Coworker is bored by videogames, TV, film and wants to try reading

>coworker is bored by videogames, TV, film and wants to try reading
>give him The Martian, Stoner and The Great Gatsby in that order for small steps
>Two weeks pass
>Find my books abandoned at work, clearly unread
>Coworker didn't even try to read
Anyone else know this feel? Why are some people incapable of reading? How do we fix this illiteracy?

holy fuck normies, amirite? xD
they probably watch rick and marin and have degenerate sex under influence of dude weed lmao
we're simply better

considering OP did nothing but give his friend normie-tier books, I doubt this is an /r9k/ thread

Hey fuck you The Great Gatsby is greay

He's clearly one of those retards. If he had any kind of charm, intelligence, wit, or general charisma, his friend would've made an actual effort instead of publically shitting in his frogposting piece of shit face. But clearly OP is too socially unaware to realize the coworking faggot wasn't looking for his worthless literature recommendations

This bothers me mostly because it is rude, not because he is a pleb.

It is great but still mainstream.

>If he had any kind of charm, intelligence, wit, or general charisma
*tips fedora*

OP did say he was trying to ease his friend in

lol thats totally untrue
you can't forcefully motivate someone to do something recreational, unless they're literally trying to fuck you

I taught at an inner-city school
the first thing, we would sit at our desks and they would watch me read
called Sustained Silent Reading or something
because they had never seen anyone read for pleasure
I always read Dr. Dolittle
I tried to make my eyes saucer-like behind the pages
then we would go to the library and they would self-select what they would read

>person is bored
>let's give them random trash without even finding out why he was bored and why he wanted to read
The most unrealistic part about this bait is OP talking to people.

How did forcefulness get into this? It's enough to spark up interest, which is pretty easy face to face and if the person doesn't have a disability that makes reading extremely hard to them. (In which case they wouldn't be able to do their job)

those books for skinny fags, give the nigga some epic conan shit to read.

This is a bad example.
To be fair you have to have a high iq to understand Rick and marin

I like how you assume I threw random books at them. They are interested in escaping so I gave them a book where a character is escaping a place, a book where a character is escaping a person and a book where a character is escaping themselves. But Veeky Forums isn't my blog and you really didn't need to know this context.

That’s kind of interesting actually. What books would they pick?

Something to scribble in.
That’s why I’d read the original edition of Dr. Dolittle, which is extremely racist lol

>be me
>give books to friends
>they read them
Maybe stop talking to the lower classes?

>Talking to "troubled" normie girl who is paying thousands for humanities classes
>Says she always wanted to write a sci-fi novel and likes horror movies
>Actually asks me for reccomendations
>Give her Lovercraft short story collection and Liggotti, say Colour Out of Space and Flowers of the Abyss are good because that's what started me
>Two months pass
>She hasn't read any of it
>Two years later bitch still has my books
What more could I do fucking normies

>be me in high school
>on a bus with a bunch of other students
>going to the state capital for an academic competition
>pull out lovecraft collection, reading color out of space
>qt3.14 comes over
>"hey user whatcha reading"
>show her the book, half explain to her what the story's about
>"hey that sounds like the story i wrote for the competition i'm going to"
>lend her the book
>she lends me a copy of her short story
>horror-romance about mysterious girl in spooky evil forest who has to keep the forest under control
>it's alright
>she comes back after finishing Color
>"hey that was pretty good, thanks for letting me borrow it"
>no more interactions with her

>he won't ask for his books back
Pathetic.

>getting upset that someone doesn’t read the books YOU chose in the timeslot You desire
ffs chill

>Lives 5 hours away

Some people are brainlets.

I had a dude at work introduce me to The Forever War, one of my favorite books. He also leant me Thus Spoke Zarathustra but I was too much of a brainlet to appreciate it at the time.

I like reading, I think of it as something worthwhile.

I know alot of people who have all the time of day, but instead of reading, working out or doing something with themselves they seem to me to just be in thier rooms, watch tv and play vidya.

I'm not being elitist, but I've met alot of these types and I'm angry when I see them, I hardly have enough time to do these things because of work.

>love Camus
>gf also loves Camus
>look for a copy of his notebooks translated to our language for 1,5 years
>lend it to gf after I read it
>she breaks up before giving it back
>"user come meet me I'll give you the book"
>fuck you I don't wanna meet give it to my homie Greg he'll bring it to me
>ex gives book to Greg
>Greg calls
>"What do I do with it it user?"
>I'm drunk
>burn it or some shit idc
>Greg takes it home
>actually burns the book
>haven't found another copy since then

It's been 2 years. Fuck you Greg, you melodramatic fuck

why the fuck do you care what other people do with their time? you sound like a needy beta; I wouldn't read anything you gave me either.

>How did forcefulness get into this?
He already said his friend is an unmotivated piece of shit that doesn't want to do anything. Obviously him asking for books was just another unmotivated desire that wouldn't be fulfilled.
No matter how charming or whatever you claim OP should have been, that guy would not have read the books unless somebody forced him to

>tell friend to do something
>friend complies
>complain because friend did what you told him to do
i don't get it

no it sucks dick

what are you like 15?

I tried to recommend a book once to a person I consider pretty intelligent and all I got was pretty much-
>Ew...Looks old.

fuck you, greg is solid.

At least you didn't got an "Ew... it's written by a white male".
