>What artist or style would you most love to see that doesn't currently have a board game produce art for one? Can I say Z-ton?
Nathan Cooper
stop making the thread before it gets bump limit
Luis Moore
>someone else bitches at OP before I have to God bless you user, but he'll just make it when it's at 310 next time and not on page 8 for another 3+ hrs
Anthony Rivera
Is it okay to post board / card games that are wip in this thread? I'm working on a card game that's based on the framework of Punch!
Ethan Cox
Yeah, no choice. If I'd waited again retard user would have fucked it up again.
Isaiah Lewis
Prolly more fitting in a game design thread, but we do love to see OC and new stuff, go nuts posting it til someone unleashes their autism on you user.
There's always more retards user, just keep trying to start some shit in the middle of the night for the next refresh. I haven't had to make a proper thread in 3 weeks now because of the influx of people who don't seem to know how slow Veeky Forums works
Easton Thompson
go with it
Noah Scott
Sadly agree with you on it too. Mercs and councillors could have been implemented a lot better with a little more depth/quality. Hopefully we'll see a return of mercs/representatives in a TI4 exp with better mechanics. Is there anything new /bgg/ would like to see in an expansion for TI4? I'm gonna play a 5-7 player TI3 this saturday with only 1 beginner and I'm looking really forward to it.
Hunter Price
The talk about CAH got me wondering, why do you all think that board games geared towards adults entirely focused around sex and how many times you can say fuck in one night? Is it a taboo thing that since we can't talk about that stuff in normal days the only way we can have fun is by finding out new ways to say boobs?
Ryan Wright
Because games geared towards "adults" aren't games designed to be good, but rather sell at Target/Walmart/etc to people who don't know games beyond Monopoly.
Had a guy at Gencon handing out trial packs of their new porn movie title game. The gf took one look at it said "who the fuck wants to play this shit" and tossed it in the trash as soon as he walked away from our seats. Never been prouder of her and she's definitely not a gamer
Sebastian Myers
Does anybody know a good supplementary sites for HeroQuest? I'm itching for more classes and houserules but I don't want to shell out more than I already have.
Jordan Peterson
Anything geared towards "Adults" is crap.
Let me be clear, I don't mean that anything unfit for Children is crap. R-rated movies, M-rated games, and even some "Mature" entries in Veeky Forums material can be 100% Legit. But there's a big difference between a media product that organically reaches a state where those below a certain age probably shouldn't be exposed to it, and a product that goes in saying "This is gonna be for adults I'ma make it all adult".
Because what defines "Adult" in that context is the kind of thing that gets stupid teenagers and newly-minted college students snickering, and that's exactly the demographic things like CAH are marketing to: the easily-amused, probably stoned manchildren and womanchildren who feel a swell of pride on being acknowledged as part of the secret club that is the adult set, rather than those who have gained actual taste for what experience they spend their money and hours on.
In essence, anything having to do with a bodily function that many would shy from speaking openly about or a part of human anatomy that would have to be covered on network tv will get a significant subset of people laughing and interested, and the same subset of people is probably not great with their money and will throw it at an activity that's Apples to Apples with aforementioned not-child-friendly elements of life included.
Julian Ward
Because what else are you going to put in an adult themed board game? Violence? Eclipse lets you genocide planets. Slavery? Let me introduce you to a game called Puerto Rico. Torture? It's a card in Dominion. Basically the only things that differentiate an "adult" game and a normal one are titties and cursing.
And that's why "adult" games suck. Because they're just games with gratuitous titties and cursing added in.
Joshua Walker
I still don't understand the appeal of that game.
Tyler Hill
>wanting anything other than gravity land Seriously does no one even bother to check BGG before asking these questions every thread? >boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/699/heroquest/files
Henry Gutierrez
I don't know what that is but now I really want to make that part of my next D&D campaign
They're COLONISTS. They just happen to be dark brown tokens that work on plantations.
Daniel Hill
Bring up Five Tribes then, those slaves went over wonderfully with the internet when Rahdo and Wheaton pitched fits about them. Still kinda pissed about the fix thematically; seriously how is a Fakir helpful in anything but snake charming? They could've make them just straight up toolkits and it would've made more sense
Christian Rodriguez
It's normies first euro. It's the monopoly of modern board games. Nobody who actually knows better really likes it (inb4 that guy) but it's familiar and well tread.
I'll cite my buddy who will not play anything else: >I only play three player because with four it's too hard. That sums up Catan players to me.
Incidentally I don't understand the appeal of Risk. Risk-like? Awesome. Area control? Bring it. Risk itself? Meh.
Alexander Cooper
Risk is an amazing game to people who know nothing about board games, just like catan. what other (normie) game lets you take over the world and make/break alliances with your friends?
Bentley Fisher
You're still buying people but now they're just called by a different name
Robert Smith
Because of shit like this no one will ever make a game that is just straight up about slave trading. Just imagine the shitstorm if someone released or even tried to release a game where the players take the role of arab slave traders.
Carter Ward
I'm genuinely tempted now. So much free publicity. Low effort dollars, that's what this is.
Joshua Sanchez
>euro game about the early US slave trade >expansion is Africa map
god I want this
Grayson Williams
instead >game is about arabs using islam to literally and metaphorically enslave europe >expansion: the crusades, which makes the game a 1 v all where the european player has to make use of the limited resources given to him by the church to repel the arab hordes from key areas
James Barnes
Anyone tried this? Looks a bit bloated but I feel I could cut down on the fat and help my friends have some fun.
Isaac Campbell
You know Barbarossa's been localized, right?
Grayson Peterson
Yes. But what do scantily clad female nazis fighting equally underdressed female russians have to do with slave trading?
Anthony Thompson

Best way to experience arkham horror? Pretty new to board games but this has our group of 3 totally hooked. Any good house rules and the like?
Eli Ramirez
I'd completely forgotten about leaders, which I also think are a great optional variant, just not for new players.
Jaxon Perez
Core. If you want to add expansions, use only ONE expansion at a time; Kingsport is my personal favorite.
Colton Sanders
>1115 pages Holy fuck
Landon Carter
Best way to enjoy Arkham Horror? I suggest forgettign about it until the cold season kicks in. Then you fucking burn it for heat.
William Ward
TI4 doesn't have leaders, does it?
James Miller
Besides browsing at a local store from now and then I don't know shit about board games so I turn to you for help: Can you recommend a game that works well with 2 players?
Elijah Reed
Some interesting results from the last thread survey. It looks like GMT games got some love for well written rule books. Meanwhile FFG's rule book writers apparently need schooled. (I'd agree with the 'not a fan of the two rule books' school of thought.) Roll & Race for the Galaxy got nominated for ease of teaching, while Roll was also thrown under the 'pain to teach' bus as well.
I'd have to agree that Archipelago and Hegemonic can be a pain to teach due to rules complexity in some areas, and Robinson Crusoe has a ton of fiddly rules, but I still like all 3.
Pic related sans comic sans.
Hudson Perry
Got any better co-op games to recommend?
Adrian White
and Any particular themes/genres, complexity levels, or game lengths you are looking for?
Brody Rivera
Length should be about 2-4 hours, has to scale well with 3 players, medium/high complexity preferred, the rest can be anything.
Juan Gray
>Can you recommend a game that works well with 2 players?
7 Wonders Duel Forbidden Island Forbidden Desert (more challenging than Island) D&D Board Games (like Wrath of Ashardalon) Conquest of Planet Earth Pandemic Robinson Crusoe Stronghold Xenoshyft
Easton Young
Co-op games?
Kevin Jackson
Not particularly bound concerning themes/genres (fluffy presentation would be nice, pure card game might be a little rough, coop would be great), aiming for medium complexity (but if it's well explained, high complexity is welcome), from 1 hour game length up.
Ryan Reyes
I'll have to ask for some sauce.
Blake Harris
Forbidden Stars, while not a true 4x, is very good with 2 players.
Christopher Carter
Awesome! Pretty cool!
Julian Miller
Flashpoint
Joseph Ward
Nope. I assume they'll be back in an expansion, they were quite popular.
Charles Moore
As with the shock troops, just use the TI3 leaders and solt and peppor to taste.
James Fisher
So I've been thinking on the issue of how would one make a "mature" game without making it gratuitous? How would one explore sexuality and sensuality in boardgame form without making it crass or too silly?
Wyatt Lewis
You don't. Sensuality and sexuality are too heavy and mean too many different, important things to too many people to be dealt with tastefully in a piece of light entertainment. Or make a racing game where you're all sperm trying to get to the egg, and make it extremely in-depth like Sierra Madre games. That's what I'd do tb perfectly h.
Ayden Reed
Yeah, most stuff is going to be pretty compatible. But I'm also starting to notice things I'll definitely want to modify. Like the agenda phase always has you vote on two political cards, one after the other. But you don't draw and reveal the second until the first is done. Not good, I think, can't evaluate your own or other players relative interest and allocate your votes between them intelligently if you don't know what the second half of the docket is going to be. And it rewards memorizing the deck so you have more of an ability to predict what might come up, which is also, I think, unhealthy.
Tyler Allen
>Crusades >Repelling the Arabs The crusades were almost all offensive wars.
Josiah Clark
>more anime English versions when? Would drop the extra cash for those special editions.
Adam Martinez
Don't you know revising all the offensiveness out of history is all the rage these days?
Two editions: one for Arabs expelling Frankish invaders, and one for Sicilians overthrowing and expelling the Arab invaders.
Nathaniel Green
Correcting the Record on boards other than /pol/ now, are we?
Hudson Morris
The causes of the Crusades are many and complex, and responsibility lies on both parties.
Jonathan Ward
Either post some actual points and arguments or fuck off, fence sitter.
Dominic Clark
Yeah, sorry I thought you were the same guy I originally responded to
Caleb Fisher

Kemet is amazing. I just found a copy at a local store, and it was on sale. Me and my roommates have been playing it almost every day and we're about to play with the neighbors right now
Hunter Taylor
Arabs were declining to protect and even predating on pilgrims to the Holy Land, the Pope needed a new common enemy now that paganism had been almost entirely eradicated from the easy-to-reach parts of Europe, and the Roman Emperor straight-up asked the Pope to call an invasion to take Arab pressure off them. The Albigensian Crusade had the Church as the aggressor, the Northern Crusades (mostly) had the Germans finishing the shit the pagans started, the Crusades in the Holy Land were a pile-up of everyone's fuck-ups. I will levy the charge that the Muslim world throughout history holds far less regard for the rights of the individual against the state and the freedom of information, and that they continued the practice of slavery even after Europe ended it, if that makes you feel better.
Henry Diaz
Muslim countries STILL practice slavery. Oh sure, it's illegal on PAPER, but it NEVER fucking gets enforced
Julian Roberts

He's quoting Trump after the Charlottesville Neo-Nazi shiz. Have you been living under a rock?
Jeremiah Perez
I always liked the Pauper's Crusade myself.
Peter the Pauper: "God has given me a holy vision! Everyone, follow me. We're off to free the holy lands from the Arabs!"
Later: "Unnnn... Peter, do you even know where the holy lands are?"
Peter: "I'm a pauper, how should I know? We're lost. Oh Look! There's Belgrade (Serbia). Fuck-it! Lets sack the place."
And so they! Hooray!
Christopher Carter
>favourite components nothing beats multi-purpose cards (Pixel Tactics, Pax series and T&T) or boards that can somehow achieve that perfect balance of functionality and aesthetics, though sadly boards like that are rare. I love the chunky die from Quantum
anyone who lists minis as an explicit requirement for gaming is almost guaranteed to have poor taste, which is fine as it doesn't affect me in the slightest
Shadows of Malice for a non-campaign co-op, keeping in mind that it's OOP and the secondary market price is a bit retarded Galaxy Defenders or Sword & Sorcery if you want a campaign with minis and good complexity
Titan or Duel of Ages II for something that'll take a few hours (or literally 20 minutes with Titan if you somehow end up with a Titan v Titan battle as the very first battle), though DoAII is anything but fluffy and both are OOP but prices are reasonable Letters from Whitechapel plays quite well at 2P Ghost Stories or Flash Point for co-op hit that medium complexity spot good
yes, that doesn't explain how or why though (I'm and not who you're directly responding to)
either way, I prefer Clash of Cultures over FFG Civ for a board game adaptation of vidya Civ. Ancient Civilizations of the Inner Sea from GMT is something I'm keeping an eye on and I'm hoping it can do a fantastic job of modernising AH Civ, which being from GMT I have high hopes for
Christopher Stewart
>Co-op Games - Length should be about 2-4 hours, has to scale well with 3 players, medium/high complexity preferred, the rest can be anything.
Pandemic is solid - a given game won't take more than an hour, less once you learn the rules, but it will challenge you to win it. Once you get the base game down, the expansions will add new difficulty.
Pandemic Legacy might be more your style as it's a campaign of interconnected Pandemic games.
Dead of Winter / Long Night expansion: This series has a 'possible traitor' mechanic that can easily be ignored. More than a few of the scenarios are difficult to win even without a possible traitor.
Gears of War - fun with very interesting card driven mechanics that actually enhance the co-operative experience and encourage teamwork. This game is out of print but still crops up for sale on Ebay and Board Game Geek's bazaar.
Robinson Crusoe: The recent 2nd edition is very nicely made, and the rule book is better, but it still has a fair degree of complexity and is damn difficult to survive / win at times depending on the scenario.
Other games you might like:
Gloomhaven is getting a lot of buzz Arkham Horror Ghost Stories Legends of Andor For shorter co-ops you might look at: the D&D games like 'Wrath of Ashardalon' Forbidden Desert Shadows over Brimstone Xenoshyft
Christopher Diaz
>anyone who lists minis as an explicit requirement for gaming is almost guaranteed to have poor taste, which is fine as it doesn't affect me in the slightest It's a requirement if the game is over-produced in every other area. Like I'm supposed to use a UV-embossed board, chunky Quantum-like dice, and cards that are so sturdy they're almost cardboard with meeples? Please. Also, every Heroquest-derived boardgame needs minis, unless it's improvised as in pic related.
William Martinez
7 Wonders Duel Roll for the Galaxy (some people hate the RAW 2 player rules but I find them perfect, choosing two phases as many people houserule is stupidly OP in my opinion) Fluxx version 4.0 or earlier (5.0 is watered down) Adventure Time Card Wars (rules are inscrutable but otherwise it's a decent game and you only need one pack for two players) Memoir 44 Harbor (aka Harbour) Evolution: the beginning
Also get thee to board game geek and check your local meetup. Beware of buying stuff you've played once or "looks good" before you have some experience with what you like and don't- for example I have Forbidden Island and it's very meh.
Luke Sanchez
I'm not saying that minis are bad, but people that absolutely must require minis in their games are more than likely to have poor taste
I'd play that pic if it has engaging mechanics
Landon Barnes
Race may not be bad to teach but the guy in my group managed to screw it up more than once.
Also you missed Yashima as awful. Pretty sure I said that.
Kevin Howard
>I'd play that pic if it has engaging mechanics It really doesn't. Space Hulk is awful.
Ian Jones
All war is offensive.
Ryan Cook
hah, I'll admit that I only glanced at that pic and didn't realise it was Space Hulk
Space Hulk is definitely one of my guilty pleasure games, it's great for when I have a rough week at work and just want to wind down and do some brainless dice chucking. I would prefer to own Earth Reborn, but not having a gaming partner that dedicated at this point in my life means that I'll most likely never see anything resembling the true depth of that game, and I simply don't have the space for a box that big at the moment
Connor Cox
OP's pic is Love Live. The OP is to be congratulated, as he posted the image with the ugliest Hanayo I've ever seen. Good job, OP.
The series in is Watamote.
None of those series feature any particular Veeky Forums goings, let alone board games. The MC in Watamote does cheat at a card game to try and impress her cousin, but other than that nothing.
Christopher Rogers
>post one comment about Five Tribes >come back to many off-topic posts about crusades and Arabs/Islam I suppose it's better than another argument about the use of dice instead of a perfectly even deck of cards.
Matthew Lopez
Apologies if I missed any. I do recall you mentioning that, but I missed it when I scanned through the old thread.
Adam Taylor
dice don't need faggot sleeves tho
Easton Powell
I wasn't saying I was in favor of cards, just the argument last time was "if you have a perfect balance of cards it's better than random events"
Luke Diaz
> Da Pic!
Which one are you - the one on the left, or the one on the right? ;)
As for me, I've got the 'Slave' cards and the SJW's can fuck off. I don't have a problem distinguishing board gaming from reality. I wonder if the same people protest outside of Chess Tournaments since it promotes regicide?
God Save the Queen! (The board gamers a coming!)
Justin Thompson
>OP is to be congratulated, as he posted the image with the ugliest Hanayo I've ever seen. Good job, OP.
I Kek'd.
Hunter Fisher
>not in favor of cards
I agree dice are the best.
Caleb Nelson
I would be the one who just grabbed the first reaction image out of the folder without looking, the drive home post bar was a lot longer than I remember.
Not sure I said that either, but I did get 2 more 50mm d6 the other day so I'm definitely on board with dice right now
Jonathan Barnes
>Ghost Stories or Flash Point for co-op hit that medium complexity spot good Isn't flash point more like easy and repetitive and ghost stories hard af?
Ryan Wood
You can argue any co-op is repetitive. What's nice about flash point is that the randomness of the fire spreading prevents you from solving the game and forces you to adapt each turn. Plus, the game is customizable with being able to add rules or remove rules to suit your liking
I can't comment on ghost stories except that I want it
Michael Allen
Anyone know a place for finding board game art resources? I'm looking for a gallery of the art from Ghost Stories. The card art, the village art, anything I can get.
Thomas Ward
but also no one wants to play because "I've never seen a risk game come to an end"

Just like in Archipelago right? I'm really glad that one flys under most SJW's radar.
Eldritch Horror is generally considered an improvement in most areas.
Archipelago

>favorite component Plastic cards especially if they have transparencies so you can just stack them to see all effects neatly instead of having to stick them partialy under each other. Bonus if they have lenticular images.
Ryan Ortiz
Flash Point is stupidly easy if you play with family rules, advanced rules (especially with expansion maps) are a lot more challenging and like said, fire spreading especially when you play with hot spots included in the advanced rules gives it sufficient randomness to make it less solvable than Pandemic
what's wrong with Ghost Stories being hard? I love co-op games with low odds of winning because it makes those victories a lot more sweeter and memorable
I'm in Melbourne, but I'm not adding myself yet as I'm going to be setting up a VPS shortly and self-hosting my email, no point in having an obsolete email address

>What is generally your favorite component in boardgaming and why? I thought about it for a bit and here's my order currently : - Minis (I love toys of all sorts so minis sot of bridge these hobbies together) - Dice (there's just something about a game with sexy custom dice) - Wood bits (as much as I like minis, I like me some nice chunky wooden bits especially in euros) Cards and boards are usually pretty good looking these days, I only notice if they're particularly ugly. >What is your favorite art style or artist for game designs? I like the relatively realistic FFG style. Used to love Iello's style but now it seems too many games use some variation of Iello's style with everything being cute and colorful no matter what the theme of the game is. Two games I LOVE for their art style though are Camp Grizzly and Epic Spell Wars >What artist or style would you most love to see that doesn't currently have a board game produce art for one? I dont really follow artists. I guess I'd like to see some game with an art style reminiscent of Doom's or Duke Nukem's covers...

Landon Lopez
thank you, gentlemen and scholars. I'm wading through your suggestions.
