Raskolnikov was a ghost the whole time.

Incredibly wrong, I can't believe you fucked up this hard. Raskolnikov was obviously just Napoleon-but-in-Russia, a sort of what-if scenario that ends with him killing himself. The point of the book was nationalistic propaganda to make it look like Napoleon couldn't handle the Russian spirit. Dostoevsky was a mouthpiece for the Tsar, nothing more. So disappointing that people are still discussing writers like him and Tolstoy when there are actual good authors just a bit further west.

The butler did it

It's just a half assed plot used as an excuse to present quarter assed and undercooked observations on society and religion and philosophy.

And of course if I call it boring then people will claim it's not meant to be enjoyed. It's a serious source of "profound psychological and philosophical insights". And if I point out how trivial and dumbed down and lazy these alleged insights are, people will say, "No, it's not serious, it's hilarious vaudeville!"
Ffs, it had a section where a lazy 10 year old tries unsuccessfully to praise socialism. How lazy can Dostoevsky get?

In addition, but not Dostoevsky's fault, you can't read books like this without realising that the pseudo intellectuals who praise it so much wouldn't give a single shit about it if it was released today. They would even dismiss it solely due to it being a serialisation.

>using lazy twice in a single sentence
just btfo yourself there, lad, mayhaps you should try that post again

Dmitry escapes to America to be a minor character in a few lesser-known Henry James novels. Ivan makes a deal with the devil and in exchange for his soul, The Grand Inquisitor becomes an instant classic. Alyosha comes to grips with his lack of a childhood (Zosima, Ivan, Hod as substitute father figure), and attempts to relive his childhood, where death and sadness don't exist. Unfortunately, a child dies and all this is shattered. Smerdyakov kills himself after murdering the father because he feels bad about Dmitry--there are subtle hints of homosexual feelings Smerdyakov had, but to Dmitry it was simply his hyper-hedonism that lead Smerdy on. Zosima turns out to be a murderer, and all the women end up having to whore.
