it's too black, you're gonna get that sooty charcoal flavor. try putting some oil in the pan instead and frying lightly. What cheese did you use? you can use almost any type of cheese in my opinion, but i prefer the processed cheese "singles" or whatever they're called for grilled cheese.

Cheddar is too oily and thick for melting, if you finally do manage to get it melty, you better eat it fast because it just as quickly solidifies into a greazy solid hunk

Looks burnt, dry, and the cheese isn't melted. The heat was too high.

Next time spread butter or mayo on the outside of the bread and cook it lower and slower. Use shredded cheese if you can.

you have to do it on a low heat with a lot of oil. It needs time for the cheese to melt, without burning the bread.

What cheese did you use?

Personally I like a cheddar/red Leicester or cheddar/mozzarella blend.
Cheddar brings the flavour while the others bring the texture

I'd recommend mixing it with something like mozzarella that melts real good.
