I know very little about Gnosticism. I think the premise is that our souls were originally one with the divine entiity that were broken off into reality. So it'd be a bit of both really

I think the spiritual interpretation of the "politics" is the most correct, not sure if the gnostic perspective is the best though

I think for some people it is the best path but not universal, I wouldnt want to be dissolved into an external entity no matter how great and that is what gnosticism looks like to me

I don't think it's a homogenous enough movement to say much about it's interpretation. I think the word 'Gnosticism' was basically a shorthand for heretic among mainstream Christians.
