THE NOBEL PRIZE 2017 WINNER

YOKO OGAWA

your name, sweetie?

a-ambrosius

...

>all the reporters camped outside of murakami's house house have to rush to hers

So let's anticipate the rush

*teleports behind you*
*snatches nobel*
heh, nothing personal gal, but i'll be taking this

>a novel in chinese
>translated
>wait, you misunderstood the tone!
>two different novels
>mfw

she looks like a Jodie Picoult, or another one of those mom-core writers.

>writor looks like X
>he must be X

she any good :?"

It's actually gonna go to me.

Konichiwa, Yoko-chan

How hard are her books in the moonspeak department? I might actually read one if she wins

Now you get it.

>tfw no nobel prize winner mommy gf

>He is a brilliant math Professor with a peculiar problem--ever since a traumatic head injury, he has lived with only eighty minutes of short-term memory.
>
>She is an astute young Housekeeper, with a ten-year-old son, who is hired to care for him.
>
>And every morning, as the Professor and the Housekeeper are introduced to each other anew, a strange and beautiful relationship blossoms between them.
has anyone actually read this? It sounds pleb as fuck

Maybe the writing is amazingly insightful and clever? Plot just sounds like high-concept trash

Typical Veeky Forums
>reading descriptions
>drawing conclusions
>not actually reading books
fuck you

>"sounds like high-concept trash"
>posts david lynch
wew

sounds like something murakami would write
trash

Wasn't this a Jim Carrey movie?

literally who

>not knowing what "high-concept" means
wew

>novel

It's actually an Adam Sandler movie, but the roles are inverted so it's a masterpiece

good thread

My local library had her surprisingly so I got a chance to read the professor book. I enjoyed it somewhat

Veeky Forums used to talk about her more often. She was mentioned a few times in past years if you paid attention.

October 5th is the reveal.

hello world press

the winner of this year's nobel prize in literature is...

...not mr. bob dylan. actually we're revoking his prize

now help yourself to some coffee and cake

t. nobel committee

Wait.

...

Adam Sandler-tier romantic comedy.

I sorta feel like nobody here actually reads books anymore.

What is, "Reads books?"

I read the spines of all my books every night before bed while I get myself hard, what more do you want?

You should read this one if you haven't already. It's very lewd.

Who's rooting based on their genitalia?

*blocks your path*

it's a desease called kalokagathia

Nigga, show me one blurb that isn't pleb-tier trash. Publishers have to do weird things to make people buy books.

Murakami has a chance. He's been training for this. All he has to do is sprint for the podium and make it there before anyone else.

You wouldn't make a tonal mistake in translation because the characters have meaning. If it were a translation from an oral source, then the joke makes sense.

>awarding prizes to cis hetero (((white))) males

You're joking, but I still get shit at my uni for liking Japanese authors, because they're not diverse enough.

Very wholesome and nice thread

tell them you read war trauma literature like Shun Medoruma and that should shut them up

...

>not understanding chinese
get out

finally someone said it

I've actually read it!

It's much more about knowledge for knowledge's sake, much more about how amazing it is to know and learn stuff, it's not a romantic comedy at all, this summary does it a disservice. It's a wonderful book.

Sounds interesting. I might actually read this. I've been reading a lot of works lately on similar topics (like Kvanvig): virtue epistemology and the intrinsic value of understanding and knowledge. Sounds like it might fit in.

I love that topic.

Another good book around that theme is DeWitt's The Last Samurai, give it a go

Thanks, I'll check it out.

Check out this survey paper if you want a heap of books and papers on it: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/j.1747-9991.2011.00460.x/full

I want Pynch to pinch it this year but I wouldn't be upset if this qt won

That looks like a very useful paper, thank you user! Sci-hubbed

so pretty

face it, Sam Hyde will win this year

actually it's the plot of a video game

Pynchmaestro pls

Pynch gonna clinch... the Nobel.

He would have to crawl out of whatever hole he resides in first (your mom).

It will be that Hungarian fellow

Krashin'uruk-hai?

I wonder what vollmann will talk about in his acceptance speech?

How he s*cked d*ck just to know what it felt like

"Fuck you Nobel committee"

banksy is gonna win it

Say it with me now
MADAME PRIZE WINNER

GIVE IT
GIVE IT QUICKLY

It's like how kids get prizes at school for taking part

As far as google as able to tell me Vollman is a non-entity for the Swedish literati. Kinda sad to think that he actually believes he has a good chance.

>Kinda sad to think that he actually believes he has a good chance.

Where did he say that?

books.google.se/books?id=FPxk0_ZoyLsC&pg=PA193&lpg=PA193&dq="I actually believe I have a shot at winning the Nobel Prize"&source=bl&ots=mxhQt7Z7Wr&sig=bfcLyC2oa5y8THIvGxZ-7lLyihk&hl=sv&sa=X&redir_esc=y#v=onepage&q="I actually believe I have a shot at winning the Nobel Prize"&f=false

tho I guess "a good chance" was stretching it

I'd love it if he did win.....

I haven't liked what I've seen of his writing but I would still think he'd be a fun winner.

Luld so fucking hard

OGAWA

at least a yellow man from Japan originally

Well done OP you nailed it
Only the winner was actually male
And not Japanese

*japanese (british)

*british (japanese)

*Japanese-British

*British

Actually I'm pretty sure he's Kazakh, given the name

Maybe next year.
