this will be my first car btw so I want the most reliable out of these(considering they are in good shape from prev owners)

german cars are the PC of gaming world

I'm looking for a new (used) car, for around 12k or less.
Would it be dumb of me to get a 2008 BMW over a 2012 Volkswagen for the same price?

go with a newer vw. it won't dissapoint. also people won't think you are a jerk, driving in a muslim carriage.

you can probably even find better equipped 2k12 vws than 09 bmw for the same price

I really want to put a Jetta front on a Golf.
It looks fairly good.

Go and test drive them and make the decision yourself

i only driven a w123 2 years ago learned manual with it so everything will feel good for me I guess
Im just asking hypothetically if they were properly maintained from previous owner and they have no problems and I also take care of them regularly which will break the less randomly and be more reliable? Or will all be pretty much the same?

I'm not too familiar with diesel reliability, but you should definitely check recalls on each of the models and be familiar with the model of car too. Obviously Mercedes parts will probably cost more than BMW part which should cost more than VW parts but that's just for the US afaik

they cost less in Albania the problem is I wouldn't want them to break at all so no need to buy parts. Thats what im aiming for not sure its possible though not sure how reliable they actually are. I heard the engine of the 320d e90 is pretty good and reliable not have much info on the rest
I like the a6 because its 3.0 and has more horsepower but the bmw is manual so it would be more fun i guess
I like the interior of vw especially the seats looks comfy
ehhh getting a first used car is hard

There's a good chance all of those were ex fleet- or lease cars, shipped over from western Europe when the warranty/lease ran out. It's real easy to get shafted when buying one of those.

most are like that yes
in my case the passat is said to be used only in my country by 1 person since 0 km while the rest dont say

Yeah I know what you mean, I never liked porsche but I think the 944 is a cool car

Get the bimmer dude, don't waste money on VAG trash

The Passat will probably be the safest bet then, provided it has full maintenance records and all that.

That being said, it's still an early B6 Passat. Some of them had Mazda diesel engines, which were apparently quite failure-prone. Injectors also tend to fuck up, and there's the obvious VAG electronics meme, but that seems to affect (Mexican-built) US-market cars more than (German-built) EU-market cars.

my noob senses are telling me to get the audi cause its 3.0 200 hp or the bimmer cause its fun to drive
ill just take them someplace to check it throughly and see if theyre ok

The Audi is basically a VW but more complicated so there's more shit to go wrong and it'll cost more to fix. It's also an understeering barge, not great to drive.
Comfy though, and they're known for effortless cruising speed.
The BMW is probably the better option between those two, as the E90 was pretty decent reliability-wise and you can still work on them yourself, but it's at that turning point where everything started to get crammed full of computers for everything. It doesn't have an oil dipstick, for example.

Parts aren't likely to be a problem in eastern Europe, since that's basically where all the old lease- and fleet cars go. And again, maintenance records are very important with these cars.

what went wrong?

yeah thanks I will ask for any records of the cars take it to some bmw or audi point or something so they can check if the car is in good shape and check the km cause these guys tend to lower them just so they sell better and then decide

do bikes count?

>R1200R
>quiet as a mouse
>comfy as hell
>very classy looking bike
>amazing torque
>fucking filthy machine drinks oil and petrol like no tomorrow

Are German cars a meme?

why do they carry a premium pricetag when a lot of people say that they are unreliable and fall apart?

they carry that price cause they are high quality
they look good they feel good and they are comfortable while giving you a smooth drive
unreliability depends on particular models I think some can be better some worse but they are cars like any other
if you dont maintain them properly something will break and fixing it will cost more because the part costs more
Some older cars are very tough
Ive seen old mercs in my country reach 500k+ km easily
Some on the other hand are not worth fixing after say 250k km they just die and ud have to replace everything to get them going
this is just my opinion that I formed from hearing stuff here and there irl and in the internet I never owned a car so

t. bmw shill

I dont shill them Im just commenting my opinion
I like how they look but as I said I never owned a car
my opinion will change when I do and its gonna be german cause theyre so cheap where im from

what german cars do u own Veeky Forums

audis are

Serious question are BMWs, VWs and Mercedes less prone to breaking than US or Japanese made cars? Because older models are as expensive or more expensive than newer Jap and US cars.
I don't want to buy an older (10 years or so) Mercedes or BMW and have it shit out on me and cost more to repair.

This.
See also:

Depends on the model, don't get a V8 bmw for instance. I daily a 10 year old bimmer with a straight six and it's excellent, very reliable

which one do u got?

>tfw dumb whore backs into your car as you walk away from it
I fucking watched it happen. She gave me her number and then left before I could call the police or anything. I'm going to find her and get her insurance information and open a claim with them.

What year is that and how do you like it?

e60 530i

PCs (desktops) are easy to repair and dont shit themselves once the warranty is death.

It's an 89, I like it but it's been a pain in the ass since I've gotten it. I don't really like the way it drives because it has a really big steering wheel and the PO did some fucky stuff with the suspension, but it's still fun. I liked my previous one better, it was an 88 325is, but it's dead now.

I'm moving to Germany in a couple months. I was thinking about buying a C63 AMG... nothing too new, maybe a 2013 or so. my budget is about 30000 but i can adjust accordingly if i have to. Any suggestions?

Have fun with those fuel costs.

US Army though, I won't be paying europe prices for fuel

That really helps, since fuel cost is the 2nd biggest killer for fast cars and big engines, right below emissions taxes.
An AMG would be pretty cool, BMWs are turk cars, Audis are usually driven by angry angry businessmen.
You could get a very nice 911 or Cayman for that money as well, if you want something more handling-focused.

I'm erect.

Let's talk about direct injection.

I was considering a 911 too... I've lived in Germany before and I had a 1990 525 and a 1994 325 and both sucked ass. I want something with a little more power and i don't think i want to buy another BMW. I'm not too big a fan of Audi anyway but I know i would love having a Porsche. especially a 911. it wouild be a dream come truuuu

>meme

Regular 996s start around 20k, 30k would get you a Targa or C4S, or a 997 if you're lucky.
Hell, a classic 911 is an option as well, but they need significantly more care than a 996 or 997.

>I never owned a car so

>fucking filthy machine drinks oil and petrol like no tomorrow

Drinks oil like no tomorrow: No it doesn't unless it's fucked

Drinks fuel like no tomorrow: No it doesn't faggot you are just a FNG who has no clue how to ride it don't blame that bike because you are noob

I'm interested in a german car, don't have a ton of money but enough to get what I think is a decent starter car that'll hopefully last me quite a few years. I don't know how Veeky Forums feels about buying used from dealerships, but these are some cars around me I was looking at. Was hoping I could get some honest opinions on if I should avoid any or all of them.

confirmed nobike

Is the GTI still great? It's the hot hatch I am leaning towards.

AMG is short for "adieu mein geld" (goodbye my money). Dont buy before youve made sure to check the insurance and maintainance costs.

VW is a Muslim carriage?

I am a mercedes shill but the headbolts stretch on the w204 c63. I like the w204 more I own a c350 amg but I would wait until you can get the w205 c63.

b-bump

Why are BMW owners are literally assholes

Yes. Mk7>Mk6>Mk5>Mk1>Mk2>Mk3>Mk4

Because they buy an overpriced low end luxury car and think they have money.

I heard from a German on /int/ that most of BMW owners are kebabs in Germany

Hey guys my car is broken again and costs more than the entire car to fix, glad i bought german engineered car :^)

this

around here in the midwest, the H1B poo in the loos all buy bmws and the sell them after a year after realizing how awful they are for daily driving

And Slav, don't forget the Slavs
If you're a true Slav you buy either BMW or Mercedes, not Audi, that's for cheap faggots

Poo in loos are stupid enough to buy a BMW in America, built by Mexicans.
>how awful they are for daily driving
what did he mean by this

I personally feel like my German car is pretty great.

The drive is the best I have experienced in that I never feel like I'm having to push the engine to get to speed.

Repairs can be really expensive if something breaks but at 55k miles I haven't had many issues.

I just follow regular maintenance.

are e46 m3s /ourcar/?

no our cars are the shoes

Do I have to take my '87 Mercedes 300 to a special shop to get an alignment done, or can I just take it to any local tire shop?

How reliable/unreliable are Golf GTI?
I want a halfway quick hatchback as my next commuter when my civic dies and I've been thinking about this one.

I used to have my own car, it and tranny issues that cost more than the car to fix blah blah blah so I got rid of it. I was living on campus that year so I didn't need a car. then my mom got a new car and her old car has a rebuilt title so they didn't want to sell it because they wouldn't get the car's value. they are letting me use it, even take it to school 300 miles away. The car is an 07 VW Passat Wolfsburg 2.0T
The problem is its so boring to drive. just so boring. I mean, its got decent power with the turbo and everything but it isn't fun to drive. I don't know what it is but I just isn't fun. am I being retarded or is it real?
I'm thinking of just buying something of my own because I enjoy driving to relieve stress.

Every shoe I see for sale is silver or black.

Such a goofy car needs goofy colours, damn lame buyers in 00s.

Fuck Yurop fuckboys in BMWs

stay mad fuccboii
ull never drive a smooth comfy car

I already told you to avoid the pre-2008 2.0 TDI from VW.
That's because it's the old PD, and it has serious issues with injectors failing, turbo failing, clutch failing and when the clutch goes down it usually takes the gearbox with it.

Also, can someone tell me something about the E90 318i ? A coworker has a E90 320d, which he is mostly pleased of, however he commutes from home to work, whereas as I don't, so a diesel doesn't justify itself in my case.
Sure, parts are abit more expensive, but they tend to last longer, so at the end of the day it's the same cost.

The Passat is not meant to be a sporty car to drive. It's aimed to be an family car.
Why does it even have the 2.0T option beats me. The Passat should be sold only with the 2.0TDI as an option.

You should switch to a 2.0TFSI Audi A4. There's lots of similarities between the A4 and the Passat, but the A4 is more sports-oriented and the Passat family-oriented.
Better yet, get the A3/Golf with the 2.0TFSI and have a blast at driving.

all you really need is the mask and the headlights
get the GTI bodykit
don't stance it

Are F30s reliable?

well I wouldn't be able to buy a car that expensive if I was to get my own

all the bosnians in my city have bmw mercedes, I have to one up them and buy a bentley

>own a MK5 VW Golf
>get a little butthurt at all the "lmao @ VAG build quality/reliability" memes
>car only has ~126k on it but I've already had to rebuild the tranny (auto) and get the timing chain replaced
>try to stay on top of the maintenance, still drives as good as the day I bought it 8-9 years ago
>in spite of all that, still want to replace it

Piles of shit. Less of a piece of junk than the F10 5 series, but still...

On total it's fairly reliable, but if you go for the diesels you are in for a nasty surprise.
Also the F30 is plagued with electric gremlins as this is the first BMW which is more electric than mechanical.
A base F30 316i or 318i is still as good as every 3 series, just avoid the diesels.

>have friend
>He has a Mk 5 Golf Plus 1.9TDI
>Car has 320k km and still goes like a charm
>All he did was regular maintainance ( with the camshaft being replaced every 100k km as per the manual )

>Have friend with a Mk 5 Golf 2.0 TDI
>He decided he wants to get rid of that piece of shift and refuses to repair it. Only does the oil changes ( cheapest he can find ) and that's it
>The Golf currently has 360k km and refuses to die.
>The owner is exasperated by the rustbucket simply refusing to die.

You must be talking of the mexican VAG products.

The A3 2.0TFSI then. Or a Golf GTI. Or a Polo GTI. Or a Seat Leon Cupra.

That's the problem, they're nice cars, but it's hard to justify the effort required to keep them nice.

Yeah generally they are, but electrical gremlins are common

>a3
>polo
>seat leon cupra
I would love these but I'm in the US

Actually havent had to put much effort or $$ into keeping it running nice other than the timing chain & transmission jobs

I simply want to stop being associated with other VAG owners and the "muh mexican build quality" meme

Looking to buy a '14 C63 Sedan sometime in the next year or so and I'm seeing a few of them for around $40k. Is that a good price? How much more will they go down in the next year?

HOW CAN I MAKE AN N53 NOT SHIT

>tfw this is literally me
>tfw buy 944
>tfw join Porsche club, gain new appreciation for Porsche
>tfw lusting hard after an aircooled now

Four doors were still a mistake tho

ideas for this s8?

I manual swapped it a while ago

ready to move on to FI. not sure if super or turbo

Do I need to find a specialized garage to do work on a BMW?

>Do I need to find a specialized garage to do work on a BMW?
Of coursh

Fug, I don't know if the BMW life is for me yet.
What's a good price for an hour of work at one of these places? Are they gonna charge a ton more?

Depends what year/model and what kind of work you want done. According to the memes (not a very good source), anything with VANOS is going to cost a bit

can u buff ur headlights first pls thx

If you're not already a Euro, be ready for fucking stupid high taxes, insurance, parking fees, and fuel costs.

I'm an American who moved to Germany two years ago and realized right away why 1 in 6 under 30s drive. Costs are batshit crazy

Engine work? Yeah, I would

Brakes/suspension/tires/anything other than the engine that you don't want to work on? Nah, unless it's an M

Daddy wants to hand down his 1987 Mercedes 560SL to me.

Should I sell it or keep it? It's got about 80k miles on it

>Should I sell it or keep it? It's got about 80k miles on it

Keep it you dummy! I'm not even a merc fan and I would baby that thing, especially with such low mileage. Old man handed you a vintage car, don't sell it unless you really hate it for some reason.

give it to me if i show u my bp ;3?

Keep it, you fuckwit. If your old man hands you down something, he's handing down his pride and joy.

GO AWAY WESLEY
