Infinity General - Veteran's Day Edition (Also Polish independence day)

Infinity is a 28mm scale futuristic skirmish game by Corvus Belli where veterans know how to let the kids have their turn (and CB gives out an alien prisoner for the Poles to make weird implications)

I've got a bunch of these a few years back for a Marines Biker Squad I ultimately didn't make... Should I just put those on some Morats then?

Tell me your nit picks. What do you hate about infinity?

My personal un-favorites are:

The release schedule makes no sense, you get told enough information ahead of time to get you excited but in the end you're left in the dust for a long time on missing profiles, upcoming models, etc.

Most female HI suck and look like pin-up dolls and are hard to assemble.

Re-used poses.

ARE YOU TEAM LEILA OR TEAM ZHUANG?

LET THE FIGHT BEGIN! #HalalBooty #ChinkCowboy

>crucial models still missing after months/years
>size sexual dimorphism
>blatant scale errors (domaru, new zhanshi box)
>burst is the only stat that matters in a weapon
>598763 CC skills (each with distinct levels) that never actually get used
>AHD means Carbonite one trick pony
>tactical debris is getting out of hand

Also I forgot
>Nested rules (rules within rules within rules)
>ITS specialist clown fiesta
>doubtful loadouts are released while extremely crucial loadouts are still missing (where the fuck is my rifle Wu Ming REEEEEEEEEEE)

Yes I have some stones in my shoes. Still absolutely love this game though.

Female HI are often a problem, with Mobile Brigada being the worst example.

Some weird rulings for some units (like Teutons or Acontecimento past nerfs in general).

The fact that they don't advertise the fluff better. Would hiring one guy to do a weekly column on random fluff stuff be too much? I didn't know what kind of wildlife NeoTerra had until the RPG preview came out. Did you know they actually have drop bears there? While Varuna section only has a broad description of the Helots, not even a sketch of what they look like.

Nested rules and some stuff being only in FAQ, like Religious Troop interacting with V: Courage granted by Martial Arts (which is pretty damn common).

Morats? I thought the choice was obvious.

Honestly, over-sexualized female minis. Not trying to fapfinity bait, but it frustrating to see some super solid female minis (Jan ML, Hellcats, Wildcats) and some in a stupid booty pop pose with bare midriffs. Knowing that those damn guatemalans can sculpt some of the best female minis on the market and release stupid looking pinup trash really gets my goat. Goes double when the sexbait mini is the profile you want to use.

>Tell me your nit picks
Glad you asked, since you copied my theme here's my post:

- Dispersion. It changes every edition and every edition finds new and inventive ways to fuck it up.
- Criticals. Don't get me wrong, I love the crits themselves. My problem is that CB doesn't seem to take them into account when costing units, hence TAGs/HI seem overrated and high-burst weapons are so much useful for their cost compared to their B1 counterparts. Play a few games without crits and suddenly the pricing makes much more sense, TAGs are harder to kill, MLs etc. are more worth it.
- Suspicious costs - Posthumans (plain bullshit), HRL (more than just undercosted, it's a suspiciously big dip in cost compared to alterinatives), chain rifles (why ever take an unlinked warband with combi/rifle/BS when you can take another chain-smoker and one will survive, especially since they can smoke-dodge on 15+), high B weapons (see above).
- Sectorial-based release cycle - releasing stuff for multiple factions each month is fine... unless you're one of a ton of sectorial-based people. You got into the game for cyber-samurai? Well fuck you, wait a year while ISS gets their fill, maybe you'll get some random release in the meantime. Oh wait we got the bowninja, that's it for the Shikami in the foreseeable future.

>bitching continues in next post

- "no profiles left behind" when releasing the new Army builder. Well, except the Shasvastii/MRRF. Sure, they're supposed to get remade (instead of getting a new sectorial) in AF, whenever it comes out. If you're playing these, you're stuck with outdated profiles until they figure out what the fuck they're supposed to be doing. And I'm not talking about revamping the whole sectorials right the fuck now, but about the little but needed things. Morpho-Scan? Unplayable as no currenly available rules (not even FAQ, last I checked it wasn't even updated in the wiki). Also lost Protheion, we still pay for it. Protheion lost Dogged, did it get cheaper? Lol nope. Protheion is leveled now, do its Shasvastii experts get it? It took over a month to get them to acknowledge there's even an issue. Haris? Haha fuck no, muh precious balance would be destroyed by giving some secondary unit haris like literally every other sectorial (let's make the cheap line unit not linkable at all instead). Oh, and Warcor Aerocam having no rules for ages is the cherry on top.
Miniatures:
- female minis - Bare midriff in full armor/suit (getting better though). Catwalk poses while males have sensible ones (getting better too, if slowly). Tiny hands to the point where they look like miscasts. Tiny weapons (see below).
- Weapon sizes - FFS, give the women lighter/compact versions, but calibers don't scale that way. Same goes the other way, Gecko combis look ridiculous.
- Tactical shit on bases. I didn't mind having it every once in a while until every single fucking AD started to land on some junk (it was rightly mocked in comic strips years ago when I was starting). Also, tailored tactical debris with unit logo on it (Uhlan and I think new Akalis?)

>bitching still continues

- Rampant copy-pasting. In traditional sculpting you had to put similar effort per model whether you made a similar or different pose/design, so models tended to be more original. Now there's a ton of "change the pose in CAD, switch a detail or two, done". This would be acceptable for a same-unit box, but we're starting to see half of PanO/YJ use the same armor model. Realistic? Maybe, but if I wanted to paint identical stuff I'd play Space Marines.
- I wonder in which world the Samaritan mini that tips over every time you think of him the wrong way is acceptable. Not to mention the whole "S6 pretending to be S2" thing. Why yes I'd like to pay more for tactical cabbage I'd have to saw off if I wanted to actually play with that (and inb4 "it's a display model" the breaker combi pose looks shit too).
- Scale creep. Self-explanatory and discussed at length.

>bitching starts getting too specific to continue

Dumb poses: Uhlan, Foxytrot, Devil Dogs, male Domarus, Scylla, etc etc. It's much more annyoing when they already have a perfect template for that pose whether it's the artwork or previous version of the model.

Outdated models that could really use resculpts: JSA, MO, CHA, PanO Support box, etc etc. Shitty old models is what keeps me from starting certain armies.

Some shit still need miniatures (for me it's mostly Ekdromoi Hacker and Thorakitai. But there's far more for others). It's even more annoying when they need just that one option like the Proxy Mk2 Hacker or Asura Hacker.

Still no updated Joan miniature that doesnt come with a 40-50usd book that I dont need/want.

No premeasuring. I've played other games with and without, premeasuring is faster and better for everyone.

Needing to be base to base to gain cover. You can only see my through this tiny window but I'm not technically touching the wall tough luck for me.

Icepick grip. I don't dislike the concept of it, but it's been like a fucking pandemic lately. It's even used on swords, which is stupid in concept and stays stupid every step of the way.

Female HI being twiggy and barely looking like they're in armour. With Riot Grrls and Asuras it makes sense, but the female Mobile Brigada just look pathetic next to the males.

Reused poses when they don't fit the unit. With Zhuang being an easy example to point to.

Balance. They were doing incredibly well until HSN3, but you can't tell me Posthumans and Ghazi are fair.

A Multi sniper being 9 points more than an heavy rocket. I'm not sure why, they've always seemed about as good as each other to me.

Game's still good though.

>MSR vs HRL
I suppose the advantage of the MSR is that you get DA and AP rounds in ARO

Just had my first infinity match this evening (playing Ariadna). Now I've got a question relating to the light grenade launcher: Does the grenade automatically deviate 40 cm (I guess 16 inches) if I fail the BS roll?

I'm pretty sure template deviation was removed in N3

Sorry I meant the light smoke grenade launcher. But I don't know if there's a difference if it comes to failed BS rolls.

Its a bit of a mess. Many template *attacks* just fizzle as currently written, but the deviation rules are still in use for AD.

That reminds me. AP ammo is almost useless except against TAGs/heavy HI, which few people use. Would be much better if it affected ARM bonus from cover.

>Tags/HI, which hardly anyone uses
Depends on your meta bro. We see TAGs and HI all the time.

I play iss and I can't even go without a HI

Weapons no longer deviate. If you fail the BS roll nothing happens.

Deviation only happens on AD now.

I see HI all the time. The thing that makes AP ammo seem useless is that things like the HRL or shotguns have a template mode which ignores the +3 ARM bonus from cover. So unless you're rocking 8+ ARM template weapons are just plain better.

>USAriadna
>Two Kazak units
wat

...

The trick is to not select the thumbnail.

I think I'll like Leila better. Yuriko is still the best Yu Jing Dire Foe for me.

As an aside, AP mode on a Multisniper is only better than DA against Avatars and Jotums. Even against most TAGs DA is the superior option.

Going to be getting back into the game after a long hiatus. Gonna start/attempt an Iron Man League.

Rules are as follows.

1 profile maximum for each unit. AVA still applies (Only one Chain Rifle Kuang Shi for example).
1 specialist of each type allowed (Up to 1. Engineer/Doctors count towards your max of 1).
1 Combat Group.
1 Command Token. (Adv Command is nullified)
No Reserves (Strategies II drops allowing a single model).
1 List. (If playing a tournament or league game that night.)

>he fact that they don't advertise the fluff better.
This bothers me, since I can know so little about the world by just browsing around.

>What do you hate about infinity?

-Nested Rules
-Lack of resculpts of really old models (Szalamandra...)
-Some really, really pointless loadouts
-Lack of fluff advertising
-Dispersion
-Fucking Criticals. I'm completely sick of instances such as losing FtFs to a B1 unit hitting on

>Female HI's are too twiggy

It can be solved by pretend that some of the "male" suits was actually had a militarized fit girls in it.

I'll always do it on WuMing, Crane, Al Fasid, Az'rail and MBs, and it super effective.

>Scale creep

It already estabished that the RV boxes are the staple for modern Infinity scales thought, and it already been consistent for this past seasons.

i actually kinda relieved they left those twiggy N2 scale behind, shit's sucks man

>Not enough pinup-style units. I don't care about your special snowflakes at the LGS. I like looking at attractive people in tight and/or skimpy clothing, and I'm going to financially support a company that gives me that

You're my hero for today. Which, admittedly, is for the next hour and 45 minutes. But still.

Fuck all those sexually repressed people. Enjoy looking at some ass.

I think there's a difference between this and the shotgun foxtrot and retarded stuff like the brigada that has to be a fucking skeleton to fit in her suit.

No there isn't. Assuming there's a helmet involved, if I can see enough of a model's figure to be able to tell if it's male or female, then it has absolutely no reason to be on a table representing a battlefield. Gender of models shouldn't even be an issue: they should all be sculpted the size and shape of men because women who are capable of fighting are going to look like that anyway. Women who have model-quality bodies shouldn't be part of the game except (at most) as HVTs.

Sculpting a model in skimpy enough battledress that you can tell it's female is incredibly sexist and CB needs to knock it off.

I'm pretty sure even the hardest "This is sexist!!!" and "Every unit must have females even if there is lore reasons for them not to!" idiots don't think like that.

Well then some people still like their twiggy fem armor user.

If you soo autistic about it then just grab those "male" suit and pretend there's a girl in it, and sell those twiggy fem suit to other players that not as autistical as you.

Shit man, they just pander to their customers and then you said its stupid and wrong?

I like ass as much as the next guy, but I also like heavy armour. There's plenty of LI and MI for your skimpy tight pant needs. Bulky power armour is the realm of HI, if they're just the same with silver bits painted on then what's the point? Male HI are bulky, why not females?

>Male HI are bulky, why not females?

Because what's inside the armor is bulky, obviously, and even power armor in this setting is essentially form-fitting.

Also, because based Spaniards give zero fucks about your country's sexual hangups. They sculpt what they like sculpting; would you prefer they slog through sculpting things they hate for a paycheck? In that direction lie a bevvy of GW-style female "sculpts".

>Armor should be skin tight with 1 mm plates
>Unless it's on men, then it has to be an actual suit with 1 cm plates
Kek.

>Unless it's on men, then it has to be an actual suit with 1 cm plates

The female models ARE using armor that's about 1cm thick, though. I think you're forgetting how thin 1cm is. Shit, the Agroterra Bolt cosplay was using foam plates 2-4cm thick, and it showed her off just fucking fine.

But, regardless, if it better shows off an attractive female form, then yes, I support it. I literally do not care if it makes "sense". There's fucking battle nuns dressed in leotards and furries and whores in chinese dresses and aliens in the goddamn game. Get over yourself.

>Sculpt
PanO and Yu Jing are supposed to look more unified. Also as much as I hate copying and pasting poses, I how they never go back to hand sculpting.

>Samaritan
To be fair that's what the silhouette attributea are for...but yeah, CB went full retard with the Samaritan

>scale
Icestorm set the new standard for the scale.....That said. The size difference with the Jannisary HMG and the Box really pissed me off.

>Pinup style models
I agree to an extent. It's what attracted me to the game, and I still love them. I really like the current rate of pinupy models. IMO there's just enough without being overdone.

The fem brigada armor only really needs to be scaled up a bit. Doesn't have to be bulked up. Honestly, their size was the least of my complaints. Their poses were just plain dull.

The Wu Ming's armor is about as thick compared to the body inside in both, males and females.

Stuff like the brigada is actually much thinner on the female, to the point it looks like there is a skeleton inside the suit and the suit has been grafted on the body in place of skin and muscle. Which is some hardcore cyberpunk shit that would be awesome as fuck if it was on purpose.

There is making sense (The wu ming's arms are stupidly thin on both males and females) and then there is having no inner consistency within your own world (The brigada's armor is a completely different thickness on the female, despite being the same model suit).

Except they've made female HI before without stick insect limbs, and those look good. I haven't even got anything against the boobplate and robot ass, just those ridiculous tiny limbs.

The poses definitely don't help, and neither do those helmets.

I bet some fucking Bakuninite designed the MB suits.

The problem with female Brigada is how big male Brigada is.
With things like ORCs female armour not being too bulky is not a problem, because male ORCs aren't that big either. But Brigada towers over the ORC, despite being in the same weight class as him. So when female Brigada are as tiny as Riot Grrls it's really jarring.
The other thing is that we have Janissaires with a female armour as bulky as the male ones.

I like pinup models as much as the next guy, got into the game because of Daktari and Carlota Kowalsky. But like some guys above, I like really bulky HI armour as well. I have no problem fielding ORC HMG or Saber Joan, but the twiggly little fem Brigadas are what's stopping me from getting the box. It's just a case of these particular models looking really bad, not a game-wide disliking of fem armour.

Zhuang probably does more for the army he's with, but that is counterbalanced by having the worse model.

>awkward as shit poses (looking at you, female auxilia)
>open-visor helmets (the worst fucking thing)
>arbitrary assignment of LT profiles
>Burst is the be-all, end-all stat
>release of new books is slow as molasses
>some sectorials are still years out

>Except they've made female HI before without stick insect limbs, and those look good. I haven't even got anything against the boobplate and robot ass, just those ridiculous tiny limbs.

dude just say that your black and like large gorrila looking females with huge arms.

I have broad and varied tastes.

So Blood Bowl is back.
CB's response when?

It's actually been in the lore since 2nd Edition. Mentioned briefly in the background about Airadna

If that is the pilot, who's the dude looking out from the top?
Also, is the Raichu any good?

That's a robot face you goof.

I meant as an actual tabletop game.

That's no dude, that's a camera. Nobody is quite retarded enough to have their head sticking out of their mech.

I like that people keep going back to that whole laughable "sexually repressed" argument, simply because some of us prefer to be turned on by real women rather than toy soldiers.

If you like anorexic pinup models next to your proper soldiers then good for you, but stop pretending that the only reason someone might find that stupid is because they are a prude.

>but stop pretending that the only reason someone might find that stupid is because they are a prude.
Name another?

Except the Tau.

It took me a long time to notice the little arms at the waist.

Not that user, but I'll give it a go.

1: I'm not a fan of inconsistency within a unit. This is a case where I'll contrast MB and Wu Ming. In the case of the former the men are fucking huge with obviously thick armour plates covering their body, while the women look like they're wearing glorified skinsuits (and they probably are, goddamn Nomads). Wu Ming on the other hand look quite similar regardless of gender. A slight size difference, a different body shape and a little boobplate is all the chick has to differentiate herself, and as a result she fits in well (maybe not so much in terms of pose, but that's a different issue). Stuff like Riot Grrls is fine though. 'Sexy' is what they're going for across the entire unit.

2: Bulky armour is my fetish.

>all this hating on over-sexualized female minis.

I suppose different strokes for different folks. I for one am apparently a terrible individual, because "stupid looking pinup trash" is precisely the sort of thing that I like. Are combat heels stupid? Definitely. But they're pretty and nice.

>that complete lack of trigger discipline

Shit fap-bait/10

>2: Bulky armour is my fetish.
Sorry, but I cannot hold myself

Since you mentioned me, my comment about sexual dimorphism was about the ridiculous scale difference within certain units like the Mobile Brigadas where males and females may as well be from different troop types.
Nothing wrong with a bit of sexy, love me some pinup poses here and there (when done well).

Please explain to me the appeal of high heels. I don't have a problem with people liking them as long as they don't try to put those moronic anti-shoes on me, but I just don't understand why they're so beloved and I'd like to.

WIP and actually kind of crappy but I told you I would frelling do it! Off-brand AANG!

It does a few things. It changes how the wearers calves look by slightly pushing the muscle upwards and it makes their hips higher which for most men means it's closer to groin level which has obvious appeal.

It changes how the wearer walks giving a bit more "swing" to the hips in order to move comfortably and encourages the chest to stick out forward and the hips to push out backwards.

It's not appropriate for a battlefield at all but try to fine comparison videos from the side of someone walking in flats and then in heels. You'll see it right away if the heel is fairly high.

It also hastens the onset of osteoarthritis in the knee, hip and ankle and can cause back problems. All good things have a price and so on.

Diggin the concept thin your paints

They've also been known to cause an extremely hasty onset of eatshititis.

Thin your paints. The forehead arrow is well done though.

So I see a lot of "your dudes" with other games, how much if a thing is that in infinity. I play ISS and usually run an agent, so assuming it's an agent working much at his own discretion alongside a bunch of henchmen sort of works. Are there a lot of people who run things like that here? What do Infinity armies normally represent?

>Rescue & Highly Classified being two missions at the german championship
>German players think Highly Classified is balanced and Rescue is not cancer

>What do Infinity armies normally represent?
Usually spec ops performing black ops or small strike teams.
In actual war squads of TAGs are used.
My PanO is in Winter Camo and I basically fluff them as Nilfheim border guard. When Svalarheima sectorial drops I'm going all in.
ISS is basically law enforcement with little regulations, so an agent basically doing what he wants to fight the enemies of the State-Empire is pretty plausible.

I like it.

As someone who is consistently told to thin my paints when showing photos I will assume it's the camera making it look thick. It's frustrating as fuck.
People who have seen my photos first and then the models IRL did explicitly tell me I take shit photos.

Yeah, yeah, I've heard it before. Would you believe me if I told you I tried my best to thin my paints, did four thin coats of yellow and that the yellow I was using was kind of spoiled and gritty? I think it got too cold one time I was moving from Cleveland. This "joke" model will likely not see the light of day very often like that one time I tried winter camouflage on a remote. So my caring is diminished as what other stuff I usually paint is usually pretty decent and at least I'm painting.

Anyways, here's the final product (or the point where I gave up). Oong is the pride of Huang Di. The only smoke-bender left.

It varies. As I never bought a rulebook what I have from the fluff is what I can gather from unit descriptions and the one scan of N2 HS. I feel like I've got a decent picture though. Most of the infinity armies are 100% deniable operations, usually pushed from corporate espionage or that crap. I'd imagine what I read from the booklets of op: Icestorm and Red Veil decently reflect the overall setting. TAGs fight in squadrons in actual wars (i.e. Guijia squadrons while only being AVA 1). These guys are all the best of the best. The badasses people call in for semi-secret operations. Frankly, it oversaturates the fluff and makes unit descriptions corny.

So given the low availability of fluff, they kind of end up as my own dudes. My JSA are all differently colored from the official White/Red or Orange/Green schemes, and I painted Oong here completely off the wall, but I've seen many people just prefer to stick the vanilla schemes and descriptions actually liking them. So it is overall pretty mixed.

Is there anywhere I can find PDF scans of the Fluff books from the N3 core book and Human Sphere N3?

I've been trying to explain the setting to some friends of mine online and they keep getting confused.

This is why I feel like we need to start a project up for an Infinity Wiki.

I remember there's at least a pdf of N2 HS floating around the web. Not sure if I can link it here but I basically googled "infinity human sphere pdf" and it was the fourth result on scribd.

Most fluff is hard to find outside of unit descriptions because then that would tempt you to buy the rulebooks with the fluff in it.

Personally for mine, I've got
>Haqqislam
Taskforce Hadir, on paper a counter-terrorism unit based on Bourak - the idea being that since Haqq was my first army all the terrain I'm making is Haqqislam themed, so it makes sense for them to be a home territory force.
>Combined Army
Terrorist unit on a deep infiltration ship. Basically the aliens from XCOM:EU's Terror! missions, letting humanity know that nowhere is safe.
>Nomads
HIVE, a crew of morally bankrupt mercenaries, colour scheme based off the mercs from Haze.
>Yu Jing
Currently fluffless.

The only one I've done any real fluff on is the Haqqislam guys, but now that Infinity's finally gaining a foothold in my area I'm gonna be working on all three of them to some extent.

Hopefully they give us units from Dog bowl in infinity and not a game. Cos that would be awesome.

There's already an Infinity Wiki.

What we need is an Infinity Wikia for the fluff.

I was talking with a friend. We were thinking about a football themed impetuous doggo specialist with D charges. The sculpt is holding a football shaped ball of d charges. They are crazy assholes obsessed with scoring, and they do victory dances whenever they "score" by planting a d charge.

Is this game more popular than warmahordes?

I think it's the least popular of the popular miniature games.

Short answer No. Long answer, No, but it is more popular than Warmahordes in select parts of Europe.

Could you specify those parts?

Likely Spain, because that's where the game is from, and probably Poland, because Warmahordes does not have an official distributor there IIRC (and Polish hobby store chains love having exclusive distribution rights).

I don't give a single fuck about "my dudes". I like the fluff, but when I play the game I ignore any backstory the gaming pieces might have unless it directly affects the mechanics. If I wanted that I'd play the RPG.

>just grab those "male" suit and pretend there's a girl in it

honestly, this. it works for Spartan 458 in Dead or Alive 4 and for Samus in Metroid.
Plus then if when you win a match you also get to have the smug satisfaction of your sensibly armored female troops killing all those filthy filthy whores in the sexist pig you're playing against's army or however you want to spin it

I don't care about the sexism angle, I just like chunky power armor. You'd expect the male and female suits to be just as bulky, give or take a tiny amount. They still need the same amount of servos/artificial muscles and armor as the others.

Female brigada are twigs.

Its also surprisingly popular in parts of the UK

fits way to well into Ariadna lore.

>Ace Ventura

Since the Icestorm release it's gaining considerable traction here in Italy too, nowadays it seems everyone and their mother is playing infinity.

Wow that moderator guy is thicc. And what even is going on with the riot girl and moira.

Colossus Morlock looks great. The rest I'll ait for clearer pics.

Alright, new Onyx player from a couple of threads back here with a couple of questions.

- How many specialists is a reasonable number to aim for at 300? I'll probably always have the nexus hacker LT and dr worm, who seems too good to ever leave at home, as well as a EVO-drone and a FO-drone, as both e- and m-drones seem very useful.

- Do repeaters need to be in the same combat group as the hacker that want's to use them? For all the lovely drons and stuff I'll need two combat groups...

- HRL or plasma sniper overdron? To my understanding both would work well active and reactive (though I think the bonus to burst only works during active turn?). Plasma ammo seems neat, but fire seems hardly bad, either, and the cheaper price would mean an additional r-drone.

- How does the imetron work exactly? I can't really wrap my head around that, it seems. Must he deploy per Combat Jump? Does that mean he doesn't provide orders for the first turn? If so, that seems harsh for a game mostly over by turn three.

Sorry for all the possibly stupid questions, but the game is pretty involved and I still struggle with large swaths of it.

Also, I've since added a box of unidrons, xeodrons, an overdron, ikadron and imetron and a corax spec-ops (which, I'm given to understand, can be used as a nexus for the time being) to my CA starter, the drone remotes and the support pack. Lovely models.

I tend to keep around six or seven specialists. Usually with a couple or three that can gungho for objectives by some means (an example being malignos for Onyx).

Repeaters just have to be on the table to use them. Don't need to Ikadrons to share in with your E-Drone.

For overdron is matter what points you got to fill/spare. I tend to lean for HRL simply because it's cheaper.

AI Beacon units deploy by air drop before the game starts as per the rules of AI Beacon. So you get them first turn unless they deviate painfully.
