Old Marine general ruins an exercise by having bike messengers travel at the speed of light

>Old Marine general ruins an exercise by having bike messengers travel at the speed of light

The Navy is gay but nothing is worse than a USMC general with a huge chip on his shoulder.

/thread

Also, the reason this on Veeky Forums is because OP got rekt on /k/.

>Bike couriers moving at the speed of light
>Fishing boats with silkworm antiship missiles larger than the boat itself spawning out of nowhere
>Challenge wasn't even intended to see would win but to test communications systems
Was it autism?

>/k/

thread link ?

It's called winning, it's what Marines do.

why was it so expensive? what did they even do?

A TOTAL AND COMPLETE IRANIAN VICTORY

Riper was "that kid" during elementary school recess, wasn't he.
>nuh uh I have a force field you can't touch me

>Fishing boats with silkworm antiship missiles

the missiles weren't on the fucking boats

Reminder that the US Military is even more decrepit now than it was back then.

We deserve that Russia-in-WW1-tier military disaster awaiting us in the future.

>show up the shortcomings of muh future warfare
>military gets embarrassed, ignores the result, resets and just script it so the result they want happens

we vietnam again

>Van Riper used motorcycle messengers to transmit orders to front-line troops and World-War-II-style light signals to launch airplanes without radio communications

based

in this instance the US Military was "that kid"

>We deserve that Russia-in-WW1-tier military disaster awaiting us in the future.
>12 CVN's
>army, navy, airforce larger than the next five largest combined
>in any way comparable to WW1 Russia
Buddy, no.

Heaven forbid the military have an exercise without some sperg breaking to rules to "win" an imaginary fight.

How did he break the rules tho? The article literally only says that he used what we’d consider outdated and antiquated strategies, not that those broke the rules of engagement (as if there were any except lol no nukes)

I wanna see this

25 years

>12 CVN
>thinking they're not gonna wind up at the bottom of the ocean as soon as Ivan and Xeng start spamming hypersonic cruise missiles, submarines, and nukes at them

kek

>army, navy, airforce larger than the next five largest combined

China's is three times our size in terms of active personnel alone and hasn't been run down by 16 years of Middle Eastern quagmires that have left it demoralized and bitterly divided.

>250 million to test communication systems

The military should have said to Van Riper, "Hey, good job! Wargame over!" and then secretly play the next 13 days with a new red general.

>/k/ so assblasted their tacticool weapons got BTFO by old school tech that they REEE the thread to Veeky Forums

Are you implying that's a lot of money for the government? It's not.

How is this Veeky Forums? Back to whatever shitstain you emerged from.

>thinking they're not gonna wind up at the bottom of the ocean as soon as Ivan and Xeng start spamming hypersonic cruise missiles, submarines, and nukes at them
>actually believing what Ivan and Huang say about their capabilities
>somehow ignoring the fact that every carrier has a carrier group to shield it, along with a carrier wing
Yeah, I'm sure the USN is gonna be real scared about the chinese "supermissiles" when the SM3 Block IIA can knock ballistic missiles out of the sky like a negro knocking off a bucket of KFC, and while Zhang's carrier wing(s) are restricted to a knockoff of a Kuznetsov (lmao).
>China's is three times our size in terms of active personnel alone
China also has no way to project those three million chucklefucks anywhere that isn't on the mainland or Taiwan at a stretch.
Not to mention, those Chinese troops are also completely inexperienced with actual combat, whereas the US still has a ton of NCO's and soldiers with live combat experience.

>live combat experience
>shoot at goatherds minding their sheep.

I need the /k/ thread user.
Sounds lulzy as fuck

Why don't you click on the little /k/ at the bottom of your screen and find it yourself?

>I don't know how missle spam works.
LARP

>I don't know how carrier groups operate
Cringe.

You can substitute Bike courriers as anything that conventional systems can't tap. Aka Quantum locked messages. Speed of the message is vaguely irrelevant due to the nature of fog of war. It might as well be speed of light to the unware opponent.

Ships "spawning out of no where" means it evaded detection, which has happened and can happen.

>it was a test of communications
And it failed hard. Van Riper demonstrated the true limits in war, via fog of war concepts.

this happens alot, iirc before xijingping the OPfor in the PLA were expected to lose to save face for the general being tested

>Aka Quantum locked messages
because that was a thing that the USN expected to face in 2002

sauce?

In a war that's guaranteed to be a long one, military experience is guaranteed on the job. It's how the soviets did it.

This.

Its pretty dumb to conduct a test of modern communication systems that necessitates a retarded enemy.

Sure Van Riper might have been a sperg BUT he pointed out critical flaws in the American doctrin.

Scripting the whole exercise and preventing the OPFOR from shooting down transport planes and forcing them to turn on their Radar makes the exercise pretty worthless.

The point is that you can't expect unexpected things. The enemy could have new ways of Communications. Overconfidence and a rigid a doctrin are a good way to ein into a Disaster.

CVN's
HMS Hood, greatest ship in the Navy.

How could this happen?

Keep your carriers 2000 km away of the enemy, use satellite to determine where the enemy is, a combination of submarine and aircraft attack should sink most of them.

its almost as if we may have tried that and found nothing

who da thunk that going backwards would actually win a future war

its an event in history lad

you could ask the same for practically 90% of the posts on Veeky Forums particularly of military nature

>a modern war
>long

laffin

>LIES! America is stroooong

We're still at war with Afghanistan

where's the declaration of war?
are we in a state of war?

no.

>2002

probably the best thread on it in the past
desuarchive.org/k/thread/27942346/

essentially it boils down to him exploiting errors in the coding to "win" a communications test.

THe US is at war with the whole of the middle east except the saudis and jews.
executive arm of those two.

>How could this happen?

filthy tribal hillbillies get their hands on some actually dangerous weapons.

>missiles being launched by fishing boats that weigh less than the missile with no targeting system
Van ripper was retarded.

>hurr the Chinese can overwhelm a CBG with Silkworm missiles! Never mind that the parameters of that particular wargame gave the Chinese forces magical floating launchers that could fit on a single 2x4 floating through the ocean and were completely unmanned, 100x as many Silkworm missiles as the entire Chinese military possesses, magical teleporting bike-messengers that can totally walk on water so REDFOR could circumvent 100% of the US' massive lockdown on communications capability, and magically all the Aegis destroyers were completely incapable of detecting missiles they've been historically able to detect for the last decade with near-100% efficiency!
What if China does have these weapons and were hiding them?
