Dehydrated Foods General

Just bought one of these and loaded it with bananas to dehydrate overnight. Who else has one? What do you dehydrate?

meat

What cut of meat is that?

Could I get some tips on different meat and prep methods?
All i have done to this point is fruits till my old old one broke, looking to buy a new one.

sirloin tip

it's quite simple
take a lean cut, slice it thin and uniform (i use pic related but a knife works it's just a pain)
then i make a marinade, i usually change it up but it needs to be super salty, i use soy sauce and miso a lot, with something sweet, honey, maple syrup, molasses etc.
i usually use alcohol like bourbon or sake for flavor
and then whatever kind of other flavors you like, chili flakes, ginger, garlic all work nicely
let it soak overnight and then dehydrate for about 6 hours

...

cut too thick imo

Dehydrating some rose hips from my yard tomorrow. Going to make tisane with it.

What is wrong with his hand?

Boil up some of these, soak them in soy sauce, and then dry them. Its the best snack you'll ever have.

Trying this tonight

fetal alcohol syndrome. also reason for his face.

Whats the process in dehydrating require? Is it just leaving them out to evaporate moisture? or is sugar involved?

Dehydrators operate by using of a heating element, fan, air vents, and food trays. The heating element, fan and vents work together to circulate air and remove moisture. Heating the food allows for moisture to be released from the food and into the dehydrator. The fan then pushes excess moisture to the vents, where it is released outside of the dehydrator.

>i use soy sauce

he has a very pronounced philtrum though ...

What dehydrator would you recommend?

I was looking at ones on amazon and walmart.com, a few had complaints of the plastic racks melting.

Jerky and banana chips are all I use my shit $40 one for

Dehydrating water to store in my nuke bunker.

I just got some thin sliced beef to make into A1 jerky tonight. Fuckin love beef jerky. Its slightly cheaper than buying store bought without a shitload of unknown preservatives, and I can control the salt.

Also, apple chips are delicious. Bought too many herbs? dry them and save for next meal.

>tisane

fermented soy isn't a xenoestrogen, stupid memelord

Neither is unfermented soy, faggot.

I'm using a biochef one. Basically anything that looks like a toaster oven is fine. Excalibur seems to be the gold standard for home usage. Uhh as long as you don't get those shitty circular ones you'll be right.

What recipe are you following? Because dehydrated bananas are terrible. The ones you get in the stores are normally fried to dry them. At the very least you need to dip them in lemon juice to help maintain their color. Otherwise, they turn black.

>Who else has one?

I have one.

>What do you dehydrate?

Everything.

>what is genistein
Also:
>Thus, the level of genistein in the fermented soybean products was higher than in soy beans and soybean products such as soy milk and tofu

Wild mushrooms
Beef jerky
Yogurt
Fruit leather

Cut them into dilluted lemon juice 10 at a time then moved them to a tray. Then set them to 135* for about 9 hours. They turned out all right - definitely not crunchy like the fried ones from the store but the flavor is excellent. I double-steamed some peanut butter and dipped some of them in it and also dipped some in chocolate and sprinkled nuts on top. Not my favorite, honestly - but I'm pretty happy with it for the first round.

Amazing. I'm particularly interested in the tea.

You know what? If this Winter hasn't killed my fig tree I'mma buy one of those dehydrators. I always end up having more figs than I can eat so I just let them fall on the ground.

Also dried kiwi is so fucking good but expensive.

That's mint, not tea.

>dried kiwi
gotta try that
i've heard watermelon is good too

Those are green tea leaves.

No, those are peppermint leaves, I grow them and dry them myself. I took the photo. I had some with green tea this morning.

looks amazing, wish i could hang out and make jerky with ya

...

Jesus Christ that looks good.
