SAD

>Read Paradise Lost
>Blown away, rapturous aesthetic and meaning. Feel dopamine kicks firing from every passage in awe
>"Oh user, just wait until Dante, he's literally the best poet ever"
>Do all the pre-reading, Vita Nuevo, theological writing, Florentine politics
>Start Inferno
>Terse, bland verse (I have three translations, Italian version and hundreds of annotations)
>Sloppy insertion of his contemporary figures and greek myth
>Comes across as interesting fan-fiction, and he wrote it in "Italian" instead of Latin so it was probably the equivalent of a marvel movie for the masses
I guess Anglos win again huh.

I feel like this bait was crafted with me in mind
>Vita Nuevo
This gave it away

>reads translations
>complains about aesthetics
Yeah, my dude, monolingual subhumans ""win"" again.

He said he read the Italian version you illiterate

>Learning Italian for the literature
Save that for the stand up kid

Post Italian version or else you're the bitter idiot who posted the same shit thread the other day expressly saying you didn't have that:)

Milton is the better English poet, who knew?

dante is overrated, but not bad

He said he owns the Italian version. I own the Italian as well, doesn't mean I can fucking read it.

>Inferno
There's your problem. Wait until you get the Purgatorio.

Shakespeare is better than both
and yet anglos on this board don't read him

That's because of this board is full of stupid teenagers.

Dante's Inferno does sound waaay doper than Shakespeare. Also doesn't look lame as shit on my shelf

Hölderlin is better than Shakespeare, yet almost nobody here will learn German, why?

Because we already know english faggot

>comparing plays to poetry
nigga just cause he rhymes sometimes doesn't make hamlet a fucking epic poem
read Shakespeare's sonnet and discover he sucked ass compared to Milton
read samson agonistes and realize Milton btfo shakespeare even as a playwright

>What is blank verse
Why don't you idiots read Shakespeare first before disregarding it as a play

Purgatorio is the worst of the three imo. The ending is sublime tho.
Paradiso>Inferno>Purgatorio

now I know you're trolling.
poor form m8

Nope guess what oranges are better the apples and Shakespeare is better than any and every epic poet

I wish I didn't agree with this, but I'm reading it right now and I kind of do. Only one translation, though, so I can blame that.

PL and DC both had gorgeous illustrations in the versions I read
Not sure if I would have read them if the books hadn’t been so great—probably not
But I read them together and it was a high point of my life

Dante posting has never been worse.

wanted to add about reading Dante:
might help if you’re a sinner...
I always held open the possibility of suicide
studied the relevant episode in Dante
if Dante were a lawyer, he’d never lose a case

If anything PL is marvel-tier fanfic I mean I enjoyed it but cmon its nowhere near Dante you cant bei serious (I also read Dante in translation)

i honestly almost believe this meme bait because ANY translation will never be as the divina commedia as it is, it's just a waste of time
