They sit, typically forever, until a friend of a friend is looking for something and the guy suddenly decides to take 1/4 of what they're asking for it.
Know a guy that got that kind of a deal, bought a modded 3000GT VR4 for $2500, simply because the owner was sick of it being yard art. Runs and drives fine and is even decently quick, though the paint is cheap and flaking and some of the side molding is falling off.
