Why do Asians eat so much rice?

Why dont' the french eat corn?
I try to look up french corn dishes and there aren't any. :(

wide range of uses, heavily produced in great plains, hearty and cheap, staple of national and regional cuisine. basically same answer to

It’s literally over half our produce
It’s like asking Or like asking why French people huff farts

1 word
M*nsanto

It's no worse than wheat

The french feed corn to chickens, then eat the much tastier chicken.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bresse_chicken

Thats pretty much what we do in America. But we feed it to pigs and cows. But during the late summer we pick bicolor corn and eat it right off the cob like animals. it's good, lighly blanched with salt and butter. some like to add chili powders or hard grated cheese to it.

>rice is a purely asian phenomenon

well it's where it started and 87% of the worlds stock comes from there...sooo....

yeah but only americans eat corn often

It’s called maize

Well the native Americans weren't as well traveled as western civilizations so they didn't trade it. Nobody knew they existed..

I have no idea why i said western when I meant eastern.

What makes you an expert?

He's not really wrong. When I try to find corn/maize recipes it's usually from the American continent.

Gib link plz

"on est pas des poules" ... we are not chicken.

Got bored and looked up why china has so much corn, they using it for livestock feed hah. theplate.nationalgeographic.com/2015/05/18/why-corn-not-rice-is-king-in-china/

Which is worse for you, corn or soy?

HFCS

they are livestock

...

Serious answer incoming.
When it was first being exported by European explorers, maize got a pretty bad reputation in a lot of places because nobody knew how to prepare it. The breeds of corn available at the time needed to be soaked in an alkaline solution and hulled (called nixtamalization) in order for the nutritional value to be more accessible by human digestion.
So when corn first stared getting exported in large quantities, there were lots of outbreaks of pellagra and other nutritional deficiency diseases.

Because they are cattle feeding for fattening and slaughter.

Mexicans eat more corn than americans.

it's best to be drunk on corn whiskey when awaiting the slaughter.

That's actually where most of the US corn goes as well.

it is cheap because it is subsidized

Besides the obvious answer that corn doesn't grow great in Europa?

Why do Europeans eat so much curry and kebab?

Why are Americans getting so defensive.
corn is good.

why is this the only kind of banter americans can muster up? pretty pathetic honestly

Asians eat a shitload of corn.

...

No they don't.
They use it for feed and alcohol.

Yeah, yours was so much better

We don't eat nearly any of the corn we produce, we use it for drugs, sugar, alcohol, starch, animal feed, glue, and oil.

Because americans grow a lot of corn.

But they do, at least the SEA ones.

Government subsidies mean it's grown in vast quantities, then shoved into everything.

Also, the soil in america is so piss-poor after they let it all blow the fuck away in the dust bowl so nothing else will grow.

You can't grow corn with """""piss poor soil"""

It obviously is, because half of Veeky Forums thinks having a rice cooker is retarded when every Asian family owns one

>every Asian family has one
Weeaboo generalization.
Fuck off back to one of your containment boards you nip loving prick.

I am Asian, you stupid fuck. Why does the idea of something that is part of our every day life trigger you so much?

because the gubnurment gives subsidies to corn farmers so it's abundant and cheap.

>eating sweat
eeeewwwwwww

I own two and I'm only a half Asian family.

Corn originates and thrives in our climate. People have been eating mostly corn in America for thousands of years

The real answer, if this isn't a bait thread: corn is heavily subsidized by the American government, so it's always abundant and dirt-cheap to boot.

not anymore. so much corn goes to fuel production that any corn-based food product is now way more expensive than before

>box of Corn flakes, the most basic cereal you can get
>$4-5

Corporate welfare subsidies to big agri/chemical. It can keep fat, dumb and happy what the overlords view as livestock in a pen (the middle and lower classes). It's convenient that it's HFCS petroleum derived extracts can be added to literal pig food (aka fast food) to make it taste better.

Having said that, I grow sweet corn in my garden because an ear immediately picked and steamed or roasted touches oden.

We grow a lot, duh

>what the overlords view as livestock in a pen
I mean, they practically ARE livestock in a pen. People are like fucking cattle these days. It's even worse in Europe where the cattle are discouraged from buying cars (through high taxes) so they get herded onto public transportation. It's sickening. There are just too many people.

eh no?
in Ger there are entire agrar companys doing Corn and only corn, for meme enegery Production
Corn is like 1/4 of Livestock diet here

only cause gubment subsidies

The US is the only place in the world that has the climate, soil, water, and topography to produce corn in the amounts we do

The Mayans called it "Maize"

>/pol/tard
>europoor who wishes they had food
pick one or both nobody cares either way

Yeah and look where they are now.

Pretty sure they're still around in the same general area.

t. did a school project on the Mayans back in 4th grade

you equate the name of corn to the diminishing of a people? How much more internet time do your parents still allow you tonight? I'll come back after

It is super important to our economy which is why it is so heavily subsidized.

We put it in everything to compensate the industry

God damed fucking socialism I hate it so fucking much

Tremendous subsidies keep the price cheap

because there's nothing like roasted corn covered with butter and fresh, black pepper

>It’s literally over half our produce

Doesn’t know the difference between No. 2 Dent Corn and Sweet Corn... KEK.

Anybody else think corn doesn't suck because it tastes bad, but because it goes with nothing? Like you ask anyone their favourite thing to do with corn and it's always "hurr on the cob", the best it gets is "with butter" or some other totally tertiary addition. It doesn't go well in sauces, salads, with roasts, in ratatouille, pastries, pizza, croquettes, it just doesn't belong anywhere other than on its own. And that's why I hate it. Anyone else feel this way?

There's a documentary about the corn industry on Netflix, it goes into detail about how corn farmers are actually growing corn at a loss but the government benifits given to the farmers make it profitable for them.

You can make salsa with corn, bean salads with corn, and I think it's pretty popular in Japan to put corn on pizza.

Pretty limiting worldview when all you can do is think about eating. How much do you weigh?

I love corn on the cob but I always end up eating 2 sticks of butter every time I have it.

Because a large sector of their agricultural industry would collapse if they didn't.

Damn, America, do you always have to be number one?

I'm not american but I can certainly understand why. Corn is the fucken shit, I can eat corn on the cob every single day and not be bored of it

Anyone her like hominy, or am I the only whyte boi that likes it?

Corn isn't that digestible anyway, so it's rather healthy.

>my family enjoys sweet corn
there are some mennonites in my area that grow the absolute best sweet corn. i buy a 50lb bag every year from them. They are the friendliest people around and have amazing work ethic.

yes, bitch

boi i love hominy. i will eat it straight from the can. i like to mix it with pearled cauliflower and taco seasoning for meatless tacos, or in taco soup, or posole (idk if it's in traditional posole but it's legit amazing)

>spergs out about a generalization
>makes a generalization
Good going buddy.

That shit good poppy

your image is bad and should be deleted

Corn is fucking delicious. Obviously, one shouldn't be refining corn and pouring it over your foods and drinks as a source of sugar but corn on the cob is tasty and easy to make.

The Whole Foods I go to (in San Francisco) doesn't carry corn, that should tell you everything you need to know about the liberal anti-corn agenda.

Japan fag here. They use corn and cabbage as a cheap filler for a lot of meals here, mostly salads, soup and stews.

beacuse most amerisharts are complete idiots.

Theres hundreds of recipes for corn from breads to soups.

We didn't intend to eat that much, it just gets shoved into our processed foods

They don't, unless you count high-fructose corn syrup. The only time I really see Americans clinging to their corn is in the Midwest. The reason is probably because it is super cheap and easy to get in the US and the Midwest is known for poverty.

Seconded. Actually, I think corn is the lesser of two evils.

name one(1)

It's cheaper than sugar, and Americans gotta have their simple carbs.

My step-father helped write and compose this song. Legit; like no joke haha!

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_maize_dishes

your retarded if you cant cook rice in a casserole

Wow you people are retarded. Corn is subsidized so that if shit hits the fan we won't all starve as badly as we would otherwise. As a result we have tons of excess corn and we export most of it (we destroyed Mexico's economy by flooding their market with our cheaper oroduce, thank the Clinton's/nafta for that.) Since we have so much it becomes cheaper than alot of other ingredients (high fructose corn syrup)

>Wow you people are retarded
you people?

They manage it in america after half their soil blew away, and their soil is piss-poor compared to the rich black dirt around here.

Hell, in these parts, corn is mostly grown to be fed to livestock as silage.
