What are some of your favorite uniforms throughout history, Veeky Forums?
I think this reproduction of a WWI-era German Uhlan is pretty greart, for instance.

Tbh mid Unification era German uniforms are pretty swagtastic.
>inb4 nazi role play fags circle jerk
Post something original for once
I never understood the difference between Uhlans, Hussars, Dragoons, etc... in World War I? Did they still do different things by that time?
Actually did mounted cavalry really hace much of a combat role in WWI? I've seen photos of soldiers from World War I mounted on horseback with lances, but how were those effective against machine guns and rifles? Did the cavalrymen of the Great War also carry rifles or carbines or pistols? Did they have sabres?
I think I read somewhere that on the western front that all types of cavalry were dismounted to fight in the trenches and such early in the war, but they continued to be used on horseback in the east. Is that true? How could they be effective with lances even in the east when firearms were in play? Or did they ditch those for guns soon too?
WWI cavalry outside of the middle eastern theaters and using horses for mobility of material makes sense, but outside of that I don't get their use at all. Can anyone here on Veeky Forums explain World War I lancer/uhlan/cavarly's use to me when there were machine guns and trenches and firearms everywhere?
That kind of looks like the dress uniform tunics that First World War-era German aviators wore. I love that look.
Wait, this is kind of confusing. Most photos I've seen of German pilots from World War One show them with single-breasted uniform. I've seen some wearing double-breasted like this one too though, but not as much. Here is an image that shows two pillots wearing the different uniforms. I wonder if it is a nobility or rank thing?
Does anyone know why some of the German Air Force pilots wore the single-breasted uniform and some the double-breasted version?
Spanish American war was really when we really dressed for success
Looks even better on a loli.
I actually don't know the answer to this question. I can't find it through Google either.
Anyone know, Veeky Forums?
Also, I always found WWI RAF officer uniforms pretty aesthetic.
Thats not aesthetic at all though
Gay little prissy cowboys
Looks dull and boring.
All the uniforms above don't have enough swag
TBF op, all uniforms from pre-1980's were great and good looking. I dont really like modern uniforms.

For the most part, the different designations of cavalry units were just a matter of military tradition by WWI.
They were regiments that traced their history back to the 18th and 19th centuries, when each of those types of cavalry had different roles, but by the early 20th century they were all pretty much just generic light cavalry.
Confederate uniforms were Veeky Forums as fuck
>That kind of looks like the dress uniform tunics that First World War-era German aviators wore.
It sure does
Did they actually perform cavalry duties during ww1 though? Outside of the middle eastern theater, I can't see how charging with a lance or sabre is particularly effective against machine guns and rifles.
Were cavalry soldiers eventually dismounted and treated just like other soldiers on the western front? Like, did they just ditch the horse and go to the trenches or did they keep their horses and use firearms too?
Also this is a good question. Anyone know about this?
a e s t h e t i c
Some pilots wore the uniform of the regiment they came from. Richthofen came from an Uhlan regiment.
Goddamn somebody needs to bring that type of pants back into fashion.
It seems to be just baggy pants ...
You do see that it's tucked into the boots right? that's what makes it look that way.
...
Well I think they actually get tighter after the knee so I don't think its just baggy pants. Though the main issue isn't the cut. Its wearing it outside without people thinking your retarded.
Does anyone have any pics of actual WW2 Italian Officers? I can only find drawings or miniatures thru google. I really like ww2 italian unfiorms because they look fascist WITHOUT looking comically evil.
i love all manner of french uniforms from 1783-1815
Is that it? Huh, I guess that makes sense.
But I thought the German Air Force of WWI was its own semi-autonomous entity and didn't only have members transferring over from regular Army Regiments? Wouldn't there be a standard uniform for the guys that just joined the Luftstreitkräfte straight away? Or am I wrong about how things were organized somewhere here.
Also on topic: pic related.
wtf is this where are these soldiers from why are they wearing skirts
They're military uniforms, not fucking ballroom dresses you flaming homosexual.
The uniform isn't what matters but the man inside.
I love those late-war mismatched, ragtag camo German uniforms
Austrian uniforms starting from 1760s all the way into WW1.
The uhlan uniform in your post is derived from Austrian ones as well.
When infantry and tanks had broken through, the cavalry attacked to exploit the gap fully and harass the retreating troops.
Post more late-war german uniforms

Not speaking out of just nationalism.this really does look pretty cool.

The hat is smaller than they usually show in the movies, maybe it's just perspective.
US civil war Uniforms are neato simply because it's a branching point between Napoleonic and modern dress
Unique uniforms akin to a region or state is one of the biggest things I miss about older armies
I always liked the cossack military uniforms.

Cossack uniforms are just a poor copy of Caucasian uniforms
>ht makes right argument still get butthurt when it gets done the other way, though.
>IE people who use the argument for European imperialism but get monumentally butthurt at "muslim aggression" with the arab invasions/ottoman empire.
Who invented the Caucasian uniform
What are you talking about?
>Who invented the Caucasian uniform
Someone from the Caucasus. Still unclear which nation got it first, but its part of all their cultures
>mfw I just stole the upholstery of a 90s van parked at walmart
t. Hobo
>Someone from the Caucasus.
But the Caucasus is a hodgepodge of dozens of isolated distinct languages and ethnicities, and were never united except under Russia.
Napoleonic War-era naval officer uniforms.
>not appreciating a warrior culture
Some nations were united at times, but not all. But that hasn't to do anything with what we're talking about. The culture of the Caucasians is similar, so is the traditional outfit.
[gets curb stomped by slavs]
>The culture of the Caucasians is similar, so is the traditional outfit.
no their cultures are world's apart. 5 different language families are in the caucasus and none intelligible.

Lancers played a considerable role on the Eastern Front, where there was both the space and battlefield fluidity for cavalry action. The Russian Cossack divisions were especially noted for their skill with the lance.

Imperial Russian?
That is some damn fine colour job, holy crap.

Their cultures are similar, languages not. I am from the Caucasus myself, so your point is invalid.
