Shell Silverstein

Have you guys checked him out? I know he is a children's author, but I find that there is a lot of deeper meaning in his literature. He's intelligent witty and has a wicked sense of humor.

Another fellow of taste, I see.

Did you know he wrote 'A Boy Named Sue', and a sequel to it as well?

My favorite of his is 'Ickle Me, Pickle Me, Tickle Me too', what's yours?

I like the one about the old man and the child.

He wrote a bit of short fiction stuff for Playboy back in the day.

I memorized this one when I was 10 years old. I had an audiobook full of Silverstein himself reading his own poetry and adding in audio effects. The man was a ducking genius.

>Did you know he wrote 'A Boy Named Sue'
yes

this guy was a real nigga

a boy named sue is so good.

and has wicked set of chompers too

lmao he crouchin

What a Jew

Reminds me of Heinz Erhardt!

Hinter eines Baumes Rinde
wohnt die Made mit dem Kinde.

Sie ist Witwe, denn der Gatte,
den sie hatte, fiel vom Blatte.
Diente so auf diese Weise
einer Ameise als Speise.

Eines Morgens sprach die Made:
"Liebes Kind, ich sehe grade,
drĂ¼ben gibt es frischen Kohl,
den ich hol. So leb denn wohl!

Halt, noch eins! Denk, was geschah,
geh nicht aus, denk an Papa!"

Also sprach sie und entwich. -
Made junior aber schlich hinterdrein;
doch das war schlecht!
Denn schon kam ein bunter Specht
und verschlang die kleine fade
Made ohne Gnade. Schade!

Hinter eines Baumes Rinde
ruft die Made nach dem Kinde ....

I loved his books.
I lost my copy of Falling Up from moving so much, I miss it...

I was into his stuff as a small, small child but have forgotten most of it, now. I owned Where The Sidewalk Ends.

...

Has a William Blake quality to it

Hector the Collector was always my favorite.

I read from Where the Sidewalk Ends to my son almost every night. Not looking forward to the day he grows out of it.

Jack Prelutsky was better

Don't worry friend, he'll revisit it one day when he's grown older, and he'll appreciate so much that you've read it with him!

you know those 3x3 threads where people put up work of dudes that they've read twenty pages of two hours ago and cite them as life changing? Well Silverstein and Dr. Seuss are literally on mine.

Thank you. You're a good guy.

this website really isn't that creative anymore, is it?

My folks read Shel Silverstein to me when I was a kid, and someday I'll definitely read him to my kids. If you raise him right he'll do the same. Sounds like you are.

>tfw fantasizing about all the books I want to read with my future kids
It's the coziest feel in the world innit.

He did a great reading of his books. The audio's on spotify and he's a good reader.

When he reads, he's both
>hilarious
and
>a master at creating vibes for different poems, from loving and tender, to insane and crazy, to jolly uncle Shel.

You owe it to yourself to hear it if you like his work.

Seconding this. Look for the "Light on in the attic album" though, some of his country stuff is probably NOT what you're looking for.

What a fucking wizard this man was.

>dies at only 68 of a heart attack

Shel... had a hard life

Good taste.

>((Silverstein))
I don't read degenerate kike trash and would never let my children read any such thing, the fact that he is a chldren's author disgusts me.

In english, you monkey.
