These, unironically
Slavery:
States rights to have slavery.
Economy based around slavery.
Political representation due to slavery.
A way of life that revolved around slavery.
Federal policy that benefited states that didn't rely on slavery.
It was entirely due to slavery. People may not have fought for slavery in of itself, but slavery was so intrinsic to the South that even if you didn't like the practice of slavery, any threat to slavery would affect your way of life and living conditions which you did care about.
States Rights.
the right to own jews? something like that?

Imagine if Washington DC told Detroit they couldn’t use assembly lines to make cars anymore. People would resist, yeah? Their entire economy would crumble overnight.

Detroit's economy crumbled quite some time ago. Also assembly lines aren't people.
Trap are gay but best kind of gay.

>when you claim to fight for states rights yet you take away the right of states to choose whether or not they want to have slavery
>implying the south had an economy worth collapsing
Who knew that by thinking about the Civil War I could find some nihilistic, deterministic world view about the entire fabric of space-time itself.
>When you don't know that Confederate States could abolish slavery if they wanted to because the constitution and government were formed by moderates.
Dirt and water because no airplanes.
>Southerners using slaves to pick cotton in the early 19th century
>Detroit using the assembly line to produce automobiles in the 1950s
>Feds tell both to knock it off immediately , both would logically rebel.
>Implying morality or whatever ever takes precedence over materialism.
You’re better than this, Veeky Forums.
>the constitution and government were formed by moderates
Take a look at the sheer number of Confederate leaders, both military and civilian, who were opposed to secession and only joined the Confederacy out of a sense loyalty to their home states and you'll see he has a point.
A short list
>Robert E. Lee
>Alexander Stephens
>Stephen Mallory
>Albert S. Johnston (only sided with the Confederacy after Union authorities in California attempted to arrest him)
>John C. Breckinridge
>Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson
>Braxton Bragg
>George Pickett
>James Longstreet
And of course, there's Jefferson Davis himself who remarked that the day Mississippi withdrew from the Union was the darkest of his life.
Slavery. And I can say that with confidence because ever poltical wedge issue in the US in the 20 years leading up to the war revolved around the slavery question.
Doesn't make them moderates bro, it makes them weak-willed men who joined with a failed cause that happened to be localized around them.
Reactionary niggerdry at its finest
castrating the south politically and economically
For the Union: to preserve the union

It was either an exploitative agricultural elite or an exploitative industrial elites
at least the latter made America a world power and didn't outright have slaves.
Rights, slavery was a side show.
>real world profession
The south wanted to create the golden ring around the gulf of Mexico and Caribbean and use their cotton based economy to go full empire
Niggers
That's a sign of moral weakness.
>ascended
the South were going to free the slaves once the war was over to create a multiethnic proto Marxist superstate
>Beyond Ascended
The South was the spritual sucessor to the Roman Empire, and the North Carthage.
