Hey guys, I am an artist interested in experimenting with making a rpg battle scenario using pixel art. I assume any of the engines listed (for 2d) would work fine, but I was curious if any of them were easier than any other, having only a background as an illustrator, not as a programmer. I have no problems taking time to learn, but figured I'd ask just so I don't by chance pick the 'hard mode' choice on accident.
Thanks for the help ahead of time, and sorry for being a faggot.
I'm a SJW but I can't help but hear the chorus as "moe nigga".

What's even the point of that trademark? They spent a bunch of money to claim a crap abbreviation of a concept that greatly predated their software, is used and understood by absolutely everyone in first world countries and is self explanatory even for your 90 year old grandma.
Some people like burning money I guess.

If all you really want to do is make JRPGs, then maybe RPG Maker would be a better choice. You won't have us much freedom as with GM, but it has many already built in features for this specific genre which will let you have results the fastest.

So how do you learn Unity? The documentation is really not helping. Do I want to move my character using Vector.moveTowards? Do I want to use RigidBody and apply forces? Do I want to use Vector.lerp?
There's like 10 things to accomplish the same thing, how do I know which is the right way?

I love the in-universe interface. Nice work. The woman herself is a bit off though. I don't know what about her bothers me but something definitely does.
Alexander Collins
in update you can do whatever
with physics you should use the rigidbody's move functions or forces
If you want to move your character and don't care/want to use rigidbody's physics stuff. Use transform.translate. If you want to use physics use a rigidbody with .addforce or .velocity in (In FixedUpdate).
Movetowards and lerp are only good if you want your target to move towards a predetermined target (e.g. if you were doing a point and click or something).
lrn 2 program then start programming usually you'd at least use a graphics library as a starting point: sdl, sfml, libgdx, etc

you sure you don't want to consider something else? even just having the ability to have layers is immensely helpful, I can tell you. you can put foreground and background stuff in different layers and adjust their position as needed

If you can think of a good top-down action-rpg-ish battle mechanic then I'll do it, knowing that : - a single sword attack sounds boring - a typical 3-hit combos sounds too repetitive

Anyone know of some good side-scrolling platformer shooters with mouse aim?
I'm trying to decide whether to make a twin stick shooter or a side scrolling platformer-shooter (with mouse aim). The super cool ideas-guy gimmicks I have in mind would work equally well with both styles of shooter, but a side-scroller would probably be a lot more manageable asset-wise for a 1MA non-artist.
Thing is, I can't really think of any good side scrolling shooters that use free aim and in fact all the best ones I can think of use the run'n'gun arcade stick controls like Metal slug; which is not the style of gameplay I want to go with.
