/sthg/ #692 - Nutting Eggman Edition
>Link CompilationDrawfag/Writefag Idea WallsNews/Developments
Makes the Steam version of Sonic Adventure less shit by reverting it to the older PC port and includes a mod loader.
There's been some breakthroughs in modding recently. The lighting system from the Dreamcast version has been ported over. youtube.com/watch?v=8uNsTXIzgGI
Cameron Jackson
I want to see a Knife fight between Sonic and Tails hitting each others hands like they did in Night in the Woods youtube.com/watch?v=ncY0-EoQLFM
Crimes
Maybe better off having Fang/Nack and Bean doing the Knifing instead?
Luke Bennett
ok
Gavin Wright
I'm gonna give Bump a gun!
Leo Miller
Ya'know, Sonic isn't really that fast.
Nathaniel Perez
>Eggman AND nutting This thread will be good
Justin Torres
It's probably gonna be super cringey and terrible, don't waste your time or effort
Julian Ward
That's why I'm making it, user, BECAUSE it's super cringey and terrible.
Henry Stewart
I WANNA HUG STATION SQUARE
Jason Brown
Do it but do it well
Grayson Williams
This. If he's so fast how come he hasn't caught Eggman yet?
Hudson Sanders
ironic shit is still shit, you cockgobbling retard
Blake Morgan
I have a whole team planning and conceptualizing it with me so it won't be a one-man deal. It's gunna have Bump in it, too.
Robert Scott
great, now it's gonna be even worse. good job, retard
Lincoln White
I think doing this with Sage/Bump would be a better idea.... I don't think Sonic and Tails would knife each other.
Jace Martin
epic troll bro then you'll have no excuses spriting isn't hard, that's why Tumblr loves it
Isaac Watson
So far the project includes over 750 characters and around 1,500 sprite sheets
Dominic Wright
>spriting isn't hard It isn't when you don't have to create animated sprites.
Owen Sanchez
Stop shilling your garbage here sprite-user. It takes zero skill period. Just time
Robert Barnes
>It takes zero skill period >I have no idea what I'm talking about and I am silly!
Alexander Sullivan
You fucking criminal scum!
Julian Jenkins
>There will never be a new 3D game after '17 with Sonic, Tails, Amy, and Knuckles as playable characters.
Ryder Parker
>Amy opinion discarded. She was the worst playstyle in advance 1
Jose Williams
It takes skill and time, it's pretty and you need to know how to draw, but that's it. You can't have problems with spriting when you know your anatomy, good levels/coloring and how placing a center of gravity. I tried it last year and it's surprisingly fun
But if you can't even sprite, you either have zero art training or are irremediably incompetent.
Noah Ortiz
Good
Ayden Richardson
thunderbolt is so fucking difficult
Nolan Reyes
What is this shit taste?
Tyler Ross
Doesn't everything hard take time?
Aiden Powell
We don't want a million different playstyles and friends shitting it up again, is that so wrong?
Austin Rodriguez
Sonic fans like you is why the only playable character we'll ever get other than sonic is..another sonic..downsized.
Benjamin Harris
shows what you know, I want another playable Silver
Logan Johnson
What is some people's problem with Spark of Life, exactly? I'm far from a Nicolefag (Much like Rotor I just didn't care much for her pre-reboot) but I've read this arc at least twice and I thought it was pretty interesting and great on its own. My only frustration was that Phage kind of felt like wasted potential and Nicole sort of ended her immediately after going super, but otherwise I actually really liked her here, and her story with Dr. Ellidy.
Luke Baker
multiple playable characters =/= completely different play styles.
Robert Miller
So you want Sonic 3D World?
That idea could be done in a future game.
Hunter Reed
That's not really a bad thing. Sonic's the main character, and there's two versions of him running around, so why not have the other if you need another playable character
Jack Perez
Do you remember me? Capture you or set you free
Jordan Morales
Even better than shitty friends, meet the shitty recolors. In terms of autism, Nintendo set the bar very high
Adam Wilson
That artist has never been able to draw mobians right, especially the torsos.
Oliver Miller
yeah sure, it would feel like a lost saturn game. being 3D with a 2D attitude, and I know there is a classic sonic hack of this.
Dominic Barnes
Yeah..let's just make all the games like this, water down Sonic's large character base; forgetting them completely. Two Sonic's: A Journey to Nostalgia Featuring 5 future sequels.
Jack King
do you think they could manage making 'universal' levels, i mean a level made for sonic but would also work for amy, shadow, tails and knuckles.
like heroes or 3&K?
but even if they pulled it off people mind call it repetitive and/or lazy.
Nolan Cook
Because you can get rid of the entire arc and nothing significant changes. We're told Nicole is supposed to be a neural net to save Nikki, but instead of doing anything with that interesting we're immediately told that it means nothing, that Nicole is a separate individual, and that information is completely irrelevant. We're introduced to Phage but aside from learning she's a program under Eggman's control (total shocker right?) we know nothing about her. Ellidy and Sally get into a fight over whether Nicole is a person but that's completely hollow because everyone else we've met so far treats Nicole as a person, so Ellidy just comes across as an uppity curmudgeon. The only thing of note the arc does is introduce the Red Star Rings and Overclocked Nicole but she does nothing to actual earn that upgrade, it's as simple as "Sally inserts a different ring." Most other arcs usually set something up regarding the overarching plot in addition to having their own self-contained plots, but Spark of Life does nothing, no development is made, and it generally just feels like filler.
Noah Edwards
Couldn't you say the same about stuff like Waves of Change?
Luis Morris
What issue is this in? It gives Sally and Nicole some character. I'm fine with it.
Leo Reyes
Wouldn't be such a bad thing. Sonic nowadays is fueled by nostalgia, might as well milk it for all it's worth. Kinda hoping 2017 just mashes together old levels, so they're technically new, but it's stuff like Rooftop Plant or Seaside Planet
Levi Wilson
Someone in the last thread wrote an excellent post about the use of nostalgia in the boost games. It was written by a classic-purest but he had some very fair perspectives on why boost games Should not be using classic sonic anymore.
Joshua Davis
Waves of Change sets things up for later arcs in addition to telling its own self-contained 4-part story. Champions does the same. It'd have been great of the rest of the Unleashed adaptation was like that. But Spark of Life sets up pretty much nothing that couldn't be explained in one panel. "Who's Phage? A program under command of Eggman." "What's Overclocked Nicole? Nicole with a Red Star Ring." It just feels like filler; it doesn't even resolve any plot points aside from the ones that were brought up in the arc itself.
Oliver Richardson
I AM ALL, I AM ALL OF ME
Charles Wood
You don't really need a write-up. "Boost games should stop using Classic Sonic because Mania already exists and there are at least three other characters who can be added instead who fit the boost gameplay and that's without handwaving anyone."
Brody Green
And so did SoL. It established a minor villain, a new type of power up, and some backstory for a character along with a new character.
Kayden Powell
We know nothing about Phage after SoL other than she exists. Overclocked Nicole is just someone putting a Red Star Ring in the handheld. Nicole's backstory is completely meaningless outside of that arc, as is the existence of Ellidy.
Kayden Taylor
How do I git gud at Tail's Adventure?
Xavier Diaz
play as Sonic
Luis Thomas
>setup only matters when I like it Nah, kid. We actually know a lot about Phage compared to a lot of the other egg bosses, OC Nicole has not been fully explored at all, and it's "meaningless" because they haven't been used again yet? lmao
Chase Anderson
...
Matthew Bell
Cuties
Dylan Reyes
A number of your complaints are pretty valid, but I don't think it being "filler" is an issue - it's evident that this arc exists just to shed some light on Nicole's origins as of the reboot.
The arc expands on and provides some fine characterization for Nicole and Sally, which I thought was cool. We learn several things, and the way we learn them is interesting enough. Nicole clearly harbors some frustration towards who she once was. Her creator evidently had an entirely different purpose in mind for her. In this arc we gain an insight into the way she sees herself among her friends and the events leading up to her growth, and learn that she became who she was in part because of her care for Sally. And towards the end we see she has some sort of guilt about the whole ordeal.
Backstory isn't "meaningless", and characterization isn't either, because it offers a new perspective in which we may view a character. The character doesn't always need to change, but our perception of them can. In the main series, we've seen Nicole often by Sally's side to comfort her, and there was also a moment where Nicole thanked Sally for reminding her about the greater things in the world. Before this arc we wouldn't have totally understood why they always seemed to stick so close, or why Nicole seems to occasionally "struggle" with her ability to feel, but now we have a much better idea of what makes her tick and her relationship with Sally.
I'm sure a large portion of the frustration with this arc may come from the fact that this is meant to be a reboot, and if anyone has read the preboot comics then they'd know what to expect with Nicole. But from the standpoint in which we are MEANT to view the story (that is, from #252 onwards we know very little about these characters, just that they're in a fighting crew with Sonic), it does its job well in giving insight on the walking talking gameboy who we always see with Sally.
Cooper Long
>SO-RAY!
Noah Martinez
People forget that everyone in nu252 is a different character. It's not just the people that got pendered that we lost. We lost EVERYONE. The Sonic in nu252 is a different person than the preboot sonic.
Cooper Lopez

Camden Lewis
What if Sticks was male?
Ryder Hernandez
This is why they should have just definitively ended the previous comic run and started a new series from issue 1 instead of them half-ass crossing the old continuity into the new one.
Jonathan Morgan
>Backstory isn't "meaningless", and characterization isn't either, because it offers a new perspective in which we may view a character. Here's the thing though, we're immediately told in the arc itself that the backstory which is set up by the arc is completely irrelevant because it doesn't change who Nicole is as a person. We got relevant character development in The Light In The Dark. We got Nicole's relevant backstory in her origins issue. There is absolutely nothing in Spark of Life that's relevant to Nicole's characterization or development outside of the arc itself, and that's why it's filler.
Jace Kelly
I've been saying this for a while now. I understand the argument: It's a nice nod to the fans of comic that have been there the whole time. But you know what would have been a better nod? Giving the freedom fighters a happy ending, restoring Sally, and Eggman being defeated.
I don't see the problem with that panel. It has nice background information.
Parker Adams
>But you know what would have been a better nod? Giving the freedom fighters a happy ending, restoring Sally, and Eggman being defeated. Sadly you couldn't do that because they had to reboot
Joshua Phillips
Favorite final boss theme?
Owen Miller
Did you somehow forget the pages of information pertaining to Sally and Nicole's relationship before she became sentient? The scene where she comes to life and asks to see the stars with Sally? The parts where she's openly talking to Ellidy about how she can't see her old self the same way? The origin comic didn't cover that. These are portions of her character.
Cameron Turner
>I don't see the problem with that panel. It has nice background information. Because it's just fluff. Does it actually change anything about Nicole that she was originally the neural net that was supposed to save Nikki? No, it doesn't, and that page very clearly says so. That information could simply not exist whatsoever and Nicole would be no different as a character.
Matthew Turner
They could have easily done all that with the time they spent on the mega man crossover.
William Barnes
I made this graphic to ask about how people would want sonic games to be structured, I can already guess what people would prefer.
Camden Gutierrez
Yeah, but Collide was pretty much happening no matter what.
Mason Evans
Honestly she should've just been Nikki. Would've made a lot more of an impact and been a more interesting direction
Ryan Miller
>I understand the argument: It's a nice nod to the fans of comic that have been there the whole time. But you know what would have been a better nod? Giving the freedom fighters a happy ending, restoring Sally, and Eggman being defeated. The problem there is that Eggman wasn't the only active plot point at the time. The super genesis wave was a lazy resolution, but it did effectively wrap up/end EVERYTHING. If you were to just end the comic instead with Eggman being defeated and sally becoming organic again, you've still got let open and unresolved the following stories: >Scourge and the Destructive scheming >Evil Tails and Evil Sally scheming >Finitivus scheming >Naughs is still king of Metropolis Even if they canceled or delayed world's collide, they wouldn't have been able to finish that all up... at least probably.
Benjamin Smith
2 is the best. 3 is a decent alternative. 1 is shit.
Owen White
Solution 2, and I cannot see how anyone can like the Sonic series and answer one of the other two.
William Wright
Solution 2 is all I want in Sonic games
Zachary Harris
Honestly they could have just had all the existing villains join up with Eggman for one final invasion jamboree. Hell, that's basically what Worlds Collide was, just with Mega Man shit.
Carter Reyes
>The scene where she comes to life and asks to see the stars with Sally? We basically got the same thing in Waves of Change's backup, except it was a thing that actually happened during the story instead of having to dedicate pages to flashbacks.
Nathan Wilson
He would dress up in more than a cut up sack?
Caleb Russell
Problem was, the lawsuit was happening in real time, so you could've maybe had Naugus show up, and that's about it. Again, you couldn't have wrapped everything up pre-WC because the lawsuit renders most o the characters involved in the ongoing narrative unusable
Ryan Young
I thought that as was making it, its basically the Heroes formula
I guess solution 3 would be preferable if you wanted them to play it safe (or have little faith in them) or they were setting up a new gameplay style.
Jason White
/sthg/ I beseech you. Recommend some Sonic Hacks for me to stream. Burnt out on the official games for now. Preferably ones that work with SEGA MegaDrive Collection. But at this point I will try any.
Bonus:You can recommend any SEGA Genesis title that is in the collection for me to stream too.
Lincoln Morgan
Glad to see he looks different enough from Sticks
Parker Garcia
Solution 2 falls apart if the other gameplay styles are too divergent from Sonic's, such as in Adventure 2. 1 and 3 are both acceptable.
>vc: Sonic Ave
Jack Ward
But the scene in Spark of Life served to help establish what caused her to want her physical form in the first place. Sally played a key role in her growth. The other flashbacks show Sally's struggles and experiences and how Nicole was there and attentive for it all.
Nicci is quite literally the reason Nicole even exists in the first place. If there's going to be a walking talking computer woman in the series, as a reader I would indeed like to know how she came about.
Mason Gonzalez
Then don't make them too different. Instead of the Boost, Tails can fly and Knuckles can glide and climb.
Caleb Clark
It's almost as if, and I'm just throwing this out there, we have a game that perfectly demonstrates this...
Michael Sullivan
>But the scene in Spark of Life served to help establish what caused her to want her physical form in the first place. Sally played a key role in her growth. The scenes in "Light in the Dark" did the same thing through implication. By seeing Nicole reminded of "what it's like to live" we realize why she wanted a physical form in the first place, for the same reason.
>Nicci is quite literally the reason Nicole even exists in the first place. If there's going to be a walking talking computer woman in the series, as a reader I would indeed like to know how she came about. Someone decided to make a computer assistant for Sally, the end.
I feel that if Light In The Dark was expanded to a full 4-part arc it would accomplish everything that Spark Of Life was supposed to do in a better way. You don't need convoluted backstories that just amount to fluff or pages full of flashbacks in order to tell an effective story.
Austin Sullivan

Jordan Jones
>Sonic Fastest Insta-shield Super peel out
>Tails Flying
>Knuckles Can't jump as high Gliding Punches through walls
Basically S3&K but remove spindash and make Sonic faster than the others.
Owen Clark
2. If it worked for Shovel Knight it can work for Sonic.
Logan Baker
>In terms of autism, Nintendo set the bar very high have you played Color Splash?
Easton Sanchez
better that is an issue with 3D desu. Tails and knuckles can just fly/glide over the level, making it pointless to a degree.
you could always have high walls/obstacles to restrict movement, I think sonic 06 was going for this approach.
Levi Ramirez
Agreed. There's a hack for S3&K that removes spin dash and it makes the game a lot more fun. Having to build up speed first makes it more strategic.
