I was always intrigued by this photograph of soldiers of Budionny's 1st mounted army during their offensive in Poland, specifically by the headwear of the unmounted soldier in the centre.
What the hell is it? Soviet army hadn't introduced own helmets at that point and it doesn't seem to have Adrian helmet tip's comb
I began to unironically suppose it might be a cooking pot, judging by oval construction and something looking like a handle on the construction's back.
Can some untarded user enlighten me on this question?

Maybe still an Adrian helmet, which he has taken the Tsarist eagle off, for obvious reasons, and the angle obstructs view of the ridge?
