interesting imo but dont let anyone here you say that. eg.2 the halo really doesn't make a huge difference in f1 but people will complain if its ever implemented
but yeah i dont disagree that homologation has a lot to do with it i just think there are some other important factors that essential memed it into legendary status
Gavin Perry
The track conditions were crazy with the patches of black ice, snow, and asphalt. It's tough to test the limits of the new machinery in such dangerous conditions. It's going to be more about survival & not crashing out than outright speed. WRC starts their season with the hardest rallies Monte Carlo and Sweden.
Jackson Bell
bump really interested in wrc but idk shit about it
Michael Nguyen
group b was lit and so is trump
Christopher Ortiz
I did and thats how ive been watching. bitrate is so fucking bad, I'm considering asking for a refund. it doesnt even look good in the small window
Connor Garcia
yeah, that is true until you learn about Endurance racing.. and LMP1 category especially. Those things are much less restricted, much more diverse and yet they keep pushing F1 tempo and speeds for up to 24 hours in the longest races of the season...

fukken saved. rally is more exciting now than ever, especially the new 380bhp limit

nice propaganda faggot. blacks everyone turned up cause "WE PRESIDENT NOW" not because of genuine support. Those people didn't even know his platform other than "BLAX IN DA WHITE HOUSE". fuck off >>>/reddit/ >>>/facebook/
Logan Perez
>Ogier over four seconds faster through a two minute stage
This is WRC's real problem: It only has one good driver.
Austin Martin
My point is that people were happy to have Obama as president, and skies that support by clicking to the inauguration. That clearly was not reflected with mr. Trump
Jack Collins
you seem to be in the wrong board. This is an imageboard maintained for the discussion of automobiles. You seem to be mistaken, please take your opinions to reddit.com/r/the_donald/
LMP1 was a boring shitshow and I'm glad it's dying.
Jose Collins
>front runners car dies a mile from the finish line on the last lap of a 24 hour race >would be their first win in decades >boring
It was the most historic 24 hours of Lemans in the longest time
Luis Morgan
That was one race in the whole calendar. The rest were pretty boring.
DPi looks like it will be more interesting.
Anthony Ross
THIS
especially since there's nothing new about group B and everyone has been fapping over the same set of pictures and videoclips for decades now
I still hope M-sport's lack of budget and that all teams are still developing their cars will shake things up from time to time.
Also does anyone know where to watch the recaps from eurosport? I'm never at home when they're on TV

Jace Taylor
damn Thierry. what bad luck. it's just like the vidya.
Landon Jackson
Yup, when I hoped that frenchfag won't dominate everything. Let's hope for sweden.
Ryder Gomez
i wanted to make fun of your idea that ferraris and porsches could run through WRC, but then i remembered that F40 and 959 were meant to be Group B cars.
That being said, 4wd hot hatches are the way. 205 T16 was raping everything else in its times, and Delta was hot hatch as well. It would be exiting to see more differences between cars though, modern technology is so subtle.
Eli Cruz
Wait, was someone actually sitting there? WHAHAHAHAHHAHAH!!! Good riddance.
Michael Hall
Are all this cars FWD? For they go through an AWD modification?
Eh, I don't really care about the american elections and this isn't /pol/ but 1. This perspective takes out empty space 2. Gives the illusion of being more full 3. Even so, the clear patches are somewhat visible if you pay attention to the visual clues
Also, there are time lapse videos from the start to the end, filmed from the back, and they show more accurately the group of people. It certainly wasn't as empty as some say, but it's not like it was filled to the brim as others proclaim.
But again, take this to /pol/.
Logan Stewart
Its neat how competitive the 911 GT3 RSs are in the WRC.
Christian Sullivan
VW's 2017 build couldn't get homologated in time.
Now its a dead project, like the Gruppe S Audi. It likely would have been the fastest car on the field.
>i-it was photoshopped! >lol why are you believing in PBS? literally commie media
Christopher Miller
>Possibly the most advanced cars in the world
These cars are advanced, but nowhere near the space-age tier shit that you find in an LMP1 car
Juan Diaz
it's more subtle advancement. Prototypes can use flashiest technology, but WRC reliability is absolutely staggering. There has to be some serious material technology magic behind fact that those guys just fall out of the track 100kmph, roll over couple of times, and then they go back on the stage and jump on the rocks for next half an hour without breaking the car beyond repair.
Elijah Ward
i'm obviously not trying to say that wrc is actually more advanced than LMP. it's just that wrc is kinda space age as well, although technology is applied tenderly.
Ryder Green
Bootleg stream caps? NFI I can't find last year's anywhere and it was boring anyway
I heard the stream is mega shit bitrate even the official one
Dylan James
I suppose. I mean, on the reliability front, LMP cars run at 250 mph for 24 straight hours and do fine, which takes some serious cooling ingenuity.
Kayden Green

>half hour recap after each day >livestreamed a 10 pm cet (in 2 hours) >all previous recaps can be rewatched anytime >so far adblock is still allowed on the site
Anyone up for a solid 2 hours of WRC action? I sure am.
Cooper Morales
I wish there would be some live chats to streams.
Brayden Reyes
I kinda agree with this, not the economy shitboxes part as that is just some Veeky Forums shit.
I think the reason people liked groub B so much was the cars such as RS200, Lancia Delta Integrale, Audi Quattro etc were all actually a bit special in their normal versions.
Compared to today nobody gives a fuck about a polo or yaris or the citroen and people only really care about the fiesta because the ST is the average persons "goto" hot hatch.
Zachary Evans
I think it would be a bit more interesting if they went with the actual higher range models like the Golf R instead of Polo, Focus RS etc
David Hill
I thought the broadcast media would make a bigger deal about the crash on day 1 and the spectator getting killed. I thought it would be a public relations disaster for the new WRC and some backlash about safety. but it seems like not a big deal.
Aiden White
thank goodness for redbull.tv coverage. it's better than watching some shitty stream of btsport.
Isaiah Diaz
How come the cars only have one paddle for shifting?
Nathaniel Gray
It mimics the sequential shifter used for many years
Thomas Brooks
ausfag here again how the fuck do i watch this without paying for their gay low birate shite?
we should get a Veeky Forums account and share it if possible
