Yeah, I'm replaying it too and everyone seems so unnecessarily annoyed with him to the point where it feels overboard and more like Kodaka being annoyed with him. He was trying to keep everyone organized and with their spirits up in his own way. Hardly a crime.

I think what really cinched it for me was Aoi cradling Hifumi- a guy who had done nothing but be a creep and poorly hide his lust for girls while doing nothing useful- and crying over him like he was her best friend. Ishimaru's murder is hardly talked about compared to the "tragedy" of Celes betraying Hifumi- while completely ignoring the fact that Hifumi was entirely willing to murder someone and get everyone else sans him and Celes killed for it.

I would take Ishimaru over half of the other survivors, honestly.

Yeah that scene with Asahina and Yamada was dumb as fuck. Like everyone just ignored Ishimaru completely despite him being entirely innocent that case and it felt more about Yamada getting backstabbed by Celeste. The DR1 survivors were pretty shitty.

Yeah, it's like his crime of being annoying was worse than Hifumi and Celeste's crime of actual murder. The trial was really entirely about Hifumi- hell, they didn't even go into why Ishimaru would jump on an offer to escape just like that, especially when he's Ishida.

If they swapped out Togami for Ishimaru, I'd be 10x happier with the survivors on the whole.

I think Asahina was meant to be the "suffered enough so she deserved to live" type, not someone who needed more time to grow. She doesn't have any real issues or flaws that need a shitton of development/side material to overcome, like Touko. When you get down to it, she's pretty normal.
