Bump

>be about 17, call towing company to tow my car to my friend's to replace my clutch
>tow driver goes on about how he knows this guy who tuned a ford GT to go 200 mph
>realize guy is talking about a ford probe GT, promptly my friend and I start giving the guy a weird look
>i fucking doubt it, big guy

There's never anything wrong with 90s Ford style

god forbid he try and talk about a relatable thing and possibly make a friend

it looks so fucking 90s

He should have just said
>breh
>lel
>ur fukin car bro
>ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
>no but srsly
>let me tell u about this guy I had to tow

when you put it that way, i guess i was a bit standoffish. but to turn a probe GT to a 200mph capable machine... well... i know it's gonna be a bit involved.

Dude that's just a big bore turbo (95-105mm), tune, 2.79 RD, and a widened track.

>90's 2 door hatch
>not pigfat
>mazda v6 making 160hp
It's great, i'd really like a facelifted gt-s or just a normal gt but nobody around me is selling one worth buying

RD? as in rear diff? probe GT is FF

All i know is that the people who call this car crap and gay, are children and carless bench sitters.

>It's FWD, oh no what a disaster.

The state of Veeky Forums

To be honest a FR Probe GT would have been a perfectly alternative to S14s.

The Probe was supposed to replace the Mustang. People who love the Mustang weren't having any of 4 banger FWD BS as their "performance" car, so after a massive letter writing campaign, Ford relented and kept both.

The Probe is a re-skinned Mazda MX-6. one is as good as the other, and both are good.

Also people like to turn them RWD, and put V8 in them.

Here are some examples:

youtu.be/a1pMZAQ4xzg

pretty good, I had one for a few years, if I could find another clean one I'd pick it up as a daily.

how would you rank the following 90's FWD coupes
Probe
Eclipse gen1
Celica V
Mazda MX-3
Opel Calibra
I mean the normal, 2.slow variants none of that awd extravaganza

Probe and MX-3 are up there for that lovely K-series V6.

This But also Eclipse 1G for the 4g63 boosted madness

I missed out on a M I N T 1992 Probe GT 2.2t with 98k MI for $1500, mfw

>Probe
>Doesn't go up your ass

What did Ford mean by this?

I dont know but they always looked good to me

>Reliable as fuck (KLDE engine)
>still cute today
>reasonable mpg
>pretty good fwd
I love mine

theyre good as long as you stay away from the automatics and can find one that isnt beat to shit

KLDE is a good engine and a KLZE drops right in for a 40hp gain

they handle pretty damn well too

j-dogg from ProbeTalk.com here, be prepared for the ultimate redpill on this car, pic related my 3rd one, 2nd GT and also owner of a happy little 4-cyl base model

Good:

>V6 DOHC power in the GT, 7500 RPM redline
>Lots of aftermarket, if you dig around, there is a guy who builds ITBs for that V6 if you have the cash
>KLZE swap nets 200 crank hp and can make that at the wheels on bolt-ons and a good tune
>Lightweight, 93GT's ride the hardest and lowest and handle the best
>4-cylinder models can easily hit 300K on the stock sealed engine if equipped with a stick, avoid the auto at all costs
>V6 howls like an old Grand Prix V12 when you open the exhaust on them
>V6 models will do 140mph if you hold them open long enough
>comfortable seats, optimal pedal placement for perfect heel-toe rev matching
>Fast and Furious-tier sport compact performance without the FnF tax
>looks awesome, Veeky Forums approved pop-up lights

Bad:

>auto a shit, the manual is made of glass and barely holds the stock power of the V6, but can be strengthened to handle more power
>known for being electrical nightmares
>all the cream puffs are automatics and are owned mostly by boomers who "know what they got" "rare" "don't miss this opportunity"
>hard to find because they are cheap enough for people who dont take care of their cars to run into the ground
>Probe-specific parts, especially the 93 model year, are very hard to find without using eBay or getting lucky at the local pick and pull
>GT almost requires premium fuel to prevent knocking
>most parts houses will not stock anything outside of general maintenance for the car anything else past belts you will have to have them order or use RockAuto
>transmission was designed during the era of 55-mph national speedlimit so 70mph = 3500rpm in the V6

Bottom line, buy one you won't be disappointed.

Things to watch for when buying one a 2g:

>Check for transmission gear oil leaks, the cases flex if you beat on them enough
>Check for a coolant leak on the belt side of the motor, if leaking get ready for a timing belt job
>Check to see if the axles have been replaced, it's a pain to do if you've never replaced them
>3rd gear is known to be weak, if it's notchy on the test drive you'll be replacing that trans soon
>Tach and oil pressure gauge on the 93 and 94 are notoriously innaccurate. 95+ uses an on/off switch for oil pressure, 93-94 reads actual oil pressure
>HLAs tick on high mile motors, which is okay, but not to be confused with a much louder knock

about as good as the Escort GT

But way better looking and much faster

Protip: the ZX2 and EGT front strut mounts fit the Probe and drop the nose a half an inch

The EGT also can take the V6 from the Gen2 probe
