The part about Russians wanting to join the German army to fight commies is actually true, but it leaves out a very important detail: once it become obvious that the German army was going to exterminate the Russian people, all that goodwill towards the Germans instantly vanished. Hitler could have indeed had a great deal of support from Russians if he hadn't been so obsessed with killing everybody in Russia to make room for lebensraum.
