SS13: d20

Rolled 1 (1d20)

Welcome to the thread for d20 station, a rules light Space Station 13 server.

>What is Space Station 13?
It's a 2D top down atmospherics simulator with who dun it gameplay layered on top. Each crew member aboard the station has a specific job to perform, while a select few are selected to be traitors (assassin/spy/thief).

>How do I play?
You'll need to download the BYOND client. There's games other than SS13, but enter those at your own risk.
BYOND Download link: byond.com/download/
You'll also want a BYOND account, which gives you a ckey so you can save preferences and be recognized by the game. It's highly recommended to make an account if you're experiencing connection issues or don't want to be a fat tourist/starving space bum.

To connect: Open BYOND, click the gear in the upper right. Click "Open Location" and paste in the IP below.
byond://76.16.8.127:28014 OR byond://d20station.ddns.net:28014

>How do I play
Use OOC (backspace say" in the bottom, type OOC and hit enter) and ask someone for help on how to play. People will almost always help you get a grip of the game if you're polite about it, just don't reveal too much in-round information in OOC. There's also wikis dedicated to documenting the spaceman way of life, but they vary widely from server to server.

>What are the rules?
The rules are very relaxed and admins try to take a hands-off approach to administrating. Admins will generally only intervene if someone is explicitly playing to ruin the game or being a dick. Reminder to read the rules in-game.

>What map/code do you run?
We run a heavily modified Ministation map with mostly custom code. Most jobs on Ministation are merged with similar counterparts and head roles have been re-enabled.

>D20 wiki where?
robustvinyl.com/ss13/wiki/

>When does everyone play?
Check out the server pop graph to see when people are playing: ss13.se/servers/3031/

>Who are these tripfaggots?
Usually admins/coders in the server.

>the curse of the natural one
RIP

I feel injecting a patient with inaprovaline really takes away all sense of urgency. Injecting a critical patient gives you all the time in the world to bring them back from the brink of death.
Pilcrow had a good idea where inaprovaline increases metabolism rate the longer it is in a patient's system. I'm also considering some overdose thing or just an adverse effect on inaprovaline.

Thoughts?

I like that idea, I'd like there to be a chemical that slows bleeding as well, that way you can get some precious seconds to keep them going so they don't bleed out and die instantly.

back up

is bleeding from a cut or minor laceration still lethal within a minute or so?
small cuts ought to heal fine on thier own most of the time without any medical intervention, lacerations I can understand causing a lot of bleeding but there should be ways to control bleeding without medical tools. I.E using a grab on someone's limb, swapping to help, and upgrading the grab (ideally not something that's such a convoulted process) can be used to apply direct pressure and staunch bleeding.

Small cuts heal fine on their own. Minor laceration is actually the 2nd most severe cut you can get.

>apply direct pressure and staunch bleeding.
What if clothing were allowed as a temporary bloodstop?

Something like that would be good, although the ability to rip up clothes or something to turn into cloth strips to apply pressure to the wound, maybe add in tourniquets for limb wounds.

I could look into adding a verb to clothing to get the cloth amount back.
>tourniquete
Don't they put some sort of timer on a person? I could look into belts being used for this if that's the case.

tourniquets are very last ditch efforts because they're designed to stop blood flow to a limb as much as possible, if you leave it on too long the limb begins to die from lack of blood flow.

all clothing or shit like that needs an action that can rip it apart and the shears were a silly bandaid fix
if we could have ripped jumpsuits or other cloth things apart in the first place we wouldn't really need to consider this because I could just nude myself or my patient to save his life
tourniquets are only ever used as a last resort if you can't get the bleeding to clot on its own or if you are dealing with avulsion of a limb to the extent that a major artery is bleeding. I think if just the artery is cut and the only thing that is majorly bleeding, it may be better to try and reach in and clamp the artery itself but that's just short term

if you ever need to apply one you're going to be cutting all blood off to that limb and a lot of the blood won't easily make a return trip to the lungs for oxygen, so the affected area beings dying. That's why first responders want you to mark the exact time you put one on so they know how fucked the limb is going to be when they take it off.

Tourniquets are literally not even used in modern first aid.

>being too unrobust to get his hands on shears or cloth
What happened to "git gud", freeman?

I keep bandages in my wallet like a proper powergamer, it's just you should be able to do common sense things like use clothing in an emergency adien let people rip their jumpsuit into shreds while it is still on them so they can act like a true retard entering rage mode

Please vote.
www.strawpoll.me/5815270/

does that fucking noguns still play here? ugh

When has SS13 ever been about common sense? Read the wiki and git gud. Dying is Fun, that's why you have respawns.

nice meme
I bet you liked clicking the middle of a tile and then dying to burns on your feet from trying to grab a lightbulb with your uncovered hand

Right, I forgot that you once restarted the server because you used up your last respawn putting yourself into crit on a lightbulb.

...

why are noguns allowed on the server anyway

I was thinking maybe using a belt on a leg/arm will stop bleeding from that limb and instead deal mangle. Then when the limb reaches max damage in mangle it will fall off.
Maybe ripping up clothing could result in bandages directly instead of cloth.
Plugging arteries with a finger? I thought about just letting people grab themselves and have these self grabs reduce bleeding.

no too complicated
leave tourniquets out for now
grabbing a limb that's bleeding can probably help stop it

>Plugging arteries with a finger?
maybe you should take a first aid course or at least google the subject matter before adding a bunch of dumb shit that makes no sense

I was asking if that's what freeman meant when he said:
>try and reach in and clamp the artery itself

freeman is a 12 year old who posts on /k/, you probably shouldnt listen to them about first aid advice

clamping an artery does not mean plugging it with a finger

How would you clamp it before getting medical attention then? Wirecutters seem like the only other option beside hemostat.

don't bother with something that isn't ever used

>hmm im doing emergency first aid with improvised tools

>better dig around in a wound near an arterial bleed to "clamp it" instead of just putting pressure and a bandage

freeman have you graduated high school yet you fucking noguns

yes
im not saying it is encouraged medical practice to reach into an arm where a cut artery is and close it
just that stopping one from bleeding is difficult short of a touriquet

You can already pull objects out of your wounds with your hands but doing this will increase bleeding.

It's certainly an option when the bleeding is so severe direct pressure with a bandage is doing next to nothing.

Tourniquets still sound like a better thing to have, as a feature, than putting your hand in your wound. Especially since a grab will be used to recude bleeding on a limb. Plus most people carry belts by default.

Any spessmen want to join me on the server?

We got 5 people on now guys, come on and join.

why is this thread for a literally who server and not for Veeky Forums

does it have anything to do with the 2014 drama

shut up father relaxe
___________:^) _______

This is a server by and for fa/tg/uys.

>2014 drama
???

so was Veeky Forums

errorage shit himself and Veeky Forums basically turned into a recreation of the horus heresy.

TG came out of the ashes.

>was
hmhm

4 people ready
get in here

You answered it yourself "Was" is the operative word. TGstation is no longer Veeky Forums this is as Veeky Forums as you're going to get.

>7 ready

>wizard round lasts less than 15 minutes
>wizard gibs everyone and calls the shuttle
this is why wizard is for 30+ players

I hate cunts like that because cunts like you get mad and then poop all over fun game modes
Its called
DOOR
WIZARD
you shitters, have fun casting spells and being a pseudo admin you jizz wizz play the game to play the game not to "win"
what if we made not having fun a banable offense :^)

>Mother
>Fucking
>LASER EYES

Shame I couldn't have given you three super hearts, the laser eyes and space breathing lungs.

>Tourniquets still sound like a better thing to have,
Tourniquets are not a part of modern first aid and the Hemostat already fills its role in invasive surgery. They're a stupid addition. Just make bandages stop bleeding; it's literally what they're for in real life.

If bleeding is that severe, the person is probably well beyond bandaging up for first aid, is well into shock, and is probably going to die. Even in cases of amputation, modern first aid doctrine is to bandage it. The bandage will soak with blood and, like a wet towel folded on itself, allow excess fluid to pool. Blood pressure is not high enough to force fluid through a properly-selected dressing, even on arterial bleeds.

t. someone who received an arterial-bleeding wound once

Braindeads, monkeys and corpses are good for more than just meat and genetics, they're great for blood as well!

>Fucking around with Slare for a few hours
>showing him the cool new shit for medical
>using a braindead guy as a blood farm since he has O+ blood
>he has 6 kidneys, 3 livers and 2 hearts
>he comes back as I'm draining him into a canister
>asks what the fuck is happening
>explain everything
>his response
>"That's... pretty scary."

Why the fuck is Father Relaxe still allowed on this server?

Oh yeah, Aiden, I found a weird bug with organs, if you remove someone's liver or damage, whatever is in their blood stream doesn't process away. this can make you effectively immortal if you stick yourself with inaprov and prevents poisons and sleep toxin/chloral from affecting you. Of course you doom yourself to never being able to heal toxin damage and drugs not healing you. You're also fucked because you lock yourself to slow speed moving because you'll get hungry and thirsty.

Why are noguns allowed on this server?

Post your guns, time stamp and at least 3 loaded magazines for each gun.

>it's 4 am

you first laddo

what do you not live in a house with lights or something? just shut the blinds, flick the lights on, take em out and post pictures. You're the one screaming about no-guns.

Because this is a proguns server and antigun noguns soccer mom shills need to fucking go. Like you. where are YOUR guns? you fucking antigunner piece of shit. you are NOT WELCOME here.

Oh you're the same guy who shit posts about father relaxe, shoulda figured when the poster count wasn't going up, here's your (You).

Do us all a favor and post your Ckey then kys.

Why do noguns insist on ruining our server?

You should have to pass a marksmanship test before playing here. Noguns are the cancer killing d20. Just look at Relaxe..........

its a meme you dip

...

Ay anyone up for some early morning spaceman?

5 people yo, let's get this shit going.

...

So turns out birdshots lose half their damage to drofoff after 3 tiles, due to how this mechanic works. Right now I'm looking at delaying the dropoff until after the first 3 turfs. This increases the maximum effective range of ranged weapons from melee to 3.

Alternatively I could change the way the dropoff works for specific ammo types. Right now every bullet loses a flat amount of damage after every turf and this affects buckshots/birdshots way harder because they have multiple low damage bullets. I could turn this flat amount into something the bullet has as a var and change it for the ammo types that have issues.

I'd say bump it up the drop off distance to at least 5 tiles and reduce the amount of damage fall off, because .8 per tile is way too much.

damage dropoff needs only apply at long distances i.e down hallways and even then it's a bullet and should still be lethal after what is to scale about 50 meters or 20 tiles

The pellets from birdshot shells are reduced to 0 damage after 7 turfs right now.

Yeah, as it is right now, after 7 tiles birdshot does absolutely zero damage. You lose about 5 damage from 7 tiles away, which is quite a bit, especially since it's completely flat scaling.

which is dumb because the spread will already make the damage shit

why are shotgun shells suddenly becoming shotguns from call of duty? I don't think we even need damage drop off for anything beyond muh realisms, even then you wouldn't get any noticeable damage drop from distances illustrated in this game on a cramped space station.

>I don't think we even need damage drop off for anything beyond muh realisms
Well it's always been in the game.

I agree with Freeman here, damage drop off wouldn't even happen unless you were shooting someone at the medbay desk from the wall in arrivals.

if each tile is about 2.5 meters according to him, that means the station is roughly 120 meters from arrivals to medbay desk by 180 meters from the gas mixing room to the comms console. Which for the rifles in the game, wouldn't make much of a difference.

The majority of fights would happen within the same department anyways so you shouldn't have drop off at all.

then why is birdshot and buckshot just now not hurting anything

I know there has been "inaccuracies" associated with projectiles after range in that they deviate from the targeted body part (which usually works more to your advantage anyways), but not damage drop off to this scale. And that wouldn't be a good reason to keep it in anyways.

>just now
We only just now gathered data on this. So it's always been like this except we're only now finding it out.
I'll diff the file, see when it was added if at all.

It's been in the game since September 10th 2015.

Odd, I've never really noticed it in game until now.

Me either, but when the last time you were slapping your victim with a health analyzer after every shot?

Good point, I've never really got my hands on the shotgun either because either A someone else took or B since it's such a pain in the ass to carry I just took a sec pistol instead.

there could be other factors that are just now having it show

might be a side effect of your medical system or something, i've never noticed these shells getting such horrible damage fall off until now

Yeah, I noticed around the same time as the new medical update, I shot a dude a bunch of times with the shotgun and he barely felt it, which lead me to do some testing of my own when the server was empty. Interestingly, because of the way how bleed works, birdshot and buckshot only really cause superficial wounds.

that and being able to layer armor vests without too much pentaly are probably contributing to breaking everything

oh fuck armor stacking is so broken
>playing HoS
>stack dermal and hat and stab vest and HoS coat
>Be stupid and let Aiden get into bridge
>This goes as expected when he locks me into the armory
>manage to escape by the skin of my teeth with all my stuff when slips on his own trap
>intense firefight all round
>he finally gets me in medbay because I was bleeding bad and you lose hunger and thirst way too quick
>stuns me
>spends TWO eguns trying to take me down and a taser and a half keeping me stunned
>tries harmbatoning me but armor absorbs the blow
>finally die after he hits my legs enough

Although thankfully, you can't ever get full coverage on all your limbs, and getting decent coverage for limbs requires stealing the HoS coat.

Although spawning as a captain and stacking the captain's armor that spawns in the locker in the captain's office can give you 100 resistance to every common form of damage in the game o n your torso and groin.

>side effect of your medical
Nope. Although I did change something in the function that deals damage after armor for projectiles, my code isn't run until after the damage is applied. The numbers have been fudged for a while now it just took:
>which lead me to do some testing
for people to find out.
>torso and groin
They're both chest.
