Fighting Machines

You mean a trotmobile?

Zord

What are the mechs in your setting used for? What type of terrain do they operate in? How big are they? Are they fast or clunky? How are they controlled?

Big men

Warframe.

Depending how Big and chunky they are, Ironclads.

I can't believe that started it's life as a Hyakuren.

It's VOTOM.

Which brings up Armored Trooper as another name.

Those inverted legs make a world of difference.

Just make up an acronym, doesnt even have to be complicated
HCMs - Human Combat Machine
done.

Otherwise, do like Pacific Rim and take a word you think is appropriate for the mechs and run it through different languages until you find something cool sounding.

An appropriate name depends on the size and purpose of the mecha. Are they just not-gundams? Or are they glorified power armor? Or are we talking space-defenders, or some kind of class of super robot?

Ring of Red, it's a PS2 game.
Go play it, it's awesome.

I'm a fan of the various Armored Core ones like LYNX, RAVEN, or NEXT. That's probably just because I like Armored Core though

Mars Engine

big fucking robot

Armored Actively Assistive Exoskeleton
Mechanized Exoframe
Servo Suit

It depends on how big they are.

DIEbuster.

Mechanized Exploration and Combat Hardsuit Assemblies

That way you can get away with it. Still sounds like it was marketable to civilians at some point too then.

Robot, from the Russian, which is significantly less specific in meaning than its English counterpart.

That's... not awful.

Huh.

>Big guy

you mean steambot?
game couldn't decide on what to call the fucking things

For the love of mike...

How would you make "Ace" a mecha-related acronym?

Armored Combat Exoskelton

Assault Core Engine

Advanced Concept Eschelon

Attack Colombian Elicopter

Accelerated Cyborg Emergency

Mobile Trench

Automated Combat Exosuit.

After all, at this point, a robot really can do your job better than you fleshbag.

Yeah, but they can't get past CAPTCHA

Jaegers

Giving out a (You) because it's deserved.

Change hardsuit to harness (what plate armor used to be called apparently) and assemblies to assembly or array.

Goliaths
Heavy Piloted Ordinance
Powered Combat Exosuit
Mobile Assault Tank
Mechanized Armor for Urban Combat

Geargia

Heavy Gear

Guardian. I use that name for mecha that babysit large and slow ships.

Bipedal Assault Unit

Mortar Headd
Machine Messiah

Avatars
Eidolons
Atma
Persona
Vessels

Use mythology. Call a not!Valkyrie a Simurgh or something. A honest to god not!Jaeger might be a Jotunn.

Hell, call them Nagai.

Excellent taste

Punchbot

GIGAS
Gigantic Individual Gear Armored System

Labors

Stormlord

>Wanzer

Warden

Or go old mongol for flavor , like Baghatur, which means honored hero, or go slavic and combine words, like Ognebog, which means "Fire God"

Mechanized Armored Walker (MAW)
New Armored Knight Engine Device (NAKED)

Bipedal Armored Tank or (BAT)

Been cooking up a fantasy mecha setting, similar to Vanguard Bandits. Relatively low tech, swords and possibly bows but no flying/space.

Right now, the acronym is FG: Fabled Garb, Faceless Golem, AND Fallen Gods.

Are these good? Any from the above that might be better?

Mobile Armored System for Tactical Endurance and Recon

Easy, makes sense, is fun to say, come at me.

>Gunhound
I like you.

>Garbs
Typical fantasy mechs
>Golems
Fantasy automatons/robots
>Gods
Pretty much super mechs IE: Escaflowne etc.

Is that how they are?

FG, all of that and sometimes pronounced as Effigy. Have that it's canon that all of these names are used.

More like, they're all the same, people just have different names for them across cultures. Some revere them as gods, others as the tools of gods.

Effigy could work, thanks.

Fully-Armored Gigantic Ground Ordinance Titans
Or as I like to call them
__mechas_

on par with "light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation"

Anons with taste

To answer OP, I like (war/battle/heavy)frame, and (war/battle/heavy)gear for small to medium sized units. Gives a clear idea of what they are for, and allows for them to have had or still have a civilian application be changing the prefix to exo/cargo.

Mechanized Engagement Carapace for Heavy Assault. Or M.E.C.H.A for short.

I go with MMARV, for Modular Multirole Armored/Autonomous Robotic Vehicle

Tactical Armored Gear

Titan
Goliath class battle machine / GCBM / Goliath
Max
Yotun
Gearplate
Great golem
Laufpanzer
Shagorobot

Neurally Linked Combat Armor

Punch Car

Walker Machine. Seriously though, has a good point, it's easier to name something if we know what exactly it's doing.

Another Centuries Episode

Better with designations than with blanket terms
Like, JERICHO-class supportive fire battlesuit
ATTILA-class anti-infantry suit
ARTEMIS-class reconnaisance suit

Humanoid Tank

Target Practice.
