Paizo Games General /pgg/ (also /pfg/)

For your first Starfinder campaign, are you going to be the GM or a player? If GMing, will you use modules or create your own adventures? If playing, what kind of character do you plan to start?

>"A small number of glory seekers look to enter the deadly games in the Halls of the Living, a subterranean city designed specifically for living inhabitants, where cruel reality shows and competitions are arranged as entertainment and broadcast through the Pact Worlds"
What kind of competitions would they have /pgg/?

Death Race, the Wheel of the Worst and some sort of maze running.

Player, ysoki operative with the ghost specialization

Now that the dust has settled...
Operative or Soldier for the best damn sharpshooter alive?

>cruel reality shows

Lt. Squeakers will be a good addition to the team

Good afternoon everyone. Loreanon here, the guy who wrote stuff for the Trees and the Dragons. I finally woke up after a restless sleep, and am here. I'm not quite in the right frame of mind to make up more nonesense like I said I would, however I can answer any question you guys have about the current lore stuff involving the trees, dragons, wastelands, and the other stuff. Except the whale people, Someone else made that stuff, and while its cool I fear I might not be able to talk much about them since I haven't given them much thought

Speaking of Ysokai...

First game tomorrow, as a player. Seeing as I don't yet know the full party composition, I'm preparing three characters to choose from once we're at the table.

1: Android Ghost Operative. Sneak around, pistol people, maybe liberate some Android bros.
2: Human Merc Soldier. Kick in doors and make stuff ded with shooty.
3: Human/Android Mechanic, archetpe undecided. I like the concept of the Drone, but it's like carrying around another player with terrible stats; kinda bad in practise. Exocortex makes your character better in fights and lets you apply certain drone mods (like flight systems) directly on yourself, and the archetype only adds wireless hacking on top of that which is meh.

>SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED
>Techno-Duels as part of the Application process
>Dragon CEOs
>Dragons are now smaller, more nimble and exponentially more fuckable

Alteration: Devolution or Lycanthropy
Conjuration: Rifts opening allowing fiends, star-spawn, etc.
Creation: Sphere of Annihilation
Dark: Massive area of 'Hungry Darkness' except instead of Con damage, is Con burn.
Death: Undead plague
Destruction: spontaneous explosions
Divination: Entire area becomes a Dead Magic zone
Enhancement: Objects spontaneously animate and become hostile to other non-animated objects.
Fate: Entire area becomes a Wild Magic zone
Illusion: Deadly Illusions spontaneously form
Life: Natural and Magical Healing stop working
Light: Radiation sickness
Mind: People are plagued with suicidal thoughts
Nature: spontaneous Earthquakes, Tsunami, Rapid Forest/Jungle Growth, and Volcanoes.
Protection: All structures (buildings, walls, etc) crumble and erode.
Telekinesis: People are randomly bludgeoned or thrown in a random direction.
Time: People are randomly ejected from time, only to reappear with + or - 1d3 age categories.
War: People are plagued with homicidal thoughts
Weather: Weather severity 7 in multiple weather categories (changing every couple hours or days).

Dragons? Or Dragonkin? Because people fucking Dragonkin was already a thing on Triaxus.

>If playing, what kind of character do you plan to start?
Power Armour halfling.

Says Dragonkin, not Dragons. You're right.

>If playing, what kind of character do you plan to start?

I really, really, really want to play a lightly armored Soldier (Ace Pilot) built around being a slippery, quick speedster that stings like a motherfucker.

Player, drow technomancer.

I'm gonna be an ace pilot Shirrens who gets high off of the rush of flying at high speeds while listening to eurobeat

>Weapon Specialization
>Choose one Weapon Group (Small Arms, Longarms, Melee Weapons, etc.) You gain specialization in that weapon type, which means you add your CHARACTER LEVEL to weapon damage while using that weapon type

I hope that's a man, I really do.

I don't visit this general often so I may have missed it. Has the second part of the PoW errata been released yet? How about that thing, manticore spirit or something... do we have a playtest doc for that yet?

In exchange, have some Hell's Burgers.

Feels good, don't it?

I bet there's going to be hardness everywhere when they release the bestiary.

I too will be erect.

I'm not planning to GM it until "Gundams" are added to the game, so I guess it depends on whether I join a game before whenever that happens. When I do, I'll create my own adventures.

Still no Starfinder core book to read through?

Releases on Thursday, I believe. Subscribers have PDFs, but none scrubbed and uploaded yet, to the best of my knowledge.

has intrigue game been announced yet?

A leak has been released a while ago.

Enhanced Resistance is also a feat that gives you DR or Energy Resistance equal to your character level!

A link to the full leak has been posted in almost every thread.

>He doesn't have the secret scrubbed PDF

because flat images are much safer
pdf has more trickery to it

I'll start combing the previous thread, but I figured I'd check because it's not in the pastebin.

I'm pretty sure picks are midnight on the GM's timezone, to maximize the pain.

>I just want to see the new pathfinder player companion for my monthly dose
>all anybody cares about is Starfinder and its various fuckups

o-okay

So people Have been discussing the Eternal Trees, and their association with the Spheres of Power. While magically those are what the Trees are associated with, at the same time you need to remember that the trees are also what hold together the world, and as such are associated with the metaphysical underpinnings of reality, and so each tree is associated with both a Sphere of Magic, and an aspect of reality. Further, to maintain their balance and to ensure no singular tree becomes too influential on reality, each tree has an associated "opposite" that balances it in terms of which concept they control.

Now, I came up with this list last night on the Trees, and which aspect of reality is associated with which tree, and what their opposite is. I'm currently working also on a map of the trees, but am having some trouble deciding how to organize their placement, At frst I was thinking of placing themin one half, then placing their opposite onthe other side of the planet, but that's just left many of the trees to be within the ocean.

>Light and Dark
>Alteration (Body) and Mind
>Life and Death
>Protection (Peace) and War (Conflict)
>Time and Warp (Space)
>Creation and Destruction (Entropy)
>Enhancement (Within) and Conjuration (Without)
>Divination (Knowledge) and Illusion (Emotion)
>Nature (Growth) and Weather (Disturbance)
>Telekinesis (Action) and Fate (Consequence)

Now, I"m not 100% sold on this list yet, so if anyone has any beter ideas for the list, I'd like to hear them

Yeah, this makes sense, and I can definitely see each tree doing this as a sort of Defensive Mechanism to protect itself while healing after being heavily damaged. Though I also like idea for the Mind tree

So they just run parallel. Fantastic.

>tfw he's holding it off for 3 hours, to maximize the pain

Which is this?
Yeah, we haven't really updated it.

Not everyone's going to have both feats!

Is there like a "Monster manual" for starfinder yet?

Its basically universal feat tax unless there is some sort of bullshit class prereq.

Comes in October

Alien Archive, releases at the same time as the core book, I'm pretty sure.

You can also download a free PDF of "First Contact," which is sort of a mini-bestiary.

Found it: zalil.su/3875211
For others looking but not willing to go through the previous for the Starfinder Core book.

Weapon Specialization is 3rd level, Enhanced Resistance is 4th.

Furthermore, Enhanced Resistance is not a universal DR, you have to pick what energy type it's for. Someone can have Enhanced Resistance (Kinetic) or Enhanced Resistance (Fire) for example.

the elemental master handbook or whatever it's called. It's apparently pretty shitty, but it's still fun to have imagedumps of all the books as they come out

Yeah, the thread's been deep in SF. My condolences.

you wish

Martials get weapon specialization for free as part of standard progression so they acknowledged the feat tax issue. Enhanced resistance doesn't seem to be as good as it would be in Pathfinder; the only requirement is BAB 4 but the benefit isn't as large as you'd expect. There're more big single attacks with how iteratives have been stripped down, damage type variety will be a lot bigger and you can only pick one sort to defend against when you take the feat, and rocket tag isn't going to be as much of a thing with the number changes which makes other forms of defense better than they traditionally are.

If a character goes to 20 they'll definitely pick up Enhanced Resistance at some point, but it's way easier to justify taking weak flavour feats under the new system.

yeah thats not shady as fuck

> →
My list was merely meant to be examples of different negative effects for each tree, according to their sphere. I also think that the amnesia/nullthought zone is better.

God damn it, I would have sworn Amazon listed it as available Aug. 17.

Fuck that.

Every class gets specialization for the proficiencies they grant. So everyone gets specialization for basic melee weapons and small arms at level 3.

You can buy the book, go through the threads collecting all the leaked images yourself, or enjoy your Russian spyware.

Hey, it's what was in the thread and my computer hasn't caught fire and exploded, so it'll do until somebody gets their act together and puts up a better one.

Idiots. If you're so scared, virustotal the pdf upon downloading. It's clean.

Mock some builds and it becomes quite clear. Assuming best available gear of equal character level, with 18 starting Dex, 2 ability increases, and Weapon Focus at 1st level. The level 10 builds assume Weapon Specialisation in the used weapon. These are regular attacks, you can extrapolate with AB penalties and extra attacks for Full Attacks if you wish.

A lvl1 Operative with a Tactical Semi-Auto Pistol will attack with +5/1d6+1d4, if using Trick Attack which also applies a -2 AC to the enemy for flatfooted. 5 average damage, 10 maximum. With Second Skin; EAC 15, KAC 16.
A lvl 1 Soldier with either a Hunting Rifle or Azimuth Laser Rifle (both have the same damage but of different type) will attack with +6/1d8. 4 average damage, 8 maximum. Heavy armor applies a major Dex penalty though, with Golemforged permitting 0 dex bonus and Ceremonial Plate only permitting +2; this hinders your AB and AC, making them +13 EAC and +15 KAC or 14 EAC and 17 KAC respectively.

A lvl 10 Operative with an Elite Semi-Auto Pistol will attack with +13/3d6+5d8+5 with Trick Attack which also applies a -2 AC to the enemy for flatfooted. 28 average damage, 63 maximum. With white carbon skin, 27 EAC and 29 KAC.
A lvl 10 Soldier with a Combat Rifle will attack with +16/3d8+15, using Heavy Fire, but you can augment either your damage by an additional 2 with a Projectile weapon and Bullet Barrage, or your AB by 1 with a Laser weapon and the Laser Accuracy. 29 average Projectile damage, 41 maximum. With specialist Defiance series heavy armor, 27 EAC and 30 KAC; again a max Dex of only +2 caps AB and AC contributions. A Spider Harness Power Armor does give a +5 max Dex bonus, but slightly lower actual armor.

Generally, it seems you're better off with Operative, at the risk of relying on Stealth checks. Heavy armor Soldiers are better suited for melee, with enough Dex to cap the Dex bonus of your armor while using Strength as your attack attribute.

paizo.com/paizo/blog/v5748dyo5lk1d?Free-Starfinder-Character-Sheets-Download

They dropped the actual Starfinder sheets yesterday if someone wants to add them to the repository.

Is it finally safe to start a campaign at level 3?

Operative does those things better. And you get to be the skill monkey.

start it at lvl 2
take risks

Fuck, meant level 1

Did the first Starfinder AP leak yet?

Tell me about your character, /pgg/? Pathfinder or Starfinder both are good.

My crush never replied to me.

No.

What will be the Starfinder Tuvarkz meme? Nodachis aren't in the game after all.

What? That fiend! Who is this crush that refuses to requite your love?

That's because I didn't get your message! Send it again!

Devastation Blade.

I even linked them this thread so they could see it but no, nothing.

The Dueling Sword, probably.

aaaaaaaa i want an unrequited love

Wait, I fucked up. Heavy Weapons are a thing.

Level 1 Soldier should be +6/1d10 with Reaction cannon.
Level 10 Soldier should be +16/2d12+15 with Stellar Cannon and Heavy Fire.

>that feeling when I'm making picks

>A new paizo system just came out and you're expecting people to drop discussing it for more pathfinder, which has always been around

Does it feel that good, Zon-Kuthon?

TR-8R confirmed.

>new content comes out, both brand new and for something already existing
>wow what a fag hoping for at least the token acknowledgement of the addition to the old thing

I'm pretty sure they're releasing the opposition book you actually need to play the game months after the core book comes out entirely because 3.0 did that. Same reason they're still putting rules for making characters before anything that tells you how the game works, what the decisions you're making mean, or even what characters are appropriate for the game.

They're so far up their own assholes and unable to have an original thought they're intentionally reproducing the fuckups of past games.

I'm just pointing out that expecting everyone to drop the shiny new toys to talk about the ones they've had forever is a bit silly. Give it some time.

It really doesn't

She's a 5' plumekith aasimar ex-merc punchgirl! She's joined the party as a favor to a friend who couldn't continue on the journey. She doesn't have a formal education, so she's missing a lot of academic knowledge, but she does know a bunch of languages, so she's helpful as a translator.

The "oh you might die in one hit" problem isn't really solved by being level 3. Let's take the most bog standard Orc with a great axe. He's built with the NPC array so he has 18 Str after racial.

He does 1d12+9 damage. Now let's say he crits. That's 3d12+27 damage or average of 42.5 damage on average.

At level 3 a character who is a D8 class with 14 con has 23HP and dies at 37 total damage. Even if he payed his FCB he still on average goes from full HP to perma death in one crit. A D10 character will barely live at a -12 if he spent his FCB. The only real person who is realistically gonna be alive is a raging barbarian at somewhere around -2 HP. Then he stops raging and drops to -8.

So really being level 3 does not save you from a stray crit. Especially for d8 and d6 classes.

How's it feel knowing Zon-Kuthon is more associated with Shadows and Darkness than raw Pain?

Zon-Kuthon existing confirms Necromongers, we Riddick now.

Compared to a 20 Strength Soldier, with Weapon Specialisation and Melee Striker: +16/3d10+17

Anyone else unironically interested in using the Light Armors even as a Soldier?

The "die in one hit" problem at level 1 isn't about a stray crit kill you, it's about a regular fucking hit killing you.

You sort of have to if you want to be anywhere near good at shooting, but then you might aswell just play Operative. Or be a Vesk with Guard for +2 to your armor max dex.

>You sort of have to if you want to be anywhere near good at shooting

What? Why?

Heavy armors will cap your Dex quite substantially, cutting down on your AB dex contribution to AC until at least level 12 where they start to permit +4 max dex. Even the most agile power armor only permits +5 dex bonus.

It feels like a meme come true.

I want to know the SEagle meta or Slow meta desu familia.

Lashunta Operative that is a hacker for the robots and wishes she was one. She doesn't own a weapon, but likes to ride her enercycle on the empty surface and do sick jumps cuz of the reduced gravity.

An Elf Operator that got stuck with the party through circumstance and hates every minute of it... But can't seem to find himself abandoning them.

I'm not sure how I'd do it but I want to somehow pull off the Kung-fu doctor thing in Starfinder

Does he ever catch himself accusing them of being the traitor race in the heat of an argument?
