More Songs to Tang to

Last thread died quickly, I'm DMing an AdEva game and need songs to initiate Third Impact to. Something uplifting, bittersweet, to go along with everything tumbling, tumbling down.

>Not playing Komm Susser Tod on endless loop

Don't even touch Evangelion ever again you monster

youtube.com/watch?v=WjFTpBH56WM

Might be a good idea if you want a more personal jab at your players.

youtube.com/watch?v=CGrR-7_OBpA

10/10 would tangify to

Pretty much anything from Cash's last Album is a great fucking idea. He really poured the last bit of his life-force into that thing.

youtube.com/watch?v=kszLwBaC4Sw

David Bowie's final album is good as well.

youtube.com/watch?v=GZ-k3oblIM8

youtu.be/AG9ph9xkOrw?t=1m13s

Elvis last live performance.

Midge Ure
youtube.com/watch?v=cLoytewvn0g

George Michael
youtube.com/watch?v=bG5N3GC-m20

Honestly, dead artists of all kinds.

youtube.com/watch?v=PnXIPV6Jh4Y
Frank Sinatra's way too on the nose final performance

youtube.com/watch?v=_Jtpf8N5IDE

Freddie Mercur, not his last song that would be "the days of our lives" but pretty on the nose

Shit, just look at this video, pick some songs you like

youtube.com/watch?v=3qmvTryPR2I

youtube.com/watch?v=PLUeowS8VNk
suggested it before, gonna do it again

I have to go with this , but will try:

Metric does a really good job at getting that bittersweet feel:

youtu.be/U7lSn4RNqes

Gorillaz has been being revisited for reasons, but On Melancholy Hill seems appropriate:

youtu.be/mjgm3xHr96Q

A lot of the songs I'm picking have a sense of finality to them and probably a tinge of relationship issues, hence Beck:

And something way more up beat:

If you could give us a better sense of the pilots or emotions driving the impact that might give us a direction to choose songs from.

Party like it's 1999 by Prince. It'll work, trust me.

Well, i'll try, but i cant go too into detail because I know at least one of them browses Veeky Forums.
Most of the pilots are shit at connecting to others.
Some of them hide behind a clinical, cold demeanor, some simply run away, and one writes everyone else off as crazy-to be fair, she's likely right.
Which, in a way, would make the Third impact more horrifying for them, being forced to interact with an untold number of people, on the most fundamental level there is.
I could go more into detail if you want.

Any songs you like so far?

And did you go Christian mythology or something else?

We went lovecraft, though it's slightly understated as of now. not quite clear on the endgame, to be quite honest, thats till in planning.
Im thinking melancholy hill is a good choice. Possibly midge ure or johnny cash's work.
To be honest, though, most of the characters are unaware of their flaws. How can i make it apparent to them without breaking the narrative?

Hate to be the one who recommends anime stuff but skip to 12:50 for Elegy of the Dynast for the perfect EVA song imo. Although they're all great. Fuck, I'm tearing up a little having just listened all the way through now... Might be time for a rewatch.

Lyrics are a fine way to hint at things. Two things you have to figure out with Adeva is:

1) Could the pilots ever actually stop Third Impact?

and

2) How much of the background conspiracy will they accidentally find out?

Caretaker's leaving dossiers, scientists breaking, Angel mindrapes are all ways to hint at both their flaws and insert that conspiracy/why the connections are into the game.

When choosing a song to frame the end game, mind you, you want to make sure you have enough time to say everything you want before the song ends unless you're fine with a loop.

Special mention, for some reason to me post-punk goes very well with 3rd Impact:

I'm enjoying this thread. But excuse my ignorance, what does "tang" mean?

youtube.com/watch?v=b-9fhRh4aPs

I guess... A "sweet sadness" kind of deal?

No, it means literally bursting into orange goo because your soul's being forcibly evicted from your body to join with the rest of humanities' souls and your physical form loses all cohesion without its soul.

Oh. I see. So just the ending really. Thanks for clearing that up.

Some more possibly:

Jesus, I knew I was right to skip End of Evangelion and just leave the shitty ending shitty.

God damn Lacan shit.

Also this is just Dead Space.

youtube.com/watch?v=GWJhD0Eb1lM

I feel the same way some people might feel from Dear Prudence about "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" which is legit about the apocalypse.

When you get tanged, do you literally become gender fluid?

>Metric
Very yes. Also recommended:
>The Shade
>Twilight Galaxy (both normal and Unplugged, get a reprise going there)
>Breathing Underwater
>On The Sly
>The entire Static Anonymity EP

Also consider The Decemberists, as hipster as their sound can be. You Don't Know Me could be good.

Also Gospel music. It's top 40 yeah but Take Me To Church coupd be framed to touch a lot of relevant themes.

No. Just a kick in a glass.

on melancholy hill is perfect tang music

The endings are actually pretty much the same if you think about it. The last 2 eps take place almost entirely in shinji's mind. EoE just shows you what was happening irl.

So you want a melancholy but upbeat piano ballad, maybe 7ish minutes long, that starts with lyrics about an insecure young man, then gives way to an anthemic, practically gospel chorus in its repeated, soaring melody, maybe incorporating an ascending I-VII-IV-I theme at one point or another, of course some powerful and foreboding strings, and then have the whole thing crescendo into a cacaphony of the repeated chorus descending into an ecstatic spiritual orgy? But it can't be Komm, Süßer Tod, because you want something original? Then why not use what was obviously the temp track for the Third Impact scene that was too expensive for Anno to keep, so he had Sagisu write a pastiche of it?

youtu.be/NWP_lqd_8M0
(Shit audio missing the stereo track with most of the instrumentation, because Paul McCartney is a copyright kike)

Seriously, though, Komm, Süßer Tod is a more obvious soundtrack ripoff of Hey Jude than the Imperial March is of Mars: Bringer of War. Beyond having the same structure and transitions between parts, there's even an instrumental part with the exact same melody as the "naaaa naa naa na na na na" part of Hey Jude, except instead of held notes the ascending part is in quarter notes. If you want a popular song with that "tumbling down" feel to replace KST, might as well go with what the original was blatantly ripped off of.

Yeah, Tang was an old orange-flavored drink that was popular among kids in the 90s. It looks exactly like the orange goo from Evangelion, that's why everyone says it.

So, whats everyones favorite third impact alternative? Played, GMed, or just want to see.

>Something uplifting, bittersweet, to go along with everything tumbling, tumbling down.
I've got the perfect song:

Fuck, now I will probably never ever be able to take Third Impact seriously

Only possible answer. Imagine a chorus of giant Rei´s whistling in the sky through their forehead vaginas

youtube.com/watch?v=lWqJTKdznaM

youtube.com/watch?v=AgJLb0Vqr-s

I wish you and I weren't anons because otherwise we'd be best friends right now.

I'll shill what I've seen of NBS in a heartbeat, that direction seems extremely interesting.

In my shortlived game of AdEva, it looked like the GM was placing a lot of control in the manufactured pilot's hands, both who had more of a personality than Rei did, at least at first. A dual or competing Impact or a cancelling effect would have been very cool.

Lovecraft games seem like they lend themselves very well to it, lost cities rising, dreamers awakening, etc.

I have in my head something of a plant aesthetic-a giant, interconnected kudzu swamp of souls rather than a red sea, but I'm not sure what mythology I would tie it off to.

More songs, leaning heavy on that 80s:
