Pic related, should I read volume I-III or just get the much shorter abridged version? Will I lose anything of value

i doubt anyone can honestly awnser this...ask google

Read all 3, I have all 3 and the abridged version and got 2 friends to read the abridged versions. There are parts in the abridged where it says stuff like "As we saw in chapter 2 of book 2" etc.

Personally it's better to read all 3 it's a bit of a slog because of length but Solzhenitsyn is a good writer to it's not that bad.
Ignore tankies that say it's right wing propaganda, Stalin was a good kid and Solzhenitsyn is a fascist and the other shit they spout off about it.

Reading the 600 page version and listening to the audiobook atm

Toying with the idea of affiliating with the local commie's and their subsidiaries to larp as a secret police and confiscate everything i can get my hands on, all in the name of egalitarian ideals and whats best for the party of course.

Godspeed user, just be careful if they start saying it's not real Socialism or screeching "NOT AN ARGUMENT!" at you.

>screeching "NOT AN ARGUMENT!"
sounds more like the alt-right desu

Take that back, (((fiend))).

Doesn't matter who does it, it's the worst response you can give and shows how much of a prude you are.

Just read Harry Potter. It has about the same amount of historical accuracy

Solzhenitsyn is effectively a fascist though. He was always very far right and had /pol/ tier attitudes on Jews.

More importantly, his books are fiction but constantly presented autobiography. Even the dude's, who endured the camps with him, said the specific anecdotes were largely bullshit.

Don't bother with this bourgie propaganda

Communism is dead. Give it up.

True communism hasn't been tried except when the Soviets beat nazi Germany and the short timespan of them sending a man to space.

>when millions of people starve and are sent to prison but it's okay because you sent a dog to space

>True communism hasn't been tried
Anyone who says this ironically has no idea what the definition of communism
PRO-TIP: It is NOT when government does stuff

I think the user was referring to the fact that Marxism has never been implemented how ol M&E argued it in the manifesto; a wide, nationless class revolt in /industrial/ society. The Soviets, Chinese, VC etc, were all primarily agrarian countries, unindustrialized and unaffected by the modernizing for of capitalism that Marx said was necessary beforehand.

>PRO-TIP: It is NOT when government does stuff
Thats a pretty broad statement desu. Mind giving some citations?

Are we talking about America or the Soviet union?

>Essentially Fascist
Being against authoritarian regimes doesn't make you a fascist
>Very far right
In which of his writings is he far right? The one about Apricot Jam?
>/Pol/ views on Jews
Read 200 years together yourself user even rabbi's didn't think it was anti semitic.
>Fiction as autobiography
Stories, statistics and historical documents isn't fiction. Even if what you say is true the camps are well documented and it'd be like saying because Anne Frank's diary is fiction the Holocaust didn't happen.
>Dudes
Cite them then and give me a source. Or do you think the White Sea canal was built by hand and nobody died?
>Specific anecdotes
Name them, because aside from memory a prison barge was the only thing he got wrong and Holocaust survivors often made mistakes it doesn't mean the weren't in the camps.
user I recommend you actually read his work because you're making some r/Socialism and r/Communism arguments here.

I think the user was mocking how people say the USSR wasn't true communism. By definition, communism is an international common ownership of the means of production with no nations, classes or money. So far this has not happened, so yeah, communism hasn't been done
>Mind giving some citations?
Citations of what?

Maybe attempts at Communism would be better.

America sent three dogs to the moon

And they sent way more people to prison too!

>1-300 come on now.jpeg
Last time I checked the US didn't have Siberian Death camps.

Nah they just send them to Cuba instead.

Well they get the very best of Cuban medical treatment.

It has been tried but the road to 'true communism' is hell, the end goal of a stateless, moneyless society is theoretically impossible (and insane) in the 21st century; communism is 200 year old manufacturing era ideology hyperextended and allegorised far beyond its time. Marx was writing in a time when the working class were literally peasants; they had little food, health, housing, and other goods. Today the poorest people have iPhones, the internet, housing, universal healthcare (except for Am*rica), and a world of opportunities at their fingertips.

Its a shame that bat shit insane communists who idealise early 20th century soviet aesthetics still exist. They're the equivalent of Neo-Nazis and holocaust deniers. Almost every other ideology or theory has adapted to its time and errors of the past, but nope, not communism. The end goal is still the same outrageous utopia.

Are you retarded?

>Almost every other ideology or theory has adapted to its time and errors of the past, but nope, not communism
Source: My ass.

the point of today’s "communism" (rather Egalitarianism) is to get rid of poverty and prevent the extremely rich from having a negative impact on society and nature. What is and isn’t a negative impact on society/nature is debatable though.
