Is it possible for someone to be more intelligent than Alain de Botton? The breadth and depth of his thought absolutely astonishes me.

>De Botton's Swiss-born mother was Ashkenazi, and his father was from a Sephardic Jewish family

ever considered taking the redpill?

the bourgeois king

He's an average philosophy/lit academic but a very good speaker, his insight is literally regurgitations of consensus academic opinion of many professors.

Take away the British accent and he makes George Costanza look like a catch

Going by your definition Bernard madoff perhaps?

...

His vast array of knowledge on literally every important philosopher and historical event is amazing, not to mention the myriad of short videos he's produced that could solve all of society's ailments. I don't even need to read anything by Plato after watching a seven minute video by de Botton, that's how amazing he is.
>Take away the British accent and he makes George Costanza look like a catch
His powerful brain needs so much energy his body doesn't waste resources on hair.

>studied at: the school of life

ok. ok. wow. just... ok. yeah, uhhh ... no.

Let's take a moment to appreciate the pithy genius of the name of this project, "The School of Life"
First, the word school; it is derived from the Greek σχολείο, which lets the reader know that this project will draw heavily from those fathers of philosophy, the Greeks. Not only that, but the very meaning of this Greek word σχολείο is actually "leisure time", which in ancient Athens was passed in debates that would now be classified as "scholarly". With a single word, AdB has given us a suggestion on the proper usage of our free hours.
Now, it is equally important that the name is "The School of Life" not "The School of Living"; the usage of the pure noun "Life" tells the reader that this is dealing with a question fundamental to the condition of existence, as opposed to the mere transience of a gerund verb. We are not simply learning how to live, oh no no, that project would be far too sophist for the intellectual powerhouse that is the mind of Alain de Botton; we are learning what it means to be alive.

you write like a librel

I transcend your limiting labels, my only goal is to uphold de Bottonist thought

we truly live in an age of great genius

alright you got me. now defend "art as therapy" I bet you can't do it.

>AdB
top lel

I assume you refer to one of AdB's side-projects, "Porn as Therapy".
Now, although I could easily explain the genius of the phrase on a purely linguistic level, I do believe that my previous posts have sufficiently displayed Alain de Botton's penchant for packing astounding amounts of meaning into these laconic phrases. "Porn as Therapy", on the other hand, matches the genius of its title with an ambition rarely found in this world. Pornography, of course, is a sexual art form, and beyond that almost always has a distinct teleology; the achievement of orgasm. Alain, as demonstrated in his video "What Nice Guys don't say to Nice Girls", clearly understands the hypnotic power of pornography. He makes an unprecedented leap, however, when he proposes that perhaps sexuality is deeply intertwined with psychology, and in particular psychological development. His idea here, unprecedented in modern medicine and psychiatry, is to use sexuality as a method through which the practitioner can probe the deep depths of the patient's mind. The harmony found in the idyllic world of pornography may help reorganize our minds.

He's a snake-oil salesman whose wares are wrapped in pseudo-intellectual drivel.

I know this entire thread is bait anyways, but whatever.

Brian Eno: superior.

You kidding? That guy is intolerable.

Yeah cool man explain the meaning of Love to me in academic terms what fun
