/lwg/-Lego Wars General

So, it seems that LW has decided to show off the newest expansion to the Pirates line.

I feel a little conflicted; on one hand, the kit itself looks really, really good, and it will bring a crap ton of fire power and mobility to pirates in general, along with tge return of the Ghost rules.

On the other hand, its been made under the hand of disney, so its bit op, and kinda lame in fluff.

I plan on picking one up, but I cant help but feel dirty when I think about playing it.

Looks like its going to be shit imo, the exposed bottom means that some dude can just burn it down with the new fire rules, and plus you probably need to by more ghost pirates to actually man all the cannons.

What is this Lego Wars? I have not heard of it.

It's a meme like Chapter Master, where Veeky Forums pretends a wargame exists when it really doesn't

Except several sets of lego wargame rules do exist, making the meme pointless

Disappointing.

But I have had some fun with Brikwars in my day, that is for sure. Thanks for clearing things up.

Right now were working on a new lego styled wargame, thats kind of the opposite of brickwars. We're focusing on making a structured codex for each of the different themes and factions featured in the game.

>It's a meme like Chapter Master
Uh...

The British are going to get a new cheap fighter to spam making them even more blatantly broken matched against other Pirates factions than they already are.

You assume too much: their main armaments are AA rockets, so they aren't going to be that useful in actually attacking ships, and since the Brits are the only Pirates fac that have any aircraft in the first place there's no real use for them if you're just doing mono-theme games. The Sopwith Camel is still going to be the standard on which you build your RAF out of, and its still going to cost you an arm and a leg to procure more than one.

>tfw I bring out Quiky as a hero

Well than your automatically that guy, asshole.

And those Empire fags that cram as many TIEs as they can aren't? 90% of them do nothing but field a single squad of stormies and as many fliers as the points will allow, and it's boring and predictable.

And this was supposed to encourage them to run something else in low points games but sucked so hard that it was discontinued.

Hey so why do people dislike the Power Miners. I mean I've always found their adventures to be quite fun and they can pull off stuff like pick-related, which is the Aero Shredder, an is a combination of the 8958 Granite Grinder and 8960 Thunder Driller Power Miner vehicles. Allowing them to be a shockingly versatile set.

>And those Empire fags that cram as many TIEs as they can aren't?
No.

Because it's an insult to Rock Raiders.

That sounds horrible and completely contrary to what makes playing with legos fun. I can build whatever I want, why would I want to be chained to some shitty codex telling me what models I can use?

It was a fucking sell out, trying to get the playerbase of Rock Raiders, with none of the charm. It missed the point of Rock Riders

Because the alternative is playing a game that attracts people like white eagle

What the fuck are you talking about? Who's that? What information is that screenshot supposed to convey? You got into an argument on Reddit and now you can't use a set of wargame rules?

Codexi (we're going to find a better name for them) are largely guidelines that define how units function within a specific theme. There's nothing stopping you from merging city units with pirates to make your own faction if that's what you like, and while rule support is going to focus on official sets first because they're the easist to stat, there's going to be statlines for unofficial units as well which can be filled in by whatever you desire that fits the rough description.

Think X-Pod, and how it allows both "official" units as well as statlines for theoretical units to be filled by MoCs.

I thought Whiteeagle was one of the guys spearheading the new wargame specifically because he was kicked out of the Brikwars community?

Because sone of us want to play with cohesive themes and armies? Some of us want to have a system that has real stats and rules instead of using dumb shit like"Studs" for movement? Because we like having nicely built kits that looks good?

Brikwars is a ugly, messy system that expects players just to make shit up as they go. There are plenty of reasons that people would want to play with kits, and things made from kits.

Because between City and Rock Raiders, Power Miners feels redunant: why did they have to be a seperate thing from RR in the first place?

It should be added that one of our long term goals is to get the points system sufficiently functional that someone can scratch build a model and have a rough idea of how many points it would cost to field: the final decider to MoCs is always whether everyone playing a specific game agrees to allow the to be fielded, but we're not trying to kraggle your creativity or anything.

White Eagle, for those unitiated, is the namefag who usually pops into any thread related to Legos, and tries to plug in Brikwars. He has a army of Battledroids, and was banned from the official Brikwars forum at some point or another.

Huh, all things considered, that's a pretty reasonable deal. Why NOT playtest to try and improve the game rather than whine at the devs all day.

Though FYI, I also support starting anew because I always hated Brick Wars' movement rules.

>It cost 60 dollarinos to buy a minimally sized squad of elites

This stinks: for that price, you can get no less than 16 royal guards.

Nexo royal guards*. Or soldiers. Shit, they come in four-packs that are sold for 8 dollars now.

>Legos
Brick yourself my man

Now now, not judge the initiate on his inability to properly spell the plural of LEGO, which is of course, LEGO.

>why would I want to be chained to some shitty codex telling me what models I can use?
It doesn't tell you what models you can use. The idea is to provide basic guidelines and stats for each unit in a given army based on official sets from that theme.

For example, city might have a police APC as a vehicle, and the Instruction Manual (codex) will gives some basic size guidelines and stats, but as long as the vehicle you build is vaguely APC-looking, you're all good.

The idea is to allow people to field both their own MOCs and official sets.

BW2005 was actually alright, the core rules were rather simple and easy to pick up. BW2010, on the other hand, is really just a fucking mess at its current state. There are too many intricate details that'd put 40k rulebooks to shame and I can't be arsed to chug that whole thing.

I'm not totally against the rule of fudge, as it could prevent rules lawyering in given situations, but when you have to apply that rule to make the game enjoyable in the first place, something went wrong. So yeah, I kinda get where you are coming from.

Chapter Master only happened after years of memeing about it

There's also Mobile Frame Zero, which makes for one of the better skirmish style wargames I've played

Where did it all go wrong specifically?

Can't put my finger on it exactly. I got into it in 2014 but just by comparing the sizes of the 2005 and 2010, the latter feels overly cluttered with rules that could be easily resolved by WISG rolls. Afaik the 2001 rulebook already got a reputation for getting too carried away with details that could drag games for hours.

As for playing BW myself, I usually just apply very few of the 2010 changes while sticking mostly to the 2005 rulebook.

I was inspired by these threads so I made a wargame ruleset for plastic building brick battles. Not playtested yet.

I know there is a collaboration going on but that's not my thing. Feel free to steal anything you want from these rules though.

These guys look pretty sweet: Nexo before Nexo?

What's wrong with legoes?

Thx, I've made the red-white guys for my futuristic Polish army, whereas the green-white one belongs to my Hungarians.

>make incredibly broken promo hero
>can't reprint it since the promotion is over
>refuse to ban it anyway
FUCK LW

I see nobody responded to this accusation, so I'd like to just get it out of the way. Whiteagle couldn't spearhead shit with his dick. He's definitely not a main contributor to the new game which you can see from the lack of truly massive autism, and the traces of people having fun with jokes about game balance and promos.
