Oh nice I live in FL too just on the Panhandle, but yea Orlando has a big car scene and finding one isn't difficult just make sure to run a few tests on it before considering buying it or else it could be a pain to make it decent again

as someone with some first-hand experience maybe I can shed a little light.

in 2009 I traded a bolt-on 2004 Mustang GT for a 50 trim turbo, E85-tuned, cammed, built engine, built trans 2005 SRT4. it was black with Viper seats, incredibly clean, and I took it out for a rip and was immediately blown away by the power.

fast forward two weeks and I hated everything about it but the power even though that was getting to me as well. with the biggest tire I could put on it without rolling the fenders I was spinning at 65mph. it had more squeaks and rattles than my '97 Grand Cherokee with 300k on it. it was so fucking loud I had to have the stereo at 75% volume just to hear it cruising down the highway. it was the most uncomfortable suspension I've ever been on. and I think even the Mustang handled better. and the lack of cruise control and rear power windows was just ridiculous.

but man oh man, I could confuse some Corvette owners with that car.

Honestly I don't know why there's such a hate on this board for this particular car, personally I believe its Honda owners and I say that as a Honda owner myself. The acr and even stock srt4 handle very well

I think I got it in April, put it in winter storage in October and then sold it before the nice weather came again. so I guess I only drove it for a summer. I averaged less than 20mpg but that was a reflection of my driving habits. I hated driving it so I just beat the piss out of it whenever I could. I put it on craigslist for a hilariously high price shortly after I bought it knowing someone would be dumb enough to pay it at some point and I was right. then I went and bought a Subaru STI that was equally disappointing.

I have a FiST and it's pretty amazing all around, much more than the SRT4 buy it's all personal preference

I'm kind of in that situation with my speed3. The power is great and it surprises the fuck out of people but constantly fighting the wheel hop when I want to get on it is a little annoying, even after a really stiff rear motor mount. Also if I say "I have a mazdaspeed 3" for some reason people lack the ability to hear the "speed" part and go "lol you got a mazda 3? That's not fast". I've even had people convinced I made my own badge for it and that mazdaspeed is a made up thing. They google it then go "oh wow nvm!"

Also of any turbo i4 car I've ever worked on the srt4 is by far the easiest with the most room to maneuver in the engine bay

Actually it's more powerful than focus st, but the handling leaves something to be desired so on a track a st might have its number. Also it's a bit more tricky to drive the speed3, I test drove both before getting the speed3 and the focus was like...a timid little bitch compared to the speed. Overall, definitely agree though on the speed3 being better value, since they both have enough aftermarket support for that to be negligible (and obviously share some parts, since you're right about them being about the same car).

If you do end up getting one, the 04 is the best year, 245 whp 245 wtq, upgraded axles, LSD, and bigger fuel injectors. The 03 lacks all that and the 05 has it but also has a very finicky ecu that doesn't take to mods as well as it should

Are you stock? I'm sitting at 300whp in it right now so it's a little more aggressive off the launch, spins into third. It's not like the wheel hop is so insane that something seems broken. It just feels like if I hit the slightest bump or let the wheel go a little bit, I might send it into a ditch.

Preventative maintenance is key on these neons, first thing I did after getting mine was changing the clutch, while the engine was out I had the head serviced back to spec, replaced all vacuum lines, replaced the fuel pressure regulator (with filter), oil and filter obviously...more but I can't remember right now

Yeah so I've heard, honestly none of that is surprising to me and one of my good friends is a Dodge mechanic, so I know I'd be able to replace/change/clean things as needed right away and not have to drag on anything
Pretty much had to change out everything on my suburban aside from clutch as that beast is an auto

Some things to look out for when buying
Turbo chra wobble (,take intake off wiggle chra)
Axles (lift car in gear and spin wheels listen for clunking or up and down movement from axles)
The stock boost gauge always fuckin breaks have never seen a stocker make it this long
Tie rod ends
The rear sway bars can get slack in them causing negative camber on back wheels (tighten them to the marks or use a slightly thicker screw)
Wheel bearings lol (front)
Motor mounts
The trannys are probably the worst thing about an srt4 but they're not bad compared to other cars
Watch out for 3rd gear popout (worn or bent 3\4 shift fork) and the infamous TOB which can be repaired by doing forums.neons.org/viewtopic.php?t=379473
There's more as with any fast car but these are some basics

Ect. If a car fits exactly what you're looking for and you take care of it I promise you'll be happy with it. However if you're still shopping around for possible altervatives, check out 3000gts (basically neon but mits badged), vr4 or normal, eagle talon turbo, old eclipses ect. Those fulfill similar roles to the neon and shouldn't cost an arm and a leg.

The gauge SHOULD be changed as it only goes to 20psi and you ideally want it to show -30/30

If you get one adding over 100 whp is as simple as getting 1000cc injectors, a 255 lph walbro fuel pump and doing a fuel pump rewire (the factory gauge wire is too thin look it up) you'll sit pretty at around 325 who 360 wtq. In fact, fuck it here
