Is there a reason why people go on about strategy when most games are going to be won purely by the result of the die and/or the size of your numbers vs. the enemy?

Also, if players aren't supposed to roll attacks until the enemy is dead, why is it that so few games actually balance themselves around PvP, where the bulk of your strategy is actually going to come into play?

Because strategy is only going to take you so far when the enemy rolls a crit, or you're fighting something like a troll as a group of Level 1 characters.

This seems like an idiotic troll thread.
I'm waiting for a specific response to confirm this.

>He's never played Snakes and Ladders
You dont know shit about strategy son. If you think its all dice rolls you are going to get eaten alive in the competitive scene.

>Is there a reason why people go on about strategy when most games are going to be won purely by the result of the die and/or the size of your numbers vs. the enemy?

They want what they can't get.

>Doing well
>Nothing but ladders
>Then I roll shit and get setback to square one
Every competitive S&L match ever.

>I know it's a troll thread.
>but I'm going to fall for bait anyways.
You ever stop to think "man, this board would be a lot better if I stopped existing?"

>hurr durr look at me pretending to be retarded
I remember when people actually put effort into trolling instead of mindlessly flailing about looking for whatever replies they could get. What happened?

>What happened?
The /d/eviants, creatives, and QM's were exiled and the normies and trolls moved in to take their place. Now practically any dumb thread is going to get at least 50 posts thanks to idiots like or commenting on bait threads "ironically" as if it makes them smarter than the people who take it seriously.

>muh smut
>muh quests
Yeah ok, but that has literally nothing to do with the site-wide trend you fucking spazz. More importantly, stop bumping the thread if you're going to complain about people giving replies to bait threads.

>Yeah ok, but that has literally nothing to do with the site-wide trend you fucking spazz.
Except it does. Every major board went to shit once the mods tried segregating the posters into ghettos in order to "keep the discussions pure." You can see how this affected /a/, /co/, and /v/ and you can see how it affected Veeky Forums to this very day.

You can't have a good discussion and then try to dictate what can and cannot be discussed, that's not how that works.

I'm not trying to dictate anything, but if you're going to go off on some tangent you claim to be related because you're still butthurt after over a year, don't expect people to take you seriously. Removing quests and smut had only one negative impact on the board, and that was giving us the retards who acted like it was the end of the board and still haven't let it go. Veeky Forums had shitty bait posts before quests got removed and it had the same amount of shitty bait posts after, plus your bitching. And what fantasy world do you live in where the mods have done literally anything to keep /v/ "pure?" Unless you'd like to argue that Veeky Forums was a mistake or that GG was somehow entirely the mods' fault, you're just being dramatic.

>Veeky Forums had shitty bait posts before quests got removed and it had the same amount of shitty bait posts after, plus your bitching.
At least we had more shit to be angry about so it kept the low quality shit off the catalog. Nowadays though, there's barely anything to do BUT to give (you)'s to bait threads because that's the only place where people want to talk outside of their designated generals.

>because that's the only place where people want to talk outside of their designated generals
Which is exactly what fucking happened with quests and smut threads, you dunce. Posters would come here for their handful of preferred topics and not use any other aspect of the board apart from shitposting. Weebs and /a/utists would only come for their Panty Schoolgirl IV Quest threads, and /d/eviants would use this as their own personal dumping ground for soft core porn. They didn’t contribute anything else to the discussions or content creation of Veeky Forums.

The reason boards are segregated is to focus on particular elements and hobbies. If you want your porn so bad, go to the designated thread; nothing’s fucking stopping you from visiting other parts of the site. No matter how much you meme otherwise, Veeky Forums isn’t your one-stop shop for every off topic subject you want just because you saw a few “you don’t need any other boards! xD” jokes.

fell for obvious b8

>Veeky Forums isn’t your one-stop shop for every off topic subject you want just because you saw a few “you don’t need any other boards! xD” jokes.
It was much better back when it was honestly. A lot more variation and people weren't afraid of being redirected to /qa/ or /trash/ because they didn't tickle the mod's willy hard enough.

I'd say /v/ has the opposite problem. Theres so much that isn't about gaming and is instead reddit nonsense about "soyboys" and "cucks"

>Is there a reason why people go on about strategy when most games are going to be won purely by the result of the die and/or the size of your numbers vs. the enemy?
Because if people admitted that the only reason they succeeded was because of mother may I and lucky rolls, they'd lose one of the few things about their life that they can smugly hold over the plebs who didn't sit with them in high school.

"""""""""Strategy"""""""""" is a meme to make nerds seem hardcore when rolling plastic dice against imaginary dragons.

/v/ is trash because the moment you try to talk about video games without either shitting on the game HARD or donating ample amounts of softcore porn to the discussion, you get a legion of morons telling you to take it to Veeky Forums, /vp/, /vr/ or one of the other offshoots that shouldn't have been made, assuming they don't just derail the thread by spamming wojaks and pepes until the /pol/acks come in to derail the thread further.

Veeky Forums is arguably worse in this regard, because at least with /v/, you have options outside of /v/ to discuss vidya but on here? Outside of a general, you'd be lucky not to see your thread sink to page 10 before you even get to 50 posts.

You're vastly overestimating the amount of luck in a decent game.
>Because strategy is only going to take you so far when the enemy rolls a crit, or you're fighting something like a troll as a group of Level 1 characters.
You shouldn't ever get into a fair fight if you can help it in any RPG where "player skill" is a factor in success.

>You're vastly overestimating the amount of luck in a decent game.
You're vastly underestimating how far you can carry yourself when you both higher numbers on your side.
>You shouldn't ever get into a fair fight if you can help it in any RPG where "player skill" is a factor in success.
Yet all I hear is how player skill is the determining factor for how good a game is when most of their success boils down to the DM letting them win.

What does /r9k/ have to do with this? There's nobody ITT complaining about roasties.

That would be the MtG threads.

The DM's job is to create a consistent game world such that you win when the "physics" of the world dictate that you should and lose when they dictate that you shouldn't, and then provide situations where the only way you have a chance to succeed is to be creative and clever.

That is, the most important trait of a good DM is consistency.

Which boils down to DM fiat and "mother may I?" not actual skill. Thanks for the insight.

Nowadays, DM's are more interested in stroking themselves off than providing a credible threat for the party to overcome.

>bored shitposting, the thread
Your shit attempt ''''''pretending'''''' to be retarded is pathetic. I've seen Russians doing it better on Veeky Forums. Neck yourself.

Figures, the moment you lose the argument, you immediately tell people to kill themselves.
>/v/ermin
Ah I gotcha, you're just doing what you've been taught. How about you go back where you came from instead of making Veeky Forums trash m'kay?
