But it's not really literature because comic strips are primarily a visual medium.

C&H is great for what it is, and is probably the comic strip that gets closest to being art. That said, its medium (comic strips) is inherently more limiting than straight prose or poetry. Waterson himself would tell you this - that's why he stopped making the strip back in the 90s.

I still like it quite a lot though.
