I don't know shit about Subarus

I don't know shit about Subarus.
Is $2,000 a good price for this '96 Impreza with 74k miles?
I just want out of my money pit Audi

no. subarus are shit. just get a civic.

74k is pretty low, I would jump on it just to rip it apart and make it an open light class rally car.

No

2k is a great price. You can do a lot worse considering the average $3k civic has 2-3 times that mileage and most likely poorly modified. Also, the Subaru offers awd, and a drive train that can be upgraded.

Does it have a desirable engine in it?

why the fuck not? if you can only spend 2k on a car you're obviously a poorfag so why would you want a hard to diy, unreliable one with a meme engine?

What are you on about?
Where did you get that I can only afford 2k?
That's simply the asking price.
Plus I already said I'm trying to get rid of a fucking Audi.

because if you could afford more than 2k you'd get a different car?

Yeah, and if my grandmother had two wheels, she'd be a bike.
What's your point?

The amount of subaru hate on this board disgusts me, it's always the shitbox memelords too

That is a good price for that car

LOL

As for your OP, if it's the 2.2L, its definitely worth it. If it's 2.5, be wary of headgaskets leaking and that's about it.

Man I love those bug eyed ones.

spoken like someone who's never owned a subaru

its a great price op, just check for rust. its what usually does them in (they rust out BAD at the rear 1/4s/rockers). for $2000 i wouldn't hesitate at all.

I thought Subarus were Australian until last year.
They just really give off an Australian vibe for some reason.
Or maybe I'm just fucking retarded.

stupid civic cuck

might as well get a corolla

Nah, I agree

Just look at the logo and compare it to the Aus flag, plus their heavy focus on offroading

Civic is more fun than a corolla.

Assmad Subaru fangirl BTFO

subaru is more fun than civic

see what i did?

Cylinder head gaskets. Learn about them on Subarus. Then think about it.

No its not. It's a boring awd econobox.

how is it an econobox

>No its not. It's a boring awd econobox
Because a boring fwd econobox is better

Econoboxes are supposed to cost as little as possible and the awd system adds complexity. The flat engine costs more to repair than a normal inline 4 because everything is harder to get to.

Who cares, OP wants something fun to drive. Guaranteed that impreza shitbox is more fun to drive than a shitty civic hatch

this

it may be slow but at least you can get it sideways when it snows

Subarus are popular as fuck here in ausland.
Subaru even made the outback for us, and look its a great car like any other subie

>besides the gearbox
>old mashed subie gearbox feels like youre shifting a hotdog

RS's are everywhere in Australia. Why do you guys like them so much?

>hard to diy
No, in fact Subarus are Legos so everything fits everything else and it's all right on top of the engine. Go work on one before spreading this bullshit claim.
>unreliable
It's a 2.2, you can't kill one of those. They routinely go 400k+ and several have seen 600k.

I dont personally like them, and they arent "everywhere" the cheapest one on carsales is still 8500 AUD ( about 6500 USD)
People here like them because they have status here. Alot of australian car guys will stick to holdens and fords because theyre cheap, have good power, rwd and parts are litterally sprinkled on median strips.
people like the subarus because they are different but still have agressive styling and power, but they dont really fit in with other japanese cars ( civics, skylines, celicas, soarers) that are popular here.

I think the subaru wrxs and similar are like the bridge between bogan car culture of holden and ford, and newer japanese car culture of the youth in australia.

that said, i really like forresters and outbacks, and would like one to drive around australia in.

>6500 USD for an RS

Fug m8. GC8 STIs are like 7000-8000 CAD here.

6500 gets you a shitty one with faded paint and over 150k and engine problems. 2.5rs coupes are heavily taxed

Yep, thats australia for you.

I saw a beautiful clean Civic SI go for 5k here, and it was worth it.
beat up modified civics still go for around 3-4.5 k depending on condition.

I believe the reason is if you want something thats fun and ISNT a holden commodore, then youre gonna have to pay a tofu tax.

burger here, what's wrong with holden? roasting tires on the cheap sounds pretty good

nothing wrong with them, just they arent to everyones taste.
Most of the cheap ones are fairly beat up from 28 teenagers roasting tyres before you.|

You can find some grandpa spec one owner since new ones, but expect old Mario to ask for big bux and call it a classic.

Only commodore i would buy would be the VS SS, in my opinion it has the best styling. All the other ones look kinda shitty compared to Japanese cars.

>have to jack up the engine to change the spark plugs

No you don't. You remove the battery, washer fluid tank, and the air filter housing. It's all of like 6 bolts. Big whoop.

And that's just DOHC models, the SOHC cars have the spark plugs right next to the intake runners on the top of the engine.

t. I have actually done spark plugs on my own Subaru before and it wasn't hard.

Not bad, i got a 1998 legacy gt twin turbo for 2900 usd (converted)

The price in usd

Jesus Christ I'm fucking jealous. Can't have those here in burgerland and my 98 Legacy with 165hp was only $1k less.

Gross. I had an outback a few years ago, trash car. My current vehicle requires removing nothing but the spark plug lugs because I run unshielded RF blasting cables to fuck with moderncucks car's electronics when I veeyate near them.

I have a 2005 Outback. Wish I had never bought a boxer engine. It lost both head gaskets under 80K miles and I had to take the engine out to fix them.
