It's a matter of preference and personal bias for the individual, you can jump through many logical loops to explain it but that's what it boils down to.

It's also a matter of preference though, some people have bad taste and like less than pale skin.

Which is why bodybuilders apply lead soon whitener rather than bronzer. White as a color is associated with purity which in many cultures is associated with virginity and therefore youth.

Of course now that wealth can be displayed through holidays to hot sunny places, it has reversed and tanned skin is now deemed attractive.

But this is a European phenomenon, in Asia where the people are brown and the weather is always sunny, being pale and out of it still means being wealthy.

Fair skin is associated with youth which is an attractive trait in women. People tend to have lighter skin as babies than as adults, regardless of sunlight explosure.

In asia, light skin and dark skin references their skin tones changing due to amount of sunlight they receive. Labor workers = dark skin. Scholars = light skin. Thats the simple truth.

Depends of the Chinese, Southern/Northern chinks are quite different. Southern are smaller and darker, northern a bit bigger, raunchier and paler.

Gyaru is a specific aesthetic. The girls aren't naturally darkj, they put great effort into looking a specific way (fit, energetic, young), which is attractive in itself, but putting in the effort to accomplish that look is also indicative of positive traits, such as determination, independence, perseverance and a sense for aesthetics. It makes perfect sense to be attracted to gyaru girls, even though they are not pale. They still display all other attractive features (body proportions and such).

Or a warrior. That's why dark skin is also associated with manliness.

Light skin was preferable for women in the past, bu nowadays it doesn't matter anymore because all the whores are obsessed with tanning as much as possible.

pale skin was always more attractive. It was a class signal. pale people didn't work outside. which mean they were of a higher class.

tanning only got popular in western society after 1923. when Coco Chanel came back from a cruise in the Mediterranean and got too much sun.

It's only useful for women in urbanised environments who have succumbed to commercial materialist desires and modern westernised culture.
Plenty of women in different ethnicities look great with their native styles.
As for the market, it's probably just relative to the consumer demand in the regions were said markets are active and the fads or trends which drive them which again is something associated with commercial marketing, both currently and throughout history.
