The French Revolution was the start of the true dark ages, not sure why you'd want to read about it
that sounds kind of fucking important
Its the greatest event in human history
The current dark ages happened because the west abandoned the Catholic church. What else do you need to know?
If you're a fedora maybe.
>The French Revolution was the start of the true dark ages
Isn't this a reason why it should be studied?
>counterrevolutionaries actively try to stifle learning
Reactionaries never change.
le miserables
Don't skip out on the documents. The writings and arguments of the political leaders of the revolution and foreign leaders writing reactions to it is some really intellectually thick stuff.
>The current dark ages happened because the west abandoned the Catholic church. What else do you need to know?
So you're saying that the dark ages began with the protestant reformation and not the french revolution?
Get your meme consistent please.
>this is what monarchists actually believe
why is it Viva if it's French
The extremely long, difficult to read one by Thomas Carlyle.
You don't need to do that really. Just think of the most extreme version of musical chairs, and where there are supposed to be chairs are guillotines instead.

In french there is Jean Tulard : Histoire et dictionnaire de la Révolution française 1789-1799
Edmund Burke, Joseph De Maistre and Thomas Carlyle wrote pretty good accounts.
Dont read english books
Yay thanks!
>le reactionary anti revolution contrarian edgemaster
It's fucking hilarious, you niggers are living in the most confortable society ever , you have warmth food and trivial pleasure at your hand at any desired time. You think a perpetuated feudalism would have allowed your existence ?yet you constantly go against the very principles that gave you everything Fucking poltards
Don't trust any history book that isn't written in Russian, Korean, or Congolese.
Counter-revolution was not a reaction to the abolition of the remnants of feudalism (Aug 1789). Counter-revolution and anti-centralization efforts were a pretty justified effort that sprouted in reaction to the radicalization after the Flight, and especially Louis' execution.

same rights for everyone no matter who was your father was the thing that changed whole society of the world.
Yes, and as I mentioned that was a development that was made in 1789. Counter-revolution emerged afterwards not in reaction to declarations of equality before the law.
Not even during the Restoration were corporate privileges re-instated.
The only kernel of good which could possibly be extracted from the radical stages of the revolution is the beginning of the social-democrat tradition emerging with the 1793 constitution, depending on your political orientation.
Rejecting the revolution because of the radicalization is also a mainstream view - far from contrarian. The professors critical of the revolution aren't dark enlightenment reactionaries.
Protestant heretics are bad and allowed for the world where a fedora tipping revolution could take place, but not nearly as bad as the fedoras themselves.
Catholicism was in the rebound, on the verge of driving the last heretics out of Europe, before they got stabbed in the back by Parisian neckbeards.
Most prods today realize their ancestors fucked up anyway.
>no famine in west

Don't trust any book written by a Celtic, Germanic, Latin, Gothic, Frankish, slavic, Arabic or Nordic author
Don't you think an account clearly inclined to be critical could be the most reliable one? Carlyle was of course proto-/pol/ if any one figure in all of human history can be given the title but if you approach his work with that in mind he can be informative. Just tune out once he starts up on race.
It has yet to be written, user, but my 2p is to avoid any and all anglo sources
>The French Revolution was the start of the true dark ages
