And yet the setting consistently depicts every mid and lower hive as a gang infested shithole where every child and granny carries a piece for their own safety, and are so deadly that the Astartes recruit from them. In general, the Imperium seems to feel gun control beyond "Keep rare and deadly weapons out of the hands of oiks" is a waste of time and harder than simply killing or pressganging said oiks whenever they get too uppity.

Not all Imperial planets are Hive Worlds. And even those that are aren't equal. Any kind of gun control stance is possible for Imperial planets. Cadia and Krieg, where everyone is a soldier.Maybe a richer Hive where everyone carries due to tradition, not really for protection. Another Hive only allows civilians to use pistols using cartridges. A more extreme Hive completely bans any kind of weaponry if the civilian isn't an (ex) PDG; IG or Arbites.
I liked how they depicted gun control in the Shira Calpurnia trilogy. Gangers wielding pistols or melee weapons of any kind were treated as any other criminal, but if you pulled out a shotgun in the presence of the Arbites that was an automatic death sentence.

Biology. The organ implants don't take within a female body, in fact they aren't so common to take in male bodies either.

If there were female space marines they'd probably look quite a lot like males, especially in armor. Facial structure and voice would be the only real defining traits to separate them.

Fantasy biology. Between super science and warp magic you could have troops that fight like Ultramarines and look like Sailor Moon. And if that's what you want to paint up and put on the table, I'll be happy to blast them into chili con carne.

I don't think anyone is concerned over what you do with your tabletop miniatures, but if I'm running Deathwatch, I'd prefer not to bend the lore over stuff like that.
