Communism sounds good in theory but in practice it ended up killing millions. Simply put it goes against human nature.

Short answer:
Mismanagement.

It will rise again like a phoenix from the ashes.

Gorbachev never intended for the union to disintegrate but once he relaxed his grasp on the rest of the block, all the soviet colonies made a runner for it.

Projecting power at a distance is both necessary and ruinously expensive.

Is this a troll post?

I can't even tell anymore

>rises stronger
>stronger communism
>more poverty than before
XD

Two words: Human nature.

The problem of economic calculation ensured they'd never be prosperous, and since communism causes poverty in this way the Soviet Union had to use force to keep itself together. Eventually it wasn't able to project enough force to sustain itself, so it broke apart.

The reason it didn't survive it's because it adopted a set of economic and political theories called Marxism.

Turns out people weren't all that big fans of bread lines or being held in the world's largest open air prison.

Nyooks.

Russian strenght lied in its armed forces. When nuclear weapons eliminated chance for conventional war, only cultural and economic warfare remained and communists suck at culture and economy.

I quite enjoy Soviet sci-fi, their optimistic hope in space exploration being the savior of humanity appeals to me.

>Central planning

I literally can't tell if this is ironic or not.

>muh human nature

Daily reminder commies were so butthurt at genetics and natural selection they enforced the lysenko meme for 50 years even though it indirectly resulted in the death of millions

Jews cant stop their genocidal antics.

(((((separatism)))))

So do I, but far, far more people enjoy big-ass bulky men wielding big-ass guns, jumping around big-ass explosion and qt romantic comedies with qt actors with qt smiles.

They also suck at war.

Lost the game to America.

America is like a super Britain on steroids. Separated from Europe by fucking oceans, not just a channel, with huge industry.

It's not even economic calculation. It was misreporting production figures. Imagine if it was a cultural thing for all middle management to be corrupt and lie to upper management.

It was a different mindset OP.
>running in the early 90s
>oil industry being mostly privatized
>random clerk volunteers to be CEO of oil company
>gets called into boss's office
>you know if you go private, you lose the perks here, right?
>yeah
>no car
>yup
>no house
>mhm
>no free food
>I'm aware yes
>you would have to.....BUY everything. Are you sure you want to sacrifice so much for our nation?
>yes, definitely
>2 years later fucker's a billionaire

It failed to implement REAL communism

The point is even if the people were ideal, socialism is doomed to fail because it's just impossible to efficiently run an economy without market forces. Certainly the Soviet Union had other problems, but that's the central one.

Not enough money to finance her puppets

No True Communist fallacy

Compared to who? Compared to contemponary western armies they were better. West had no chance of offensive and barely enough forces for defense of Europe.

That's speaking about land war of course, naval warfare was always a sour grape to Russian nation.

>Why couldn't the Union survive?

soviet union was built from the ground up on foundation of opression
worked well to keep people in check through constant fear
but then gorbachev said DUDE GLASNOST AND PERESTROIKA LMAO
suddenly less oppression, and less fear. people realized they could kind of speak up against soviet communism without instantly getting gulag'd like in the past. so people started getting uppity.
soviet state had grown rusty and weak from years of mismanagement, nepotism and corruption. could not deal with people getting uppity. collapsed.
