Quality edition, lad

>Those red lights on each side
What are they excactly for ?

Are you talking about the nacelles?

Anyone get the digital copy of "These are the Voyages" Vol. 1 from Modiphius that was put out a day or so ago?

Those are the Bussard Collectors for the nacelles.

I would also be interested in this.

My guess is they are the buzzard collectors that are normally at the front of a nacella.

I have the MSD, that is precisely what they are. They collect interstellar hydrogen for fuel purposes.

May take a few days before we have that.

So is the Star Trek version of settlers of Catan any good ?

Do you Catan? If yes, you'll enjoy Star Trek Catan.

>Catan
>good

Pick one.

It's Settlers of Catan with a Star Trek skin

>tfw visited Star Trek exhibit at Seattle Museum of Pop Culture
DS9, Excelsior, and Enterprise A/D/E models and a bunch of props too.

No. Play Ascendency instead.

No pics for us? For shame, user. You bring dishonor to your house.

No flash photos allowed. I'll see if I can sneak some anyways next weekend.

This we do not forgive. Or forgeeeeet.

Fuck ascendancy, play fleet captains

>Ent-E model
Wasn't it purely CG by that point?

Nope! It's huge, almost as long as the DS9 model is wide. The Excelsior is a cute little model, smaller even than the TMP/1701-A refit Connie.

>Best girl

>multi track 'porting

They did a model but used a lot of CG for motion and distance shots, detail work is all up close on models.

I still think it's a shame we never got a good minute of glory shots of the E, the Enterprise is a character in and of itself, deserves showing off.
plus it is such a nicer design than the D it's not even funny.

Would be perfect without those fins

It's funny how the Sovereign class was slimmer, faster, tougher, and more bare bone, but still did 90% of what you'd need a Galaxy for as well or better. I hope the three nacelle dreadnought Galaxy variant eventually got use as mobile starbases after DS9. Hell, with three nacelles it could probably TOW a starbase at warp.

Don't be a rent boy. Ascendency for life.

Well it missed out on the long range self sufficient vessel stuff but it's also a much newer ship than the Galaxy, taking advantage of a lot of stuff that was prototyped or discovered through the time the Galaxy class was doing its thing. The newer hull-form really helped with speed too.

I wouldn't mind seeing the Galaxy get a refit saucer to go with the 3rd nacelle. Something to make it pointy rather than fat.

The Galaxy class was the Fed saying look at us. Even our 5-star hotel cruise liners can kick your """"""battlecruisers""""". Don't force us to make real warships.

Have you heard of a phone? It doesn't have to flash you know. Just keep that in mind if you get another shot at it.

Then the Borg and Dominion took the bet, to their eternal regret.

I feel like this needs to be a line in a rap about the events of the mid 2370s.

Ha! Another winner from /tv/'s thread, if a little meta.

Spicy as fuck. Also, a good episode.

Ion Storms: Convenient plot device or actual problems resulting from solar flares?

whynotboth.png

>storms
>in space
>at narratively convenient moments
What do you think?

I'm just trying to come up with some sort of reasoning behind it other than saying "Lululu ion storm out of nowhere! Roll Control+Conn!"

Nope. Narrative convenience only.

>meta
>/tv/ says DS9 is shit and VOY is best
What did he mean by this?

>Are they pre or post Federation colonies? Do they have any interest in working with the Federation?
As far as they're concerned they're part of the Federation, even though they're too far away to communicate with it. Though I suppose the Midas array and other technologies developed to communicate with Voyager could be used after their discovery.
Hadn't thought of that for some reason.

>Is there any easy way for Starfleet to reach these colonies?
Probably only the new ships using slipstream drive that discovered them.

Would a half dozen established colonies be worth setting up regular flights with newer ships? From what I've gathered Starfleet doesn't seem to build or equip very many ships with the new drives.

Either the Federation starts sending QSD freighters or the Ferengi do. Clock's ticking.

The steamrunner would look better if the deflector was just sitting directly on top of (or below) the back portion of the saucer instead of sitting way the fuck back between the nacelles.

>Ferengi with QSD freighters

The D'Kora has a swoopy enough warp geometry. They'd just have to buy or steal an engine.

>TOS through DS9 family-friendly
>all sorts of toys and such
>even a TOS cartoon
>VOY starts going after an "adult" audience
>toys die off
>ENT basically only tries to appeal to nostalgiafags (aka adults)
>very little merchandising
>movies after FC also go that way
>nuTrek aimed purely at older millenial audience
>can't even gather family around TV for STD because lolCBS
>not that you'd want to because STD wants the modern """"mature"""" audience
Trek is dead without kiddos to grow the audience. Disney knows this, which is why SW will last forever, getting soft-reboots every 10-15 years. But Trek is nearing the end of nostalgia-mining, without making new fans. It's probably too late though.

speedy blockade runner, or long range torpedo artillery?

Get rid of those stupid fins and yes, absolutely yes. Nova is best ship second only to the Pioneer.

Always the latter. I want it to have what are essentially warp capable JDAMs. Maybe with a speedy AWACs style support ship, so a trio of ships could pound a Jem'Hadar installation flat without losing a ship. Bonus points if the scout ship is cloaked.

If we go by Star trek Armada III, long range torp arty.

God DAMN this was a good teleplay.

Wanna storytime it?

Nah m8 I have the hardcopy.
About to go to bed.
Maybe tomorrow.

Pretty much too late. Discovery will probably put the last nail in the coffin by alienating the core viewer base and being too niche to attract new viewers.

Even if a new series aimed at a younger audience is planned, it will be years before it sees the light of day.

Don't worry user, 20 years down the line we will get a BSG style reboot. Won't that be fun.

There were nuTrek action figures... they just didn't sell, because fuck $8 for an action figure with shitty articulation

And by then we'll all be broken men, willing to take it.

Canonically? It's a fast attack frigate and blockade runner. It was designed for speed and endurance.

Personally, I like the idea of it also carrying a few specialized highly powerful torpedoes, you know, for science.

>DS9 is more family friendly than VOY
What are you talking about?

Are you implying that DS9 had a steamy lizard sex scene?

Just because there were slightly darker themes and a bit of violence doesn't mean it's not family-friendly. But it was still aimed at the general syndication market, with all the merchandising and such. VOY was a UPN vehicle (pretty much *the* UPN vehicle), and wasn't aimed as much at general audiences, especially after the first couple of seasons.

Are you implying Voyager did? That shit wasn't on screen. Much in the same way that Worf and Jadzia having violent sex or Kira being "tortured" by the Circle wasn't on screen.

What happens if a Vulcan baby is raised by non-Vulcan parents and without access emotion controlling practices. Would they end up with massive mood swings and/or bipolar tendencies?

They catch fire and eventually explode. No-one is sure as to why.

they'd end up as Romulans. Vulcan mood swings are a result of keeping it bottled up for so long.

I thought Romulans had their own emotion supression practices reinforced by ingraining conformity to the state? Are they that genetically similar?

>DS9 is family friendly
>VOY is not
What did he mean by this?

For real though, it's been fucking obvious for ages. All of the TNG-era ones were accessible enough I mean, I was introduced via VOY, but the way the franchise's been handled just makes me sad.

>ENT milks lorefags and those genuinely interested in the setting
>Yet somehow wants to divorce itself from the franchise name that it's piggybacking on and just calls itself Enterprise
>JJTrek milks nostalgiafags and fans of modern, shooty, action scifi and does so very well, admittedly.
>STD plans to milk "well, at least it's not JJTrek"audience

Honestly? They're still trying to ride the fans brought in by its initial success and the newer, trash-but-accessible-enough entry point. So, the Green Day of sci-fi then?

So, STD is going to the mirror universe.

Here I thought that that only works with established characters we're already invested in.

Got any more info on that?

Can we just so consider The Orville canon and ignore the new Star Trek series?

trekmovie.com/2017/09/16/jonathan-frakes-reveals-big-star-trek-discovery-spoiler/

Jonathan Frakes directed an episode and let slip that one of them is in the Mirror Universe.

>"launch a couple of twenty gigaton probes"

Exactly. This is the Steamrunner in a nutshell and why she's best ship.

>and why she's best ship.

I still don't get it.

It's cool, you don't have to get it for it to be true.

So how are they gonna squeeze that in, when the first known crossover was in TOS?

ENT had a few that I vaguely remember being kind of fun.

Like how first contact with the Ferengi and Borg happend in TNG, not ENT?

ENT didn't crossover though, they just straight up did a mirror universe episode, not touching the regular stuff other than using the ship the Tholians webbed in TOS.

I dunno then
Same BS that gives Spock another secret sibling, I guess.

How powerful was Asgard tech compared to Nemesis-era Federation?

>In A Mirror, Darkly is the best mirror episode, bar none.
Discuss.

Asgard transporters were way above and beyond Fed transporters.
>That one episode where they couldn't find the bomb in the skyscraper so they just transported the whole building into space

Also Stargate hyperdrives were much faster than Warp.

They were using their hyperdrives for month(?) long voyages to other galaxies in our local group.
No, wait those were the human hyperdrives. I think it only took them a couple days to reach the asgard homeworld.

>That one episode where they couldn't find the bomb in the skyscraper so they just transported the whole building into space
Wasn't it because the whole building was the bomb; there was naquadah bult into the walls and shit?

might be, it has been awhile.

Consider the 300 year life span, for most of which they are capable of having children for most of that time.

It's been possibly as little as a dozen generations since the Romulans left Vulcan.

If the Romulans are genetically distinct from Vulcans it's because they were either predominantly from a very distant genetic group to start with or they've been doing work on themselves.

What are some good positions aboard a starship that could be filled by supporting characters? The main ones are all filled, so I'm trying to come up with interesting positions that might come up during a pathfinder mission.

Or, in the tradition of conquerers everywhere, they've been mixing with Remans.

Bartender/chef, quartermaster/armory officer, transporter officer, shuttle/runabout pilot, competent away team security, any relevant mission specialist that doesn't die in the first scene to establish the severity of the threat.

Having seen the Remans, I wouldn't hit it. Also, we are unclear on if there are Reman women.

Is this planetary exploration, or general stellar cartography? If the former, you've got a wealth of scientific options, like xenobotany, -biology, - geology, and so on. If the latter, you've got physicists out the earholes, as well as pilots and engineering crew, plus what said.

It would explain the forehead ridges the Romulans picked up.

Mostly the latter. Thanks for all your suggestions thus far!

Depending on how things work, just about any system, activity, or location on the ship could have a manager, assistant, or maintenance/repair guy. Holodeck scheduling manager, away team gear fetcher, Replicator tech support, that sort of thing.

>implying you wouldn't

>he doesn't want to fuck a reman
shit taste, friendo

I realize trek is all about diversity and acceptance, but the Remans are just maximum creepy.

I'm the dude who mentioned not wanting to fuck a Reman originally and I totally agree with flammenwerfer user here. I'd flammenwerfer a Reman for sure though.

200.
All beta canon has them augmenting themselves to get rid of the violent emotions.
