Want to write

>want to write
>haven’t read a full novel in a year
How fucked am I?

your ability to write doesn't depend on your ability to read

It does

WEll depends on. Do you write something?

You'll end up doing something someone has already done. It doesn't mean it'll be bad though. If your goal is to progress the art of writing you'll fail. If it's to just have fun and be creative you're fine.

If you read say a hundred classics you are going to be a much better writer than if you haven't.

>read too much of one author
>end up parroting their writing style

How many books have you read in your life?

>wants to write
>shitposts here instead
Sperg-tastic thread, user.

we are all like this.

i have screwed up my carer so badly that flipping burgers or becoming a writer are my only choices now. but look at me shitposting away my waking time, when i could be writing something worth publishing to put food on my table.

hunger will eventually force me, won't it?

happy halloween, cunts.

>How fucked am I?
almost as much as me. but not quite.
hang in there. this reader's block will go away. i hope.

>hunger will eventually force me, won't it?
nope

oh god.

any other option?
what makes the writers actually start hammering away?

found the self proclaimed /smartbutlazy/ genius

>self proclaimed
the worst

Only you can make yourself write.

oh, the horror...

i'd rather an hero.

or halloween 2017 will be the day 1 of my writing career start anew.

i'll keep you posted.

The best method I've found is putting myself in a distraction-free environment with my notes and just staying there until I've written at least a page and a half. No phone, no computer, completely out of the house. At least that works for me. Good luck.

Check out Ugo Foscolo. He basically studied his way into patriciandom and became one of the best Italian poets of all times.

>distraction-free environment
ok
>No phone,
ok
>no computer,
ok

>completely out of the house
maybe that's the thing.
i need to get my ass out of my comfort zone.

>Good luck.
thanks a ton, sir / ma'am, especially for the advice to get out of the house.

It actually does.
I'm so fucking tired of this meme.

You want to CREATE without EXPERIENCING. It's a silly endeavor.

>helping my friend write a book
>he's read less than ten books in his entire life
>coaching him through it
>he's gone from errors that make his writing incomprehensible in nearly every sentence to minor grammatical errors in nearly every sentence
>thinks writing how you talk is a good idea
>wants to write and teach people how to write in the future
>suggested he try reading more to avoid these errors so I don't have to fix literally every sentence
>"I don't have the time."
