inb4 the meme trilogy of Peterson, zizek and land
It takes some time for greatness to be recognized for what it is
PETERSON FOR HIS VIEWS ON TRANNIES
NICK LAND FOR WANTING TO ERADICATE ALL NONWHITES
SPENCER FOR REDPILL
noam chomsky is a titan of thought
it would be good if we could get actual decent philosophers. chomsky may have made contributions to linguistics 30+ years ago...but the rest are memes
what about searle and all the philosophy of mind dudes?
what is going on in france? someone posted some "nonphilosophy" or unphilosophy stuff a few months ago that looked interesting
Greg Johnson
Me, obviously
Zizek, sniff
... maybe Obama? He's pretty Hegelian when you think about it. And he took all that shit that was thrown at him with class & dignity. I like that dude

Plantinga
Is DeBoton, that dude who founded school of life considered one?
fuck no, jesus
∀(x)(Cx ⊃ Mx)
Sorry, forgot about this thread. Could you explain why Plantinga is there? I've read some of his writings and am familiar with him but I just blanked upon seeing his face. Can't stand him though to be honest.
Really no reason for him to be there.
Judith Butler, Laruelle, Habermas (sadly), Badiou, Toni Negri
M is for meme?
Charles Bambach
>If Me, Zizek and Obama were in a room, I think we could make the world better.
If the room was filled with gas, maybe.
>On the Postcolony

John McDowell, Alasdair Macintyre, Timothy Williamson, Saul Kripke, Robert Brandom, David Chalmers, Peter Singer, Peter van Inwagen, Bas van Fraassen etc.
Sinfully underrated post.
tricky nick
oui
Can anyone name some respectful intellectuals, writers, artists, and academics that are still alive? I'm sure there are many brilliant people out there, and it obviously takes time for their works to become known. But it feels like there's a massive void in the intelligentsia. It's depressing, especially when you imagine what someone from 1870-1920 would have experienced.
Donna Haraway
I am the greatest thinker of all time.
i bet shes really smart
Ok. He was one of the philosophers that always annoyed me the most in that course.
Jacques Rancière is probably up there
snorted
so basically there are none? desu, land is at least more interesting than nearly anyone else mentioned in this thread
Did you see my comment?
...
me
I think this thread says it all, there aren't really any.
Donald Trump
Philosophy has become a commodity to sell in academic institutions.....it has no other real value
thats just a shitty narrow definition of a large concept using a subjective tautology
John Gray gives me an end times erection.
...
i saw this guy talk at cornell when he came for a lecture. the room was way too stuffy and i fell asleep partway through, as did many other attendees sitting near me. i woke up to him saying, 'therefore, democracy and capitalism are incompatible' which elicited a snort from several audience members.
...
literally whom
I wrote The Foundation for Exploration
what is your "project"?
This.
bump
Badiou.
Can't believe only one other person has said this.
Why shouldn't a black philosopher concern himself with his own culture?
You also conveniently left out a very interesting title, "On Private Indirect Government."
Racism stunts the intellect like any bias.
sam hyde, truly the intellectual master of postmodernist thinking
For what ideas, or which work? I'm unfamiliar with most modern philosophers, so I wish you all would specify why they merit your admiration.
For which work? He seems more like a scholar than a philosopher - what with his works centered on Heidegger.
statistics suggest that the odds of a black man having an IQ much above 150, which is a necessary precondition to being a great philosopher, are astronomically low.
make way ye troglodytic acolytes of academia, the Emissary of Divine Truth coming through
Way to prove me right.
>Racism stunts the intellect like any bias
when will you just accept the truth
I just told you the truth. In fact, you quoted me on it.
>aligning your views and beliefs with scientific data and statistics is a bias
ur delusional my man
>Racism stunts the intellect like any bias.
This is the epitome of the newspeak perspective. It's the inability to honestly address race in post-60s egalitarian era that has biased the public consciousness to the point where whites in the multicultural hell hole previously known as the west are experiencing major cognitive dissonance because of the delusional worldview they've adopted so they won't be seen as racist.
The person I quoted is an idiot.
>Why shouldn't a black philosopher concern himself with his own culture?
I see no reason why not, but white people are constantly being chided for not "opening their minds" to "other cultures and perspectives." Some of us might make the mistake of thinking that what's demanded of whites applies equally to other ethnic groups, when in reality this standard of broadmindedness applies only to us.
nah man you are the idiot here people who won't read Spinoza or Kafka or whatever because they are ((((([[((((([[((((({{{{(((jews))))}}}}}))))))]]])))))))])))))) and believe in some spook race superioty are the real cancer
thus
>Racism stunts the intellect like any bias
>spook
ah fuck you got me
So it's "science" which prompts you to have a photo like that on hand? Is it also science which causes all of you to dive on anti-racism comments like flies to a glue trap? No, it is pure emotion.
You use data to reinforce your preexisting biases. Anyone can do this, and most people do. It isn't a sign of intellect, rather its converse.
You have seen what you want to see. Case in point, you ignored every aspect of my comment besides the last line. You honed in only on what you have a bias towards.
You may all keep yourselves in chains if you wish, but don't say you weren't told.
This is the epitome of a pseudo-intellectual try-hard - or a child with an unfortunate upbringing.
He's an African writing in an Anglo language, is he not? He has taught in at least one foreign country (America) has he not? Your point is both irrelevant and ignorant. The minorities of the world have been appropriating Anglo culture since the sun shone on the British Empire. Did you forget Modernization was once, more accurately, called Westernization?
You prove my point however. Both of these things are obvious, and you should have been aware of them. You weren't because you are blinded by a bias. Though you seem less so than others who've commented (you at least had something to say on a line besides the last).
this is why there are no great living philosophers. people concerned over whether races are smart or not like it matters non-politically. politics is fucking gay—full stop.
