Lives in a First world country with countless resourceful libraries

>lives in a First world country with countless resourceful libraries
>still buys/hoards books

Why?

I will tell you why, without making a joke or being ironic. I hoard books because I expect the civic and electrical infrastructure of my nation to be destroyed within my lifetime. Same reason I do /k/ and /diy/ and /ham/ shit, and keep manuals on engines, my vehicle in particular, homesteading, construction, civics, philosophy, et cetera.

99% of the books I own are not available in any public library I have ever personally browsed. Not everyone lives in a major city with millions of people.

This is another reason. Libraries are fine if you want shit books about knitting or how to care for a dog or whatever commercial garbage was printed recently.

Expanding on this, a book will last centuries. Even a paperback. It can fall apart and lose its binding but the ink will still be on the pages, which are numbered. A piece of shit e-reader will last 5 or 10 years at most. Ask me how my Sansa Clip mp3 player from 2006 is doing.

If only you knew how few books actually get checked out of public libraries.

I'm looking for more academic books. I found out you can borrow books from the university without studying there so problem solved I guess.

>lives in a country with an access to the internet
>still uses libraries

Why?

The used-bookstore is just 20 extra when I'm going home, the library which I'm interested is a bit farther away. (However, I'm using both, but I still prefer only adding a 20 minute extra excursion to my trip home.)

>have to bring them back
>ugly tags
>cheap editions
>unsanitary
>tiny catalogue full of john green tier type shit
>

Books kick ass, they are great to own, the copies at the library can turn to dogshit pretty fast from abuse. They are also under the control of government which can censor books whenever they choose.

My private collection is mine alone, I can peruse it at will, loan out volumes at my leisure, and anyone who wants to take them by force will be met with like force.

>cringy adolescent phrasing
>They are also under the control of government which can censor books whenever they choose.

back to or whatever reddit shithole you crawled out of, brainlet

I live in a rural area and the closest library is basically made up of Dan Brown books and Christian fiction.

Too many homeless looking at porn on the computers. I don’t like going in there. They smell, look gross and I fear for my rectal integrity amongst the criminally insane.

Where the fuck do you think you are, cunt?

Turns out I was right. Please, refrain from posting here, Veeky Forums is not a place for intellectual midgets, and as a /pol/ tard I'm sure you will see the harm you are doing from an immigrational perspective.

I'm not /pol/ you have failed miserably. I hate that board
Unchecked immigration is ridiculously bad for social cohesion btw

My local library is kinda shit. Rarely does it have books that I want to read.

You don't live in a first world country unless everyone you know has a printing press in their own homes

If we include inkjet and laser printers as presses, I agree

That's because america is really a 3rd world country

no I mean a manual style press with russian work slave

I'd love to see your collection.

I don't actually read books, I just display them prominently in my apartment so girls think I have an intellectual and sensitive side (I don't).

I think that that's pretty god damn sad, that they don't recognise their own country as a third world, third rate, third class slum.

>use a fake name library card with fake address
>Never go to the same location twice in a year
>Rip off all the tags and scribble the insides
>Keep the ones I like
>Sell the ones I don't

You'll never stop me

I don't think anyone gives a shit honestly

My Sony walkman works perfectly fine, though obviously I don't use it anymore. Just take good care of your electronics and they'll last.

I have a microwave that is over 10 years old and still works. I thought the lifespan of these things was 5.

Moved it across... 5 apts/houses now at least.

How would we post pics of our stacks on Veeky Forums otherwise?

I spoil the endings on the title page

sorry, your comment won't get any upboats or fake outrage
this isn't reddit or the youtube comment section

(You)s are all I need baby

I get mine cheaply from dead peoples private libraries that their fag kids give away, all things you wouldn't find in a shitty public library.

lmao what

>Lives in a 1st world nation

>Still buys books instead of getting them from libraries
>Still buys movies instead of renting/pirating them or watching them on Netflix
>Still orders delivery sometimes instead of cooking from scratch
>Still buys shoes instead of killing animals and lashing their flesh to our feet
>Still buys and uses toilet paper instead of just using our hand and running it under water afterwards
>Still shits in toilets that takes our waste away instead of using doing it in the backyard
>Still works to earn pieces of metal and paper to use in exchange of goods that we personally own and can use at any time or for services available to us in exchange for profit

When you contribute to society, you get rewarded with money. With your money, you can support businesses in exchange for goods and/or services. Some people like to purchase books that are then their personal property rather than BORROWING someone else's property for a limited time. So now, OP, I think I have a query for you...

>lives in a First world country with countless resources and great wealth
>still questions capitalism

Why?

Also, I'm the author of several books and therefore just don't particularly like you very much.

I do.

I love libraries and use my local one often. It sucks but there is interlibrary loan so I always use that to get the things I want. Also I get to see people I know from my tiny New England hometown and seem smart to them when they find out I read Dostoevsky and Augustine.

Any book you can find in a library today is complete shit, as are most books you can buy or access online. You have to go to used book stores to find the good stuff.

I'm sure most libraries carry at least some portion of the western canon
Or are you saying all those are complete shit?

I don't live in a first world country, check your privilege shitlord

>I'm sure most libraries carry at least some portion of the western canon
Depends on a lot of factors.

It's a drug that is less harmful and that has longer lasting benefits than most of the other drugs I choose not to do anymore

Because I might not want to drive to the library every time I want to look at it again.

>Because I might not want to drive to the library every time I want to look at it again.
>I want to look at it again.
>look

We're not talking about comic books you fucking retard

>He doesn't compare arguments in his non-fiction.
>He doesn't reread the original passage when it's referenced in fiction for context.

Why even read?

nigga the device used to read a digital file is literally irrelevant, you can put it on the internet and host in a dozen different countries if you like. a decent ereader can last over 30 years, depending on frequency of use. one made to some industrial standards could last centuries.

I used to do this with my best friend but now I feel so guilty, it was fun though.
